Maybe this could be considered an extension of that "I love you guys" thread (or whatever the title was exactly).
Even with most of us being INTPs, and most of us liking each other, sometimes you just "click" better with some people than others. So who are your favorite forum members?
Mine are joft and biff_loman.
From my very first post (http://www.intpcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1786), joft and I seemed to have a lot in common (quite a number of times, one of us have posted to a thread, only for the other to appear sometime later just to basically say "I totally agree with [garak or joft]"). He's also in the irc channel (chat room) often, like me, so I know him better than I might otherwise. In general I find myself really relating with him, and I admire his openness and honesty about his thoughts.
biff_loman could be my older brother or something. I find him to be insightful and wise; wiser than you might think a 25(?) year old would be. He's also a goofy bastard who casually talks about his group sex escapades and his dysfunctional marriage. A very interesting guy.
And come to think of it, biff's in the irc channel quite a bit too. Maybe the lesson is: everyone should be in the irc channel and we will all be one big happy family!
Ahaha. It is late at night and just a little bit ago I was F'ing it up (feeling it up, not fucking it up, wait a second, that sounds perverse.. ok, "emotioning" it up), so there's your explanation for this thread I guess. But from a rational standpoint, I think it is good exercise to get in touch with your inner F. So yeah, this thread is totally rational. Post away.

ok I am way too new to have much too add much, Div has been very tolerate of my rageing stupidity regarding everything on this site and with tech stuff in general. I do dig joft's posts and a few others, but I have already rattled on about that, atthe time!
That is funny about biff_loman I thought he was in his 40s! Damn certainly wise beyond his years! (I must not be getting as much out of my group sex, I need to take the coarse again)
Someone gave me a link once but I didn't get far with it, to the chatroom, were is it again, and how do ya log-in. I seem to have to rare version of down syndrome for all things related to computers this week.

There are a lot of people who I admire for their dispositions or insights or something like that. I hate picking favorites and I can't stand the thought of disappointing anyone (as though anyone would care enough about what I thought about them, ha), so here's just some of the names that come to mind.
garak and biff_loman, guys i know pretty well from irc and stuff
warrior413, seratonin, claverhouse, i enjoy the attitude that i pick up from their posts.
songbird34, clara, apethedog, some of the thoughtful things you've said have encouraged me (i'm not accusing anyone of being F now :p )

This would have been so much easier to do when I first signed up as the list is so long by now. Originally, I would say I immediately got on with flan2dave and Vagabond. I would read a thread thinking of something to say and usually one of those two would have already posted the exact sentence I had in mind. It used to freak me out.
spirilis, SensEye, int, Johnny, jimkopelli and Spartan26 have always been favorites, but by no means is this a complete list.
There are alot of people that I miss who don't post so much anymore or are gone, like antireconciler, but that includes Leakis (sp?), slyder, strephonade; shaytana doesn't say so much anymore :( and where are you Jez anyway?
What would we do without Claverhouse? And thanks to Utopmk for keeping things light.

I know almost nobody here so this is really more the ones I've noticed so far.
- Joft seems like a person who really takes his thoughts seriously, and thinks about everything a lot. He talks about his ideas with a kind of clarity that I really admire.
- Clara is a really, really nice and welcoming person, I almost feel like I'm in her debt because she's so nice to me.
- Miss Antropic has the cutest avatar. I don't know. I keep thinking she's a really nice person but maybe that's because I keep associating her with the bunny. I'm gonna have to get over the bunny first before I can make an accurate estimation of her personality.
- Edmond Zedo is the first person I noticed when I came here because he's so incredibly in your face. I like people who have decided for themselves who they are, and don't compromise on that.

A few that spring to mind at the moment:
Creative Chaos - Fresh and original ideas on things
Miss Anthropic - Interesting themes and quite a bit in common with
Booyalab - Rational and sensible and makes me laugh
Claverhouse - don't always agree but interesting and well informed
Cjs55 - Interesting and well reasoned arguments

I like everybody :) regardless of whether on not they like me. Those I may not agree with as much as others can provoke interesting questions or points of view I had not considered -
"It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it" - Aristotle
I hold no bad feelings towards anyone on this forum, not even the odd troll who I simply find interesting for a slightly different reason than most others.
The only person I do not like so much on this forum is me :(.......as I rarely express or explain myself properly, I can never decide what side of the debate I sit on and often resort to rather pointless and vague comments (partially out of laziness).
"May put off writing until they read everything available on the topic" - Taken from http://www.murraystate.edu/secsv/fye/INTP.htm

Hah, who says I have an A list. The word you wanted there was 'outsider'.
Edit : I might be prepared to accept Diplomat where the dictionary says "One who uses skill and tact in dealing with others" ;)
-Geoff
I was trying to help a Chinese ESL student understand the word tact, I had her look up the words tact and diplomacy up in the English/Chinese dictionary. She looked very confused and then wrote on a piece of paper "not honest" and said, "This is what diplomacy means in Chinese." She still doesn't understand why I found that sooooo funny.
It would be easier, but not very diplomatic (and that is to use the word in its English definition) to list the few I don't feel warm and fuzzy about.....I, I uh, I love most of you....

creativechaos - okay you are too nice, i would even like you more though if i got to see you angry, nothing is more adorable than an angry F
mgbrash - you're smart
clara - you're nice
miss anthropic - ditto ditto
kuranes (like your posts)
waxwing (like your poetry)
best thing about the above posters is that they tend not to be involved in pathetic bouts of forum small-talk, which means that they have something better to do - therefore respect (well cc has a small-talk problem but she is F and the emo's are too cute so she is excused)

Besides the fact that pretty much everyone falls into my "I like" catagory due to the intuitive nature (plus no one really has flamed me so far...)
When I first came to this site, filecabinet, Avengardh, Utopmk, int, Claverhouse, Birdeye, INTrPosr and especially Melody were very interesting to read from.
The list has expanded to a point where I think I'd waste too much time to write, besides all the obvious ones were aforementioned throughout the thread, so:
Thank you Warrior413, cuspuser, Miss Anthropic, Clara, your_prostate, jimkopelli, indiejade, Garyincinci, Xenophon, Geoff, mgbradsh, ZeroAngel, ApeTheDog and everyone else who responded to my posts(without apathy/animosity)

Clara - Has gone out of her way to help me again and again. I owe her a lot.
Pierce - Has also provided me with a lot of insight and knowledge behind the scenes.
Edmond Zedo - He amuses me! Also keeps me grounded (in fear, that is!)
FileCabinet - Hard work should not go unnoticed or appreciated.
Boneca - Not sure why I like a pessimistic attitude, but its a useful one to have.
CC - Lightens me up and adds some joy into the forums, she is also the taskmaster of logic (oddly enough!)
Swift - Him and I seem to have a lot in common when it comes to our attitudes and views on things. I could probably meet him half-way on just about anything.
Indiejade - Seems to be a really balanced person, I enjoy reading her poetry and posts which are not always too positive or too negative, but almost always very interesting.
Songbird34 - I cannot believe she is an INTJ! No wait, I actually can. INTJs are super-objective and sometimes a bit egotistical, but this is not your stereotypical INTJ. She calls it as she sees it without letting her ego get in the way.
Johnny - Always posts very knowledgable and insightful posts, his knowledge of jungian psychology has yet to be matched.
Other cool members: Eileen the INFJ, Sackanacka, Sheepdog, Purple13, Mgbradsh, Joft, Jimkopelli, your_prostate, MacGuffin, Dman, Waxwing and Biff_Loman ...

I don't think it so. Even if the so called Modern World is going wild and somewhat (self-)destructively I do not THINK that speaking F U Kingly is unnecessery for an INTP. - - - nobody knows you when you are down and out - -
Nobody likes to belong to the backroom boys. I did'nt want to introduce me to You as a back number. I am not sure, but perhaps I got a back seat in life, and back seat driving is to tell to the the very driver what to do.
"I see myself" (says Fay Weldon) "as someone who drops tiny crumbs of nourishment, in the form of comment and conversation, into the black enormous maw of the world's discontent. See me as Sisyphus, but having a good time".
If you ever saw the ugly man behind the trembling trees, you wonder if the clouds may spread, and stagger in a proper order of rows, in a manner, that each cloud has its own syncopated position.
That’s the defiling of dream-balls and condensing of luck, and all the little precious clouds are innocent and pale against the blue Arizona azure, and a skinned poppy-case shows you the content, - black pearls, that is your rapture, your dream, you wonder if the black birds may leave the bushes
and fill the sky with cry and shadow.
Your smile - may say me things I wonder to know, sympathy is joining you and stays with you, you never could explain that nothing has been heard, you never could explain what the explorers took with to us – nothing has been founded but spotless screen, and you listen for a noiseless scream.
And utterly excited you can’t deny to the furnisher of luck, the crying enterprise in flying in the open air. And now they call for you, and you must stay there in the light, straight in appearance, nobody stands behind you, nobody left of you, and to the right is standing the majestic swan, straight in appearance with his so long slender curving neck. In this condition you have to answer. That is the magic trial.
Opening your mind you answer. My EGO is a thorn I got for life - and be alive I ought to wake in my EGO - and not to be asleep in it, and the utterst way to follow my task is not to allow to nobody to hurt this ego-own demon – and out of bounds are devils, snakes, horrors and all those dark grooves of obscurity and dirt.
And youth is yours. All these men crowded, people talking, all those clothes a spank of fate, a glance of Bonnie, a glimpse of highest heed, focus of attention, in the twinkling of an eye you get what you want, - a second EGO hints your internal demon under the canopy, the “chuppa”.
We like to think, to see those clearly lines, so straight, so exactly scratched, - lines of life.

This is my position on the issue.
I think that people who post on here should agree to abide by the rules that the forum sets. If they're not prepared to do that, and they repeatedly flout the rules and insult others, they should be banned.
However they should be warned first, and given the opportunity to moderate their own posts. If after repeated warnings they still won't comply, they should be banned.

The new rules appeared after the EJ incident. I don't remember what kind of rules we had back then, but I imagine the word "loose" would be close....
What you described there is pretty much what the rules say. And I don't think there's a reason to even discuss this. If someone has a problem with the rules or certain members, PMs are probably the best way to deal with that. Meant to be taken as a general suggestion not directed to anyone in particular...

Not in a million years. I would have removed him the instant he used certain words to certain members. But without the damaging chat that ensued.
However, apart from that incident, I never found him offensive particularly, and wouldn't have cared if he was moderated or not. However there are rigorously-drawn lines. Even here.

In terms of the rules that can be framed, do you think that difficulty is created by the fact that some people's offence threshold is much lower than others? How would you suggest that this can be catered for?
melancholeric
15 Feb 2005, 12:34 AM
From the rules...
3.) No Personal Insults or "Flames."
A Personal Insult, or Flame is:
-A post with the sole apparent intent to enrage another user of the forum
-A personal attack or name-calling based upon lies and/or subjective statements.
-Exception: there is leeway for very obvious jokes (where the other poster clearly acknowledges this).
Emphasis mine.
The way I see it, one should use common sense in posting anything that the other user could possibly consider offensive, and bet on the safe side. ( F. ex. I did "flame" CreativeChaos a few times, but given the context, I assumed she wouldn't take offense, and probably didn't. Atleast, I haven't been warned yet. ) If there's a problem, it should probably be sorted via PMs.
Geoff
15 Feb 2005, 12:34 AM
That's not an easy one. I for example have a very high offence threshold (I am difficult to insult successfully as I am so laid back and relaxed. can't be bothered really). In EJ's case however, I was not particularly impressed by being called an F*cking c*nt over and over for little reason! Just need a common sense approach really. Offense is in the eyes and the ears of the beholder but of course you have to balance this with a 'would any reasonable person take offence' approach.
I knew if I waited long enough this thread would morph into who hates who ;)

In terms of the rules that can be framed, do you think that difficulty is created by the fact that some people's offence threshold is much lower than others? How would you suggest that this can be catered for? I rather think the new rules are a little too stringent. But, this is rather difficult: I may dislike a member, possibly, but I am rarely going to find offense in what he may say ( this isn't tolerance, which is an astoundingly over-rated quality; but mere apathy and disdain more like --- however always remember, People are only Tolerant about things they don't care about, which is why tolerance is not really a virtue; although forbearance most definitely is ) other's are more sensitive.
I think just keeping it generally polite and completely refraining from attacks on people and their intelligence should be enough. Although I might be tempted into a flame-war if other's start it, if a person misunderstands/distorts your arguments it's better to get bored and leave the question rather than wrangle with them indefinitely.
If less satisfying.

You lie like a dog. You started whining about me and your "low IQ" after a post in which I said I would probably believe in god if I halved my IQ. It had nothing to do with you, and it's still true. Oh, once I did say you must have a low IQ if you think I said you had a low IQ. Reminiscent of this moment.

My ancestors are Cherokee Indian (on my mothers side, she's 1/4 Cherokee) and Irish on my Fathers side.
We can trace the Irish name back to the 1400s in Northern Spain. It was a Spainish name that became Irishsized and then became a prominent Irish name.

There is some overlap between the two lists - people who are favorites as both posters and as people, and then people who are favorites mostly just because of what they POST, or for some other technical reason.
I like Serotonin, Mgbradsh, Biff_Loman, Joft, and Misutii as people as well as "posters". They strike me as individuals I might have become friends with if we had met in a library or something. Complex intellects, but not afraid to show their feelings.
How could one omit Clara and Creative Chaos from the friendly category either? But I have the imression that they are equally nice to everyone, which always serves as a strange qualifier. My mother and one of my sisters were always ones to praise any and every present that they got at Xmas or whatever, so that you never knew how much they REALLY liked it, or if they even DID like it at all. Both of these ladies are not so one-sided as this simple example, but I am reminded of that.
( I love Clara's avatar of the wise old crow. I think someone else has taken the coyote already, too, or is that a red fox? Is there a place you guys go to get avatars? I had a cool grotesque skull avatar picked out, but decided it might not be how I would want to be thought of on a daily basis. Hee Hee. I then downloaded an Egyptian symbol, but am still trying to get it transferred to the forum. I will have to ask my tech friend Bob when he next comes over to visit. "Note to self", as Clara would say. )
There is another class of people whose posts are interesting in one way or another. Would we hit it off in a library? Maybe. Maybe not. People in this group follow.
Shai Gar and Zedo on the male side tend to keep things lively. The forum will never sink into the level of "white papers" talking to one another, and endless hair splitting, with them leaping in to keep things going. Booyalab would represent the female side of this. I remember wondering as a young boy why there weren't more female singers like Grace Slick, who I thought was sexy in a new kind of way. I used to complain to one of my sisters about the dearth of more "assertive" women in the arts and public eye. I didn't realize people like Joni Mitchell were doing things like her portrayal of a male black Miles Davis fan in an obscure movie!! The roles for female artists seemed restrictive, and yet here we were in the so-called "sexual revolution" of the 70's where supposedly "everything was being called into question". Nowadays I guess I'm glad that there are still some nurturing types around. Hee hee. Back on topic, I guess the only thing I would say further on this is that I think we should balance the purely "banter" side of the forum with more extended pieces. It's obvious which side I am more biased towards.
I like Songbird34 for reasons that need to remain secret for now.
Melancholeric nearly made my A list, but I sense a distancing there too. I sense a kindred spirit who prefers an arms length.
The new voice "Clown" looks very promising. We have a poet in our midst! A lot of effort was put into that post. Hello Germany!!!!!!
There are others who have started great threads but who I don't see often enough to remember here. I can only apologize for the omission of their names.
It's interesting how I associate people with the avatar picture, even though I obviously know it is usually not a pic of the person themself. When I was new, I did think Purple13's avatar was "herself" although I learned differently later. I guess he is a guy, but I forget. Here I was thinking, "foxiest lady on here." I will always picture Booyalab with her Dyanne Thorne outfit on, although she subtracted from that a bit by telling me she looks deceptively "suburban" in real life. Hmmm. Down vest? Tweezed brows, pre-faded magenta jeans ? Hair cut shorter, though, just to add pepper? And I think Avengardh's was a fooler too, but can't remember the details. Perhaps I should use an old "Rob Lowe"- type for mine? Or do the ladies prefer the "Lee Marvin with an earring" types these days?
:)
People I plan on contacting are Int and Coffee Zombie. I almost said "people I am planning on getting to know better", but basically that applies to EVERYONE on this email, and others to come. I haven't had that many interactions with people, period. One question I have asked and asked, but never had answered by anyone is "how do I start a new thread"? vs. replying to someone else's? It's clearly something obvious I'm missing .

Okay, if we're going to start putting it that way, Divi has stood out the most. I first encountered him and S in a "war" of sorts. I knew these people none at all, but dived right in and did my crazy, wacky thing. (I do that because it messes with INTPs since of logic  ) And then, we had further encounters and craziness, zaniness, and well. He's the most fun to me to go wild with.
Indiejade is my favorite famale person. I'm not exactly sure why. I just like her.
MG has always been kind and considerate to me. So he's my favorite "straight" male.
MM, is my favorite male. He posts on the INFP site also. So I know him a little better.

I like, TJ/Sally,waxwing,jread's never ending supply of ass threads. Ass threads are great! tragula,Claverhouse, misutii, kuranes and everyone loves booya, so that is boring.
Last, but not least is Serotonin. We never seem to communicate very succinctly but that aside, I get this gut vibe that he is a really good dude and has some of the qualities that are so lacking in myself.
There are others, but I am damn tired so this is enough for now, can't get too sappy.

Special props:
Waxwing: Must be the 5w4, but I respect her so much. She's so diplomatic, creative and understated and I sense a wellspring of good-heartedness. Possibly because she's a social worker. A deserved  for her.
Meshou: Too much attitude for just a AA cup. The boys like to taunt her (god knows for what reason). I like to watch her retaliate, and boy does she. The perfect personality to cope with her situation of Texas drudgery.
Claverhouse: The only member I know in advance who will kick my ass in a debate if ever we find ourselves on opposite sides of the wall. He knows history, and he'll use it, usually to prove you or I wrong.
Hypnos: Part scientist camaraderie, more that the guy knows how to live, and live well. His "sha-bang" - William Hung makes me laugh, everytime.
Sally/TJ: For her taste in music and cinema.
And Helios, dude, thank-you, but vice versa. what I wouldn't give for your sex appeal.... sometimes I wish I was an ENTP 7 instead of a 5.

That said, there are several people who, if I see they have posted something I automatically check it out, even if the thread topic doesn't interest me at all:
Meshou - SO good at the verbal smackdown! the girl can write
Serotonin - always smart, thoughtful comments, and knows his 'pop' culture
mgbradsh - knows how to write a great polemic
tragula - reasonable and interesting in arguments (and he had the good taste to mention ME in HIS list :) )
macguffin, coffeezombie, crule81 - share a knack for the short but right-on-target comment.
ApetheDog - smart, funny stuff
garak - insightful, honest - actually, he's another good one for the short-but-worthwile comment
deepsky - yeah, what happened to her? she's good at the verbal sparring too
there are others I'm forgetting, I'm sure...

He still comes around sometimes. He told me that he's putting more effort into the outside world right now. As I should be. But he'll show up when you least expect it. I haven't checked, but he might be part of the growing trend to not allow other members to know if you're logged in.

Wow, I completely missed this thread the first time 'round. Ironic, since I'm in garak's original post.
I dunno. I'm too diplomatic to list my favourite members. . . my apologies. And yeah, I'm 25.

I enjoy everyone very indiscriminately, on the boards.
But the special people know who they are. ;)

I have 4 favourite members. 3 of them know who they are, and one of them doesn't. Then there are a lot of other members I like in a more partial way.

I have a few favourite members, but won't list them here. One person apart from myself knows who they are.

*feels pretty confident that he is not one of Nonsequitur's faves. Kuranes is just starting to discover this person. He had thought Nonsequitur was a guy before. But now he's not sure. Seems friendly, which is good*

Hahaha.. I will not say anymore about who I like, or my sex. That way everyone will assume that they're one of my favourites, and will (hopefully) reciprocate.

In theme with not revealing anything, I too will now list how many people are my favourites, without listing any names.
6 people. If anyone wants to guess whether or not they're on my list, please do it in PM, so I can lie and say yes regardless of whether or not you are.

You forgot to mention that x number of them already know that they are your favorites but that y number don't. In keeping with the trend.

Ah, that's right. I'll make it more interesting.
one of them knows, one of them doesn't
of one of them i'm certainly on their list, of one of them i'm certainly not
one of them will be sure, another one will never possibly be able to imagine
I'd say half of them know, half of them don't.

Are there some who THINK they're on the list . . erroneously?

Ah yes, there probably are - There are many people out there, so statistically some must suspect they might be and not be on the list.
