View Full Version : An experiment.

Without mentioning who practiced this originally. Anyone that wants to partake is welcome.
The experiment is that as of or around (given country time differences) 2/18-20/05 (or 18-20/2/05), we eliminate "I" from all expressions in speach, posts, within or without INTP central during this time period. Your punishment would be to bite your thumb every time "I" is used.
Who else wants to try it?
We'll post our results here.

Uh, ok. How often do people use forward slashes here anyways? I can't recall using them much.

Pardon me, "I".
It would be a lot more difficult to talk about myself then, and it's well known that's my favorite topic.
THIS GUY will try it for a day, if remembered.
<edit> whoops. Already screwed up. :\ </edit>

No wait, this person was confused, this person does not use conversation very much.

What's the point? Just sounds like a big pain in the ass to me.

That's really, really funny. In all seriousness.

Purple13 could just refer to himself in the third person. That doesn't sound too hard. Ah, but the price Purple13 would pay for this would be high. And "we" is just as bad. People will think we are nuts, or immature (trying to draw attention to ourselves). So what would be the point of doing this?

Clarify.
My apologies, but based on the "experiment", 'I' would be ego. It seems funny to me that would be a pain in the ass.

People will think we are nuts, or immature (trying to draw attention to ourselves). So what would be the point of doing this?Guessing... because it can be fun to play - it's going to be harder than it seems, and everyone around us is going to think, "This person really has a strange sense of humour," while saying, "I don't get that." :P ... and, some of them still won't no matter how much you explain ( so, don't, if you don't want to.). Or, you could just not tell them why it's suddenly harder to find words for what you're trying to say, or why you're laughing. ( I love it! ) C'mon, it'll be fun. *insert smiley for hopeful, waiting, look*
I think he means that we're going to try to not speak from the first person, at all, that day.
I'm going to see who else wants to play, outside the fora ( you know, the "I don't have time for pointless discussion, and I find you a little odd to be wasting time this way." people. ;P Surely everyone knows one or two of them ? )
edit : And, I'm going to succeed, in convincing them to play ( at least for a while ) - Watch and see. :P ( Oh. Right. You can't. *yes, Fe transits really can drive an INTP to distraction* and, see, I'm practicing for the game, in these parentheses - ow!* )

Third person would be too easy. It would be harder just to eliminate all said persons altogether.

This should be easy. One would think, anyway.

Right, and not only on this forum, but in all other areas of communication. And anytime you say or write "I" such and such because "I" on and on, you bite your thumb. The original person would do this for a month at a time and cut himself.

Startling proposition, indeed. Am guessing it would never work and that it sounds v. Bridget Jones' Diary. ;)

(Piece of cake when we have emoticons!)
There is just one thing that is still unclear - are other personal pronomina allowed?
In my opinion, it's not hard at all to write a post when all actions related to me can be expressed by using the words "me" or "my".
To write without any references at all to the self, however, will sound rather contrite and arrogant, since there is no way to distinguish between subjective opinions and stated facts.
On the other hand, it is more of a challenge that way.

practicing for the big leagues. going to avoid saying any of the m words as well just because can. Of course some of the more boring members won't get into the spirit of things, but don't care.
Well for now guess will limit it to here.

Oho, and some of the quicker ones are working out ways to cheat - already ! ;)
*and what fun would it (not) be, playing a game with people who don't test the limits of the game - uh uh*
Nobarcode, please come back me up, that ellipsing, and changing "I" to "me" are also excluded from the game.
( Who else is going to tell a lucky few non-forumers about this game ? )

What about third person, either variety? (Royal, as in "we" or narrative, as in by name) Were they DQ'd?
It's not cheating, it's taking advantage of all possible resources. Like loopholes. :nerd:
Also... should there be a penalty for inadvertly using a personal pronoun to refer to oneself? This could turn into some sort of silly middle school punching game only with more thinking involved...

Do you like green eggs and ham?
One does not like them, sam-one-is.
One does not like green eggs and ham.
Would you like them here or there?
One would not like them here or there.
One would not like them anywhere.
One does not like green eggs and ham.
One does not like them, sam-one-is.
Would you like them in a house?
Would you like them with a mouse?
One does not like them in a house.
One so not likes them with a mouse.
One does not like them here or there.
One does not like them anywhere.
One does not like green eggs and ham.
One does not like them, sam-one-is.

YardGnome, that was simply delightful . . . now, for another piece, "Fire and Ice"
Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what he/she has tasted of desire
He/she holds with those who favor fire.
But if he/she had to perish twice,
He/she thinks he/she knows enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

Is it in the morning,
or is it night?
I stand, and I look straight up
At the white ceiling, and I smile.
If I don't know death,
Why do I fight it?
And if I don't know the cold,
Why do I keep myself inside?
Trees are always green,
But I can climb them,
Strip their wood, and leaves,
And burn the forest lest I die.
With only heat, I can survive.
Where-e-ver I go,
I travel lightly,
And to where no one will know
I shouldn't make it, but I might.
The skies of blue don't see my eyes
I run through. My engine is so tight.
For-ever fuel will flow
From sea to mountain
And I hope someday to watch it rain
The winter comes once every year
But I no longer notice the change
I'm sure I never will again.

Failure because of forotten dates doesn't count, does it? You can't really expect an INTP to remember what day it is.
(And using Spanish or any language where you can omit pronouns is extreme cheating, Elro!)

"Extreme" cheating? Nonsense. Although it may be cheating.
What about acronyms that include references to the first person? Like "in one's opinion"/IOO? (Except not.)
This INTP has many more ideas where those came from. :D
