It's a lot easier to see people's pictures when you're not wading through 1300 posts, on god knows how many pages. (I have it set to 200 per page, and I have 7 pages -- I'd hate to know how many pages you'd get with the forum default settings)

So I hacked up a script to yank out all of the images of people in that thread. The one improvement left would be to try and detect signature images and ignore them, but it's good enough for now.

http://fizzyassgravy.com:82/intpmugs.html

UPDATE ---------------------------------

I fixed the two remaining issues:

* images in signatures are now omitted
* attached pictures are now displayed

The source (written in python), for the computer-nerdy and adventurous, is here (http://incise.org:82/pub/intpcentral-wwll.py.txt).

Congratulations, very well-needed.

I should however point out that I never rose to be the Fuhrer's right-hand-man; did not fly on a peace mission in 1941; and was not murdered at the age of 93 after nearly half a century's imprisonment. And neither, was nor did, heero either.

Oh and as far as it being on the main site, it is possible, if the people upstairs want to. The script only requires that python be installed, and it just writes out to one html file (and it could be redesigned/reformatted and/or made to be included in another page via SSI or whatever). It could be cron'd to update once a day or whatever.

Deep breath: 'South of England' generally means in England the South of England, not somewhere south of England; just as South of France usually implies the definite article even if not used.

Agreed, zeitgeist . . . I want to reassert my disagreement with the "VI" thing, especially since there are way too many good-looking INTPs in this current post-1950's photo thread than in the pre-1950's VI photo-thread.

If I was in minor doubt before, I'm in major disagreement now. It's pretty clear that there is no "template" of an INTP.

Although. . . one thing I did notice that most of us aren't of the SF typical "let's show off our toothy grin" species.

Hmm.

I was thinking about this today, because I was trying to type some of my students (which is hard anyway because teenagers are just so fucking weird), who are mostly African American.

I took the test first in 7th, and forgot about it. It was presented to me again in 9th grade, and I have recently taken it once again, this time an extended version. I have received INTP on all 3 testings. I do not see why it would be so difficult for a teenager to understand. Come now, do not sterotype the lot of use ;)

CreativeChaos- A lock?

*hides*

Oh my...well, that would qualify as cutting, and as I have yet to cut my hair in a bit over a year's time, that would ruin my streak, and I have no plans to rape these locks any time soon.

I did make a lock of it once, a short while ago actually. I was in an all day detention sort of thing at school(my cell phone went off during class :/), and I was quite bored, so I was collecting hair as it fell while I read. I ended up tieing them together, about 15 or so. I was going to give it to a friend in response to her joke that she wanted to steal a lock, but I did not, and I threw it away.

You knew your personality type at a relatively young age. Then you said that it was stereotyping to suggest that teenagers might not get accurate test results for whatever reason. If a group of people that are roughly the same in a category (in this case teenagers)are consistently not getting the same distribution of personality test results as a larger category of people (in this case adults), something's influencing the smaller category. Your implication denied any influence.

There is such a thing as willful ignorance.

Oh, I didn't mean that my students didn't get the questions because they're black. None of my students really seemed to get it the way I presented it, except maybe a few (my favorite student, this sweet sweet Mexican boy tested INFJ and I think that was right on!). I may not have presented it well, and they also don't really get abstract vs. concrete yet (especially not my ninth graders).

I think that teenagers are, by and large, not sure who they are or what their preferences are yet. There's nothing wrong with that. The first time I took the test, I tested as an ENFJ and I have NEVER EVER EVER been an extravert, but I thought that was what I was supposed to be like at the time.

Pfft..."talking about how beautiful I am"? Hey, I just post the pics, and leave it at that. I take no responsibility for any comments. ;p

I am aware that I do not post too often in the other forums here. To be blatantly honest, I became bored reading them. Type is too strong of an influence here(even though it is the whole reason for this site's origin. I was expecting just a community of like minds. I did not expect for the personality type bit to be so prominent).

Note: I always introduce myself with pictures. I simply did nothing more than dump my photobucket into that thread when I was bored.

There is such a thing as willful ignorance.

Did you ever consider that what you encountered was nothing more than an anomaly? I see it all the time. One cannot expect ratios for different sizes of test groups and whatnot to be perfect, or even somewhat similar, for every give statistic. Perhaps they were influenced, who knows. My point was, and here I use implication as well, that it seemed to me that you had your view based upon the way you reacted to the test when you first took it, and I was hoping you realize that not all of us have that same reaction. Implications are bothersome really, because all too often we miss subtle hints in other's writings, something that cannot be helped.

nope, I used it as evidence for the fact that teenagers, in general, dont know themselves as well as adults (the supplementary evidence being Eileen's situation). That is a fact, you know. You were the one that was using your situation as a basis for why all teenagers should think the same way. You had one situation to draw from. I had mine and Eileen's and what I know about the psychological development of adolescents. Especially the influence of a society that believes women should be F, on women who are T. Speaking of implications (thought that was apparent)

Throwing "as well'" in there does not change my point. At any given moment, one should know everything there is to know about oneself(not things pertaining to oneself, but one's inner person). If one does not know such things absolutely, how could others?

Sure it does. I can't paint as well as well as some other person, but I can still paint.

At any given moment, one should know everything there is to know about oneself(not things pertaining to oneself, but one's inner person). If one does not know such things absolutely, how could others?
Easily? This doesn't make any sense. No one *ever* knows everything about themselves.

Everyone *should* know themselves the best possibly in order to be healthy/healthier, but that doesn't mean everyone knows themselves too... it is tough and it takes work, you are not born with the absolute knowledge of your inner self available in your conscious. Unless of course you take what you want to be like and convince yourself it is what you *are* like... but that's not knowledge of yourself, that's wishful thinking and deluding yourself.

(I haven't followed the entire discussion, btw... that part just hit me. :) )

And from my own experiences (and it seems, some others) there comes a time between adolescence and mature adult when you find yourself, and re-examine what you are and it is a bit of an existential crisis. Mine was at age 28, but it was a clear event. Since then I know myself better.

Interesting you should say that. I don't feel as though I truly know myself half the time. I started a thread about this a while back. I'm not the most verbose person so it's a bit difficult for me to explain.

When looking at myself in an attempt to define my ego I am completely indecisive. It is very difficult to see a concrete self. Sometimes I feel like a pawn on a gigantic chess board or a character in some movie that has yet to reach its conclusion.

Just as I don't feel I know myself I truly don't think too many people actually know me either. While I was in high school, for example, I don't feel as though anybody actually ever knew me. It's almost as if I wore a mask / put on a facade, and became "Class clown" or that kid with the wierd sense of humor. That facade, that wierd kid with the goofy sense of humor was just that, but at the same time it is certainly a part of me... (does that make any sense to anyone else?)

I'm just confusing myself as usual. Regardless, I don't believe anyone truly knows who they are absolutely. It's just plain impossible to believe that you could possibly know youself to that extent...

P.S.

I guess what I was trying to say or what I mean is you are truly only who you decide you are. Maybe Im suffering through an identity crisi but I am to indecisive to decide that about myself at this particular time in my life...

i have a tough time 'knowing' that i exist. how am i supposed to 'know' something, myself, if it does not exist.

-Geoff Yes, I agree. And I still think we keep finding out things about ourselves throughout our lives. I guess the most we can do, is try to know ourselves as well as possibly and yet keep our options open and re-examine, like you said.

Boo boo bi-doo.

What exactly is "walrus gumboot"?

YardGnome
28 Feb 2005, 04:41 PM
Walrus gumboot - Walrus probably refers to the famous Lennon song, but
gumboots were a standard British term in the thirties
for rubber boots such as "wellingtons" or more popularly
"wellies".

I figured that much, but it still doesn't make sense.
Then again, nothing says it had to.

Oh, I didn't check and assumed it was. He dropped by last week so maybe he still has the code kicking around somewhere, if not online.
