Do you at all give a damn about their holidays?
What signifance does this have to you?
How do you chose to deal with the event?

Yes. Thanksgiving is of utmost importance. I really, really like turkey.

I like holidays...but only the ones when I get off from school/work. Add good food, and it's even meaningful.

I loathe:
- socializing with annoying people
- guilt trips
- turkey
If by thanksgiving you were to mean some sort of occasion where I, alone or close to it, consume a honey cured ham, some sweet potato casserole, and, perhaps, some pie, then yes, this thing you call thanksgiving would be fantastic.

No, I was referring to the mere idea of Thanksgiving.

Sigh..the idea that inspired the holiday. I bet SJs would say its of utmost importance to them. But they are kidding themselves because they are only doing this because they are supposed to. They are just going along with the ritual without knowing anything about the idea of thanksgiving.
And then they have this part of the ritual where one of them stands up and announces why they celebrate. Dont be fooled, this does not in any way show that they are attuned with the idea of thanksgiving. It only shows that they are conscientious enough to fulfill that part of the script too.

Lets see.
-I strongly dislike eating food that I don't find especially tasty, which includes just about all of the dishes served at Thanksgiving.
-I strongly dislike all of my family members.
-Being told that I'm supposed to "give thanks" for something out of duty makes me want to shun it.
So no, not really.

Oh. No, then, the "idea" that we have to set a day aside to give thanks for things is silly. It's also probably an excuse, in the first place. People feel guilty having a feast without a good reason, for some reason, so we make up reasons to have feasts. Whatever.

The holiday itself seems a bit silly to me.
It's not of utmost importance, but it's not something I dislike.
I don't completely enjoy hanging around family members for several hours, but it's not bad, and I love my mom's pumpkin pie. :)

Thanksgiving, to me, is a reminder to give thanks, because we do not do it enough. And for both the people of, and not of a faith, it is an excuse to feast, and bond with your family. It is a time set aside, to break away from the busy life, and make merry.
So yeah, I guess it sorta is a substantial Holiday to me.

You sure this is the time for us to appreciate, or merely stick to the script and act like we appreciate? The holiday cant foist a genuine sense of appreciation, it can only give you an opportunity to express your appreciation. However, then there is little need for the designated holiday as it is easy to find other opportunities to do so.
The Thanksgiving congregations are in my opinion pernicious because they tend to degenerate into cant, what otherwise would have been noble sentiments.

Thanksgiving itself has been corrupted far less than, say, Christmas. However, its intimate association with turkey is a major blow against its integrity.

I like my mom's family and I love the food, so if I were at home i would certainly go. But I live 2000 miles away now, so the dog and I are cooking our own damn turkey.

I like holidays. I like the one with ghosts, the one where turkeys die, the one with the Odin tree, and the German fertility festival with rabbits.
They're all good excuses to change interior decoration, and some of them are traditionally times when my family all gets together.

It's a nice excuse to see family I do not see very often. And yes, I like the food.
But as far as the value of the day itself? I don't know.
Holidays in general don't have much meaning to me. I'm not even thrilled with my own birthday anymore. They're just days on the calendar.

I like seeing my family, and having a nice dinner, and indulging and eating and drinking all day.
It's fun.

Am I sure? Yes.
You can stick to the script all you want, or deviate all you want, that choice is up to you. But the script says meet with family and spend time together, I like that, the script says eat turkey, I like that, again, only need to stick to it however much I choose to, but I like it so far, and if I find something I don't like, I don't have to do it. If you are not thankful, then I suppose there wouldn't be a need for a designated holiday to give thanks but know what? Some people are thankful, and enjoy having a holiday to spend there time giving thanks. Why not do it on your own time? Because that wouldn't be nearly as fun. Doing it all together, that's bonding time! Seeing all these things can help remind you. I also disagree where you said you cay it can't hoist thankfulness, but it if you have only been seeing the negative side of life for a while, getting back and seeing good thanks can make you more thankful.
Is it necessary? No, but neither is chocolate, but there's a demand for that too.

I rather enjoy it. It allows me to spend countless hours in the kitchen being creative, listening to music and running free inside my own head.
I like having people over, I guess because it doesn't happen too often. I've been frying turkeys for the past five years and love it. We play games and watch football and stuff our faces. Not a bad day.
The conversation is good. People who've never met seem to enjoy engaging with new people. Much of the clean up is done for me and I usually end up with more booze than I started with. It's a somewhat pricey affair but I like to show appreciation to some of the people in my life.
