NoahFence, your avatar is one of my top 10 favorite avatars on INTPc, since it made me smile first time I saw it. Did you take the photo? Your dog?
No, my dog wouldn't fit in a bun. It's internet flotsam I picked up, I have a larger copy but the site wouldn't let me use it :p
Noah's looks like it would be that random thing you saw in the park that made you do a double take and say "WTF?" out loud.
Those WTF moments are the M&M's in the trail mix of my life.

That song is actually Hustler's theme song. Cross thread action here.

I see an Elder Homid Ragabash Wendigo named "Scent of Adolescent Rage" that you just dumped 500 XP into, to find out the "Bones of the Ancients" ritual is nearly useless in LARP, regional won't let you undo it since it was mentioned in gameplay, and you don't want to spend the time converting the stats to tabletop since the local tabletop games are snoozefests.

My cat has the annoying habit of trying to snuggle with the book that I'm reading. She also has to sit right on my chest and kneed with her claws. OUCH. While she is sitting 2 inches from my face, kneeding, she often yawns right at me. She does often reach out with her paw, claws retracted, and caress my chin, which makes up for all the annoying habits.

You were informed wrongly: sheep can get stuck on their backs on a flat piece of ground.
Back in Devon, I once or twice found one with all it's limbs in the air helpless, and rolled them to normal. They are surprisingly heavy, and displayed no gratitude whatsoever. On the other hand, they are only like that because farmers since the 17th century have bred them to be thick-sided and large-backed. Wild sheep look nothing like farmed sheep and are agile: so much so they can get stuck on the side of rocky cliffs in nature like goats: so bad things happen no matter what.

Well, if you're going to be our resident sheep-expert, I have another story to query you on. I've heard that if the whole flock decides to beat feet ("have hooves"?) and it requires jumping over a fence that isn't up to the task of withstanding the less-then-athletic attempts at clearing the fence, that even when the third wave of sheep totally knocks the fence down, that the rear-rows will get to that spot, and jump too, not because they need to anymore, but because their fellows did. Or, put another way, the sheep philosohpy is:
Buuuuut we've always done it that waaaaaay!!

Fascinating that sheep aren't smart enough to just rock a bit and get themselves oriented correctly, even on flat ground!
* TPol thinks of a distant neighbor who raises sheep and wonders if he'd let her perform sheep behavior experiments. Tries to remember his email address, then remembers he threw out his computer. (sigh) Having an allergy to phones, TPol drops the idea completely. *

I get tolerable results with the unit I own. That way when I cut other people lawn, it can go home with me to my horses. Can't do that with a conventional lawn mower.
They aren't cheap tho ... mine cost $100 or so, for a chunk of cheap steel bolted to a lightweight aluminum handle.

Eeek, it's not a question of 'smartness': it's to do with bodily mass; you might as well say a 30 stone man isn't intelligent enough to swing on a branch to escape a landslide. He would if he could.
They do make ineffectual movements, but as said: they've been bred to have broad backs. Heaven only knows what weird freaks the geneticists will come up with when they can 'design' humans and animals.
Claverhouse http://intpcentral.com/forums/images/smilies/ninja.gif
Well, good point in it not being a matter of smartness, Claverhouse. But, that introduces a new question. How did the sheep get onto his back in the first place? Top heavy? Rolling around in the dust? If it is a rolling issue, then it might be a regular behavior (like for horses). If it is a regular behavior, then it is probable that a single sheep has gotten "stuck" more than once. Therefore, the sheep did not learn from previous incidents. Enter in a subtle form of "smartness" that sheep may perhaps lack. Raccoons, for instance, would likely learn from the first predicament. ** TPol thinks of ka.avik's raccoon obsession and gets sidetracked on that, then realizes the thread is derailing, thanks to deep sheep theory she started. Wanders away after a quiet apology to the group. ** :)

I think the lines of the image are very gentle and serene. She is an empty shell, but is still present and conveys something of humanity with great potency. She lives outside of herself. She is vulnerable, but timeless. In her expression there is something left unfelt.
I am especially fascinated by the persistence of fragility in the world. The tiniest wildflowers grow in the most hostile soil, every adult creature survives infancy, even the wisps of clouds persist in their returning and will after the landscape is reformed. That image represents something of this to me, but within the specific context of humanity.

Yeah, it makes me think she was sacrificed. It's like after the horror of being sacrificed and despite eons of time, her girlie-ness still remains, in-tact. How about that?
It's like a testament to the eternal feminine, or somethinglikethat. I like it.

Mine is my reaction to those annoying people who mistake my contemplative face (virtually all the time) for unhappiness & say "SMILE!" :2up: (that makes me want to eat fried kitten salad, by the way, preferably with their kitten). So my avatar expresses my general irritation at living in an SF world.

My previous avatar was a cartoon about an abortion right winger holding up a sign that said "Abortion is wrong!", with several other people standing nearby with signs reading, "except in cases of rape" "except when the mother is in danger" and so on. A more political version of shades of gray.

Right now, approaching the Christmas Holiday I am the Bumble. There is not so much cloak and dagger behind that one... it's a pretty straight chronological analogy of my life history. I'm just a warm fuzzy trying my best to simply put the star on people's trees. It's more fun than mangling them.
For the week of Thanksgiving, I was a turkey carcass lying in repose--naked and with bikini bake tan lines showing.
In October, I was dressed up as the Blonde from the birds, shielding herself from getting her eyes pecked out.
The only avatars I think I am deeply attached to here are Ptah and Booya... and I deeply miss Hilbertspace's mad scientist that made me laugh every time I saw it. I think I even told Helium on the phone the other day that I secretly hoped that was what Hilbertspace really looks like because the image was so charming and endearing. Rhu's Earl was always pretty great, though the pencil sketch was just right, too.
Helios changing avatars bring joy to the masses. Edahn's are typically hysterical, too, when read in context with his tag line.
Also, one can never forget Todayme--and though we dread seeing him, it was damn funny.

This image has always stuck with me since the first time I set eyes upon it (long, long ago). It has indirectly catalyzed a whole fictional universe ("Fixed Fantasy" for you disorder nuts) in my mind that will be with me til the day I'm dead. I'm not even a fan of D&D (which it was scanned from) or egyptian mythology (the name I have taken); I just adapted it to my own inner fantasy world and it stuck.
That, and it looks divinely bad-ass, if you ask me. Universe in the eyes ... what's better than that?

So that's what I've been constructing since I was about 10 or 11.... I figure most people have an active fantasy life, but I wasn't sure that other people built elaborate universes with rules and cultures of their own.

I always had a fascination with the movie as a kid, but after losing the VHS years ago I had no memories (other than Mombi and the wheelers) of how much of a freak show that entire flick actually was until I finally got my hands on a dvd copy about 2 years ago. It's still one of my very favorite movies to watch, though.
I also used it last Fall/winter, and I brought it back for the season. It's stayed past October (again) because I am lazy and haven't found anything new worth keeping up for months at a time yet. I may change to a new avatar for the holidays in the next few days though...

It's kind of hard to see, but it's Prez. Buzh holding 'flat stanley' with the caption "before"
Next frame is 'fat stanley' from the show "The office" with the caption "after"
see the joke is, after dealing with prez buzh, he was so stressed out that he gained tons of weight and was so humbled by the stupidity that he realized that there's no sense in doing anything 'noble' and decides to follow his true passion -- to sell paper. Unfortunately, he's immensely disgruntled, because of the traumatic experience with the president, so it doesn't really appear as though he's fulfilling a deam of any kind. But that's only the surface mentality. Deep down, he's finally happy.

I really like the color and texture in that photo. As for my ring birthing the amber... I only had these two on the same hand for less than five minutes and I thought I kept a close eye on them... (tongue held firmly in cheek) lol

OMW, I'm so glad you clarified that, I've been rattling my brain for quite a while trying to figure out what it is. I like it, Its amazing how it has that gold quality, when its not the least bit metallic. Good job.
Mine is just what would be stuck on the door at the end of the hall in which my padded cell is situated. In simple terms, the sign signifies impedance. If you see this anywhere, listen closely, you may be able to hear the mumbled ramblings of a man trying desperately to overcome the as yet unjustifiable obstacle of his own existence. But don't listen for too long (thats what the sign is there for). Also, bring me a cup of tea while you're there.

The Joker, from the upcoming Batman sequel, The Dark Knight.
His erraticism is thought to be a "super-sanity" where, to alleviate the daily stress of routine and predictability, he recreates his identity as he sees fit.
Unrealistic cathartic strategy, yet interesting nonetheless.

I dabble in macro work, but nothing too serious. I also enjoy photographing buildings; with good framing, buildings and architecture can be very interesting. Examples:

I like your "macro work", especially that first photo of the undersides of balconies. Great. I think you have the eye for lapidary if you chose to pursue it.
There are a lot more opportunities for "artist co-ops" and so forth, out there where you're at, than elsewhere. I don't know if it is dependent on the changing insurance liabilities of different states or what. I own a diamond blade saw and...can't even do anything with it, in an apartment building, for example. Nor is there anyone who wants to start such a co-op out here. And the Park District "workshops" are starting to close down. The City's office of budget meisters have said such closings are due to small demand, but how much demand do they expect from non-retirees during business hours on weekdays ?
I need to learn more about inlay work.
Meanwhile I buy rough stone that would be fantastic as a source for cabs.

Some Danish hairdresser who's got a hair appliance out on the market. I remember neither his name, nor that of whatever he's selling, but I came across that horrid photograph yesterday while reading a great blog called Infomercial-Hell.
And to give everyone a sense of true terror, the original image is more like 800 x 1000 pixels.

Acute awareness of self: what constitutes self, what influences self, how one's actions reflect self. I bet his real life posture is kind of fucked, too. And he probably stares at things, or nothings, often.

Thank you, and you're quite right, especially about the first part. When I was younger I used to think that if I concentrated hard enough, I could step right through my 'visual' surroundings and into the 'real' ones which were outside of them. All I had to do was manage to poke a hole, and the rest would be easy.
Never worked though. :(

The simplicity of the character in the drawing shows that this person is interested in essential questions, the basic outline or core of life's issues. The childish connotation in the drawing implies an obsession with the past and idealist concerns, underlined by the character's glancing upwards. The way the character holds his hands to his chest (and heart) denotes a strong sense of privacy with regard to emotional issues, which is emphasized somewhat provocatively with the words "no no it's not a secret". This person wants to be discovered.

The protective uniform denotes the desire to avoid contaminating his soul with the vices and immorality of the world around him. The dark glasses show a guarded personality and a cynical outlook, though the exaggerated self-righteousness of the pose and outfit indicate the ability to not take his own standards too seriously.
http://www.intpcentral.com/uploads/greensea.jpg
As there is no figure in the avatar (human or animal), this person is actually behind the camera, meaning she primarily adopts the role of observer. The low position of the viewpoint (just above the water or over the ground), seems to indicate a humble and grounded personality. The view of a peaceful green sea seems to imply the search for peace and the desire to detach oneself from immediate concerns of everyday life, taking refuge in the more spiritually-satisfying contemplation of the world's mysteries.
