Ok, I know theres a lot of computer buffs out there that will say anything lower than a p4 3 Gigahertz computer with some crazy ass video card is the way to go, or go home.

But

There are many cool things you can do with an old computer. For instance I have a laptop that is top of the line as of 7 years ago. P3 356 RAM, and 6 Gigs of HD. Now I am needing to upgrade the HD cause I've gotten into adobe, but really, you can do a lot with "ghetto" computers. I don't think that they get enough recognition.

btw: this thing has never crashed, and windows 2000 on it is perfect and i like it and thats it.

Now I think the ghetto line is a p2, I have a p2 laptop, and it actually was noticably slow on everyday applications, if not there, the 586 for sure is the line. As for RAM, I dont know, im not a buff enough to really know.

I'd love to have a really old 486 or something so I could play Death Tracks. I loved that video game.

Sure they can do plenty ... just a lot slower. I'm all for being old school, but damn, slow computers are just annoying as shit. Anything under 1ghz is pretty pointless to me. You can get a 1+ghz cpu and motherboard for what ... $70? You could even buy them used.

(and I think anything around 1ghz or higher is acceptable, but only as an extra machine. main machine must not lag a lot or I will become very annoyed with it)

I own one. Well, I don't *truly* own it until my Grandparents die (since they have it now). But it was my first PC. It's got Civilisation 1 on it. ^_^

The ghetto line is whatever you can get away with.

I recently upgraded after my old cpu started to act a little strange. I thought 1GB of ram was necessary these days. But no, I'm not even close to using that much...
