View Full Version : INTPs, hard and bitter on the outside with a soft and gooey center?

Yes, Yes, I think so.

Let's Discuss!

Sure, whatever, as long as we're not cherry cordials. Blegh!

For most people that we interact with, I think the Ti-Ne combination may produce the opposite effect.

SOs are exempt.

That's INTJ, lion. INTPs are more like chocolate covered gravel.

It depends.

Like all INTPs my brain is a cold solid place,

but in a relaxed state, Ne and Fe are projected while Ti and Si take a break.

This would give the impression of 'gooey center' I suppose

So the gooeyness is extroverted? Chocolate covered gravel, I say.

I've seen situations in which both can be true. In a "professional" setting where I'm moderately comfortable definitely I'm the cheeriest of the bunch, but that doesn't mean I care -- chocolate covered gravel.

but in other situations, such as friends asking for help -- I'll refuse them because I can't actually get what they need, even if technically I can get them what they asked for -- but am totally torn up over the fact that I can't be of more use.

So the perception from friends is hard, heartless exterior beneath which lies an uncontrollable wellspring of

I'm going to go with a peanut m&m.
Crunchy on the outside and a thin layer of sweet chocolate surrounding a big ass nut.

What helium said, except the chocolate's really bitter.

On a side note, I just noticed that your (NLion and helium) avatars are remarkably similar. That looks like a mean game of Mercy.

Well then I want my candy coating to be comprised of arsenic and C4.

Confectionarilly speaking, ESFJs remind me of the soap centred sweets available at joke shops.

Coming right up. Want some milk with that?

3 layers. Hard outer shell, then layer of gooey stuff, then hard core.

Dark chocolate, caramel, dark chocolate (taste).

Actually, Lion I think you're absolutely right. The only thing is that it's more like a tootsie roll tootie pop. Most of the world will never know.

No, I hate to say it, but we have a reputation of being entirely unlovable, or so I think.

Lava is soft and gooey too. So are cockroaches.

INTPs are like baklava made up of alternating layers of soft sweet goodness and hard bitter badness. Kinda like an onion. But cooler. Or maybe it makes more sense to model the gaps between the hardness & softness as being proportional to relative solar system or atomic nucleus distances.

Lava is a good analogy.

Soft and gooey but it burns.

Must be when people get a glimpse of the core, and realize that deep down inside, we really do not care...

Sure we do, just not about the things people would like us to...

I'm more... hard and bitter on the outside, and at the core too, but I have a mantle of somewhat toffee-like consistency.

I'm neutral with consistence, outside and inside. With few notable exceptions, of course.

Definitely a soft, gooey center for me ... but it's pretty difficult to get to it.

I'd have to say its the reverse. Soft and gooey on the outside with a hard interior. Externally, we can be vague, playful and uncertain, but when you hit the core of our being, we're pretty solid. IMSO

I'm like a bedsore. On the outside, I'm crust and slime and emanating an odor that will curdle milk and curl your toes. On the inside, I'm all writhing insect larvae and juicy, mouth-watering near-bursting pustules.

I suppose that's why nurses are often xSFJs. They're the only ones who'll keep you dry and oxygenated so you can't bother anyone.

And that is why we, as INTPs, must stay away from their kind. We lose much of our texture and flavor when 'treated.'

Only in unperturbed festering may we devolve into gods.

I'm pretty sure that I seem like a stereotypical "girl" on the outside- sensitive, empathetic, and quick to say the dreaded "awww." Sometimes I play to this stereotype, just because its so easy to do.

But when I'm being completely honest, I'm much more likely to crack non-PC, inappropriate jokes at the person/situation.

The "chocolate covered gravel" metaphor seems to fit me pretty well.

I'm soft and gooey seeming (key word: seeming) on the outside, have a thick hard layer of rock beneath it and am somewhat soft on the inside, but it's really hard to get to that.

* Hurries off to think of something other than slimy, crusty, olive-flavored, cockroach-footprinted peanut M&Ms *

On a serious note, what functions cause the external softness and internal hardness?

I think we're

Ne - outer chocolate fudge layer
Ti - the gravel part
Fe - the lava that burns
Si - the hot inner core of volatile past memories

It's easy to hit the gravel part because our outer chocolate layer isn't very durable, since it's our aux function. Sometimes the gravel peeks through.

Further than that, however, is much harder to get to, unless the person mounts a deliberate attack.
