What list?

Of European countries that don't like Bush. I don't like him, either, for the record. I voted for the other party both times. I have NO idea why this country keeps him in the white house. He has a very low popularity poll for an second term president.

He BARELY made it BOTH times he was elected. The Americans are VERY divided at this point.

that was obvious...i mean come on, who really likes him. Even the people who voted for him don't like him!

Haa! Yeah! Really! Geeze! He has ruined our country's budget. Clinton left office after FIXING the deficet budget project and Bush DESTROYED it in one term. Blah! I think I'm going to move. What's Belgium like, Swifty?

Slightly more serious now....

I find the tone and content of that article to be immature, counter-productive and naive, whether you think Bush is a moron or not, it's a silly prank pulled by a bunch of socialist political activists. Now if you want to see a moron go find a socialist political activist and I garantee you will find one.

What's Belgium like, Swifty? Moderate climate, reserved, hard working people, good food, excellent beer, corrupt politicians, social security, etc...

Gee! Thanks Swift! I've added those to my favorite list. I've browsed through them. Fascinating! So English is spoken at work. And the communes, that's neat.

But, on topic. What point were you trying to make with this? Or just putting it out into CyberSpace to see what collects?

OK, wrong words....

I think actions such as sticking the american flag with George Bush's face on to urinals and asking people to pee on is stupid, it acheives nothing helpful or useful and only encourages naive simplified thoughts. I am no fan of George Bush but the way people go on about him over here in europe especially is quite frankly absurd, you would think the man had only evil thoughts and was directly responsible for all that is wrong in the world. I find these actions totally driven by irrational feelings and although I can understand them the logical rational side of me gets irritated.

I don't really care very much, I hate getting into political debates of any sort because I do not really have any opinions on politics, I tend to view all politics like a sociologist and therefore find the whole thing interesting irrelavent of the specific views and how I feel about them.

Sorry for my silly posts

I tend to view politics in the same way, Lee. I have a bachelors in Political Science, i.e. International Relations. I find the subject fascinating, but hate political debates.

However, I am personally involved here. Bush is ruining our country in my opinion. It's not the war in Iraq, which I happen to approve of, but the way he is handling our economy. He is wrecking it, which will have a DIRECT impact on MY life and my future security. I never got into bashing Bush debates before, but it just keeps getting worse.

Oh! It said English is spoken at work. Huh! Well what other languages do you speak? Belgians (depending on their community) speak either Dutch, French or German. Most people understand and speak English, but it isn't some kind of "standard office language" or something like that. It's only spoken to foreign employees, managers, customers, etc...

And Flemish? i thought that was the majority language (just). I get to to go Belgium occasionally.. and I usually just stick to English because, well, even if I try say French I always get answered in English anyway ;)

I like Belgium, but it poorly regarded in UK.. people make "who would want to go to Belgium" jokes.. but I like places like Bruges, and all that lovely chocolate. Oh and lambic beers are pure genius!

I don't approve of the war either, and of course that's where a fair portion of our tax money is going right now...if we actually wanted to stamp out terrorism, we should be concentrating on Saudi Arabia, where their tax dollars manage to find their way to AlQueda & the like. I'll quit here as I want to say:

We all had quite a laugh about what the prez' reaction to hearing he'd maxed out his credit was -- get a higher limit! ($$7.5 TRILLION ??)

And Flemish? i thought that was the majority language (just). I get to to go Belgium occasionally.. and I usually just stick to English because, well, even if I try say French I always get answered in English anyway ;)Flemish is the Belgian "variety" of dutch. It's actually the same language, grammar and spelling rules are made by a Flemish-Dutch joint language commision, and only the regional accents differ.

Strangely enough, the dutch television has this policy to subtitle everything that isn't made in the Netherlands, so even perfectly understandable Flemish productions get subtitles.

Why do you come to Belgium? Bussines? Tourism? Some ancestor that's burried between the poppy's? Bruges and Genth attract a lot of English tourists.

Oh, what foreign nation or leader likes Bush?..... No one I would guess. The PM of Spain lost because he supported Bush in the Iraq fiasco. I still don't understand how Bush won the election anyway, except that the majority of the United States must be on a totally different plane than the rest of us. Is there anybody on this forum who is a Bush supporter. (Lynchings will be held at midnite Feb 29)

Swift

I still don't understand how Bush won the election anyway, except that the majority of the United States must be on a totally different plane than the rest of us. A flemish journalist wrote an interesting article about this. Since he wrote in Dutch, I'll try to recapitulate the main points.

- An overwhelming majority of the Americans is still deeply religious and morally conservative.
- The Republicans convinced a lot of these people to vote by emphasising religious-moral themes.
- The Democrats became more cultural-religious "Left", so even poor people, would rather vote Republican than Democrat.
- Republican states have a faster growing demographic (they breed more).

So what do you think of this?
