After about two hours of sleep and driving through a horrific snowstorm, I feel more in touch with myself than ever. Has this happened to you? It feels awesome.

Is it just because you were tired, or because you did something productive/ engaging/ fulfilling in that time.

I know what you're talking about. I'm used to being well rested and having a lot of free time on my hands. Whenever I push myself and exhaust myself inordinately, it puts me into states of consciousness that I don't get into ordinarily that bring a certain clarity with them.
I think any kind of extreme experience will put you in greater touch with yourself. We're just habitually lazy so we fail to adopt a lifestyle that recognizes this. We think we function better when we conserve, but we actually get more out of exhausting ourselves.

Yes, yesterday I had had 2 hours of sleep the night before, and before that 4 hours over the last 5 days. It did bring clarity - of a kind.

In this instance, primarily exhaustion...thinking becomes too tired and the emotional self is there. I understand the point, though...after running half a marathon, had parallel experience, no doubt from accomplishment (and crazy levels of oxygen...and, uh, being tired!) That kind of engagement is amazing, sort of the fundamental of living.

Sleep deprivation causes enhanced dopamine release.
So that's why I get high when I don't sleep. It feels so nice the day after.

You're logically closer to flowing.
You're out of mind's way when you're sleeping.
