What do you think?

A psychologist on TV says it is megalomania.

Should have made it public, if that's possible.

The guy obviously liked living dangerously. But he got caught. Power corrupts, as the saying goes. What a jerk.

Couldn't stay on top of his demons, imo.

Sounds like he stayed on top of lots of other things, though.

There's nothing special about him. I love it when stuff like that happens. Plus it's worse for Hillary. Can't stand the bitch.

Has to be megalomania. You don't need to spend that kind of money on a prostitute unless you get off on the fact that you can spend that kind of money on a prostitute.

I don't understand how any of this pertains to Hillary.

Zing?

Although, it's pure speculation as to whether he was on top or not; I hear powerful men are often into the whole submissive thing...

Male dilemma: Happy with wot you got = no ambition, no reason to mount a battle, you're a pussy. Not happy, risk all for a few microseconds of relief, the excitement of forbidden 'love' = danger and excitement.

It is sad, really, graduate from Harvard Law with distinction, make AG in your thirties, Governor in your forties, have Wall Street, the Masters of the Universe tremble at your feet, and you have to pay for pussy??????

Just curious, but how vested are you in the US election? Mild interest or unabated devotion? Or most likely somewhere in between.

I gotta say I've got no complaints about Spitzer's taste in women (http://www.thehollywoodgossip.com/gallery/stars/ashley-alexandra-dupre/). Still $4500/per hour or so is a bit rich, even for condomless buttsecks. I assume it was taxpayer money though, so what does he care.

Saw a guy today who knows a thing or two about human behavior having invented some useful stuff (http://www.franklincovey.com/). He suggested the same thing.

Horny dominant male w + religious guilt & shame = classic reaction formation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reaction_formation) that eventually imploded

Also, everyone (not this board but the public in general) doesn't seem to realize that a large part of that $4500 is not for sex but for not kissing-and-telling. $4500 buys you a prostitute that keeps quiet about her clients.

John Whitehead once wrote an op-ed column in the wall street journal, criticizing the way Spitzer handled a case. After the column ran, Spitzer was quoted by Whitehead as saying: "I will be coming after you. You will pay the price. This is only the beginning and you will pay dearly for what you have done." http://opinionjournal.com/extra/?id=110007713

He's a giant narcissistic asshole. The end.

The way things worked out, I guess he could have spent considerably less.

Something I read had some quotes from Heidi Fleiss who was saying she wouldn't have taken him as a client because he tried to negotiate. She basically said she knew the guy was a sleezy scumbag because of that. Then her ego kicked into overdrive and she was saying how she had all these super powerful and influential people. It's like oh please, if you were really that good your ass would've never have gotten caught. Either that or your narrow behind would've been drugged up and left for dead.

But it is kinda interesting that it was the (supposedly) IRS monitoring money transfers that lead to the discovery. Now, what I'm not sure about was the so called triggers. I'm still not clear on the chicken/egg thing for what brought on the investigation of whose account first. If it was the bank because of post 9/11 legislation getting tipped off by $4600 transactions, that amount has dipped way below the point in the 80's when it was generaly amounts higher than 30-50K. Certainly not below $10 thou. Despite the fact that they caught a big fish busting quite a few laws I can't help to think something was brought on through breech of privacy under the guise of national security.

Now, this guy being a pub off, maybe you see how often he eats at the Waldorf as opposed to Quizinos, and so that brings the hounds to the trail. Otherwise, it essentially shows there is no floor. The govt can get all up in your bidness the moment you step into a bank.

I'd guess there were a combo of reasons why. I don't know if I'd list self sabotage. I don't know if I'd call it marital problems but I do wonder how compartmentalized he placed his wife and her role. Especially considering his press conf and the somewhat procedural tone and execusion of it all. It made me wonder did she know about this before. Had someone prepped them for public scandal 101?

I don't know how much the guy has to confess or apologize for but I was reminded of Michael Irvin one time he got busted I think partying w/coke and strippers. Rumors had come up before and he'd talk about being a new man and walking the straight and narrow but then something else would come along. But one time something happened and you could tell in his press conf he was a broken man. I can't remember if his wife was beside him or in the front row or where but instead of a phony stand by your man kind of appearance, it was like she was there because it was the first step to restoring her dignity by having him publicly apologize for what he'd done to her and her family. Incidently, there was another accusation that came up less than a year later. It didn't seem possible but some columnists were calling for his head. Turns out it was all made up and they threw the woman in jail for making false charges.

Three years from now I can see this guy pulling a $750K base consulting fee, having all the liasons w/young women from wealthy int'l families he meets at his private clubs, poss married by title alone. Overall, I'd say I don't know why he did it. I mean there should've been a guy to take care of all that for him to keep his hands clean. Didn't seem like it was a Bill/Monica kind of thing where they meet and whatever sparks fly and then opps, did I tell you I'm a prostitute? My guess would be he cheated on his wife well over a good decade ago and never got it out of his system. Ho's would just be easier for him.
