View Full Version : SUPREME meetup, Ver 2.0

I say it's time we start thinking about another ultimate meetup (the results of the first one (http://forums.intpcentral.com/showthread.php?t=20088)), mainly because I didn't get to attend the first one. Off by a week, damn it A WEEK!
The list of locations is mostly identical to the first, though I've taken the prerogative to remove a few especially goofy ones (Sacramento? It's super close to me and even I still wouldn't want to show up!) and added two choices in Canada for our plucky brethren to the north. Sorry in advance to all the non-North American members.
I'd imagine that if this gets off the ground, it wouldn't be held for another 6-12 months, what with people needing to arrange for time off, scrap together the funds for a plane ticket, and just generally see if they can fit it in to their incredibly busy schedule of sitting in front of a computer and scratching their collective asses.
Oh, and the poll closes in two weeks, at which time we'll either completely forget about the endeavor, or I'll hold another sudden death poll with the top three locations, to be determined both by numerical vote and the coherency of any relevant argument. After that, we all climb into the Thunderdome to decide when to hold any meetup.

That's convenient for me, and relatively cheap. I just thought I'd throw the other options up there for the hell of it.

Why not St. Louis, Missouri? It's centrally located to the country. Where is my option to register a protest vote?
Edit: well, you did include Ottawa ... I guess that's close enough to a protest vote.

Actually, if you're obsessing over that issue, we should meet four miles west of Lebanon, Kansas.
As for all the complaints about this being a North America centric poll, I already apologized for that, so shut it. ;)

I appreciate where you're going with that, but I don't think Four-Miles-West-of-Lebanon, Kansas has a major airport or as many things to do as St. Louis.

filecabinet. As I said, except for the inclusion of the two Canadian options (and the removal of Sacramento, CA, and Jackson, MS, to accommodate them), this is the same set of options as the first super meetup.
Also, after the excellent reception (I love INTPs and all, but why do we have to bitch about everything?), I'm tempted to just say 'fuck it forget I mentioned anything.'

Oh, probably. Vegas is awesome if you're tripping balls on peyote (or so I hear). That town will do everything in its power to get you drunk and take all your money.
Have no doubt if you're under 21 and at a meet-up SOMEONE will buy booze for you. Just ask Anonymous.

And what, pray tell, would be the motivation for doing that? Being sober around four other sober strangers was bordering on awkward as it was, I can't imagine what it'd be like to be sober around a big group of drunken strangers.
Edit (Re Oso): Alright, so that is a good point. There wouldn't be any risk of getting broken up due to underage drinking, though, or is this stuff pretty private in Vegas?

Actually, I have a place in Costa Rica we could all crash (assuming it's not a huge number of people). It isn't near any of the real tourist attractions - not that Costa Rica is a big place. It's got a swimming lake, a waterfall, and we could go horseback riding, though. There's also a nearby soccer field, a gay bar, and a sports bar. And there's a brothel within about 20 minutes drive. Call me crazy, but I don't really want to meet a whole bunch of people I've (mostly) never met in a foreign country where I've never been and don't speak the language. I realize that it's my fault I don't speak Spanish, so I'll own up to that one; beyond that, it just seems like a fishy idea. I don't mean that I think any of you are going to turn out to be serial killers (except MacGuffin), just that yeah, it doesn't seem too smart to me. Maybe it's because I'm a woman and I don't feel like being kidnapped and sold on the black market or something. I dunno.

Fuck surfing, beaches, Atlanta, and places I can't drive to.
And New York.
And Hustler, last I checked, random island paradise you keep referring to doesn't have an in and out burger joint or drunken tourists I can make money playing poker with...

How about a meet-up in Snowbird? Little Cottonwood Canyon is awesome, and snowbird is my favorite ski resort in in Utah.

Nawlins - hotels, easy liquor, easy women. Plus you'll be helping the city's economy rebound from Katrina.
Or perhaps you all hate black people.
I don't mean that I think any of you are going to turn out to be serial killers (except MacGuffin)
Don't worry, I'll kill right before the meetup so the urge won't be upon me again.
Probably.

Supposing that I happened upon Las Vegas (poll prediction), how much would a trip like this cost?
Please fill out the following form:
Method of travel:
If flight, distance from major airport:
If land-based, distance from starting location:
Where do you plan to stay?
If hotel room, do you plan to share accommodations? If yes, do you mind sleeping on the floor?
If you plan to stay outdoors, can you hide yourself from thieves?
If on Hustler's couch, can you hide yourself from thieves?

A supreme meet won't be as successful or accessible as regional meets. The poll, and replies indicate that people are, for the most part, unwilling to travel out of their slice of America. It's unreasonable to expect east coasters to travel to the west, and vice versa. Travel within such an area, to a major metropolis, though, can be pretty cheap because of volume. Why not have a simultaneous meet in several cities? If you INTPs really wanna geek out, you could have a video conference. I could make it to Philly/NYC/Boston/DC, but anywhere else is simply out of my price/time-off range, and I'm sure most everyone is in a similar position.

These details are irrelevant, I guess. ;)

But I'm lazy, so I could do Chicago or midwest areas, too.

Also, despite not having had ice cream for about a year and a half before that meet, I now always have some in the freezer. :)
Las Vegas is pretty good for me (always cheap tickets), but I've got a lot of traveling I'm doing in the coming year. I'll see if I can spring for it, I don't have random 3-5 hundred dollarses just lying around.

We don't all hate crowds.....some of us are quite social........introverted means that your source of energy is internal not external and sometimes you will need alone time to recharge, but it doesn't necessarily mean the we are reclusive, curmudgeonly, or loners.
The only truly important things that you gain in this lifetime are your relationships with other people and they are the only things that go with you. Use some of your energy to broaden your horizons and make new connections.

Sorry, didn't mean to generalize.
I do know, from the few INTPs I've actually met, that at least 3 of us hate to be part of crowds...although I have to admit, I do really enjoy their company...

It depends on what you consider successful. I'd much rather have more people show up to one than multiple with less, besides if you had more than one would you really get more people showing up?
