View Full Version : Eye Colour Poll

Just a matter of personal interest... what's your eye colour?
I've found that within another group I'm a part of... it seems to be dominated by green eyes (I being one of them) which I find kind of strange for a rare eye colour to be so predominate.

I voted other.
I have a very strange eye color...
grey/green/blue with swirls.
If you were to stare straight into them, you would swear they were dead.

There are no conclusions to be drawn out of this poll though. Physical characteristics depend basically on your origins.

mine are either very very light blue or somewhat grey. They also have a tendency to be green from time to time :)

Sweet! Can you take a picture of that and show us? I wanna see!
My eyes are dark blue. My sister lucked out and got the cool sky blue color. Bummer. I think green eyes are the most attractive in women ... though I place much greater importance on what's inside (of course).
Edit: actually, there are other aspects of eyes that seem more important than the color, but I really can't place it. Ugh, you can look people in the eyes and get a very solid impression of what kind of person they are. How bizarre! As the saying goes, eyes are the window to the soul. Somehow.

Other, because green-grey, much like some cats, or certain shades of feld-grau.
Anyway you ought to have put grey in as a separate colour. It's very common in nordic countries. Sometimes slate-grey, sometimes pale-grey.
***
edit added: and black. It's got to be the majority of all eyes, ( whether you count in singles or pairs ).

Also, perhaps now someone can clear up something that has worried me ( not extensively, but niggling in the background like a whistling kettle untended to ) what exact colour is hazel ? There are certain things you assume you know since early childhood, so frequent the references, and then you realise that it may have been originally entirely misconceived in your mind ( like the word wretched, all my life I have felt it carried a heavy connotation of contempt, however applied, but apparently not, it can be used in pure pity ) and I vaguely felt it meant a goldish-brown.
Having realised that I had never seen anyone with golden-brown eyes, I suddenly saw I must have been always mistaken. The internet wasn't much help, since it described the colour as being the same as hazel-nuts, but gave no colour chart... I've never seen anyone with eyes like hazel-nuts either.
So what is it exactly ?

Brown. Not an incredible color, for I would chose pink or panda any day; but I think people like the size of my eyes and the length of my eye lashes. Speaking of my eye lashes, they fall off and get in my eyes every so often, the bastards.

My eyes are hazel as well, according to the Sherman Williams paint color chart.
This is actually the first time I've ever read about hazel as having a brownish tinge to go with the light blue/green, so I empathize with your concerns, Claverhouse.

I think it's easy for hazel eyes to pass for either a light brown or a dull green, depending on the lighting - people have thought I had brown eyes before when viewing them from a distance and/or in low or indirect light, but when I look at my eyes in the mirror, they're not quite brown - they're in between brown and green. If you were to simply classify eyes into "brown-type" or "blue-type," they'd be of the brown type, I think.

Now I'm beginning to wonder if hazel is just secret code for "I can't make up my mind what the color is".
Still, the brownish color does look neat also.

Blue
Green
Black
Yellow
Red
Silver

Now I'm beginning to wonder if hazel is just secret code for "I can't make up my mind what the color is".
People should've known that code when I was a kid and they simply couldn't figure out what my eye color was. Sometimes it was brown, sometimes green, sometimes blue, sometimes grey, sometimes somewhere in between. For a very long time there was "mixed" in the eye color section of my passport because no one was able to figure out what else to write in there.
When I grew older, my eyes became more clearly green. Depending on the light and my mood they're usually dark, pale or muddy green, but sometimes they seem dark brown or light blue. Now when I've dyed my hair red brown, my eyes look even greener. :D

I would call them "green" most of the time, but they change all over the place, so I went with "other".
Case and point I just took two pics, the right eyes looks almost brown, and the left grey green. I'll admit this is a first as typically they are on the same page they just don't linger on any one for long.
The only thing I noticed over the years about them it there is some sorta cycle that is bigger than my cloths or hair color (ie when I dyed my hair black they looked bright blue all the time) But the only piece of the pattern I have nailed down is this part, they will look really light blue for a few days, pale too the point that is catchs my attention, then go dark green for about 48 hr, then become grey blue, for a short while, being the lightest of all. Beyond this really dramatic part I haven't paid much attention to them, unless a bug or something make an unplanned landing in one.
oh hell my pic didn't upload, oh well, you can take my word for it now, I'll try again later............bed time now

Other - I also have swirly, no, more like flecky (flecky???) eyes which can look more green or more blue depending on what I'm wearing.
Once when I was in grade school someone asked me if my eyes were green or blue. I really didn't know so, like any good 3rd grader, I asked my Mom. She snapped at me: 'BLUE! Your eyes are BLUE! ALL of my children have blue eyes'. All of my siblings do in fact have unambiguously blue eyes.
If I have to check a form or something, I say blue. So as not to upset my mother.

what exact colour is hazel ?
I always thought that hazel eyes were ones that could switch between various shades of green, blue, and brown. For instance, my best friend's eyes are usually the color of the eye in the hazel picture, but when she's really angry or emotional, they morph into this very vivid green. It's bizarre because I'm used to my sister's green eyes, and they don't change color at all.
