*steps up the stage, nearly trips over her own feet*

Hi, my name's Ellen, I'm 17, live in Belgium (you can cover it with a breadcrum on the world map :) ) and have reason to believe that I'm an INTP (after taking different test endless times). Which would make this the ideal place for me?

A little about myself maybe: being just 17 still makes me a student (I'm starting my senior year in september), and I still haven't figured out what to study next. The choice's between political science and archeology (yeah I hear you, no difference whatsoever ;) )
I have very widespread interests, music being the only one to have lasted almost 9 years. I have been playing the viola for 8 years, the guitar for 3 years. I love movies, books, art, history, science, you name it. It all depends on my mood really :D .
oh, and my native language is Dutch, in case you were wondering :)

I have a great interest in world politics, so if you catch me having a opinion on something again, best to ignore it, because I change every so often lol.

I'm looking forward to having some good conversations here, so I guess it's now up to you to say hi back ;)

I don't know if I'll ever have solid political opinions either, so you'll probably fit in just fine.

Welcome. :)

Welcome ^_^

In my faintest dreams I also wanted to be a Political Science Major (when I was in High School), but I take it that I wouldn't be able to take it down where I am from (Mexico) so, so far...I am still just politics-interested.

well, ehm, now you're asking something...Well, if I stick to my present ambitions there are two options: either I'll be digging up some settlement in the middle of nowwhere, or I'll be busy trying to find my way in the political world :)
I do hope by that time I'll have found a nice partner, I'm an eternal single.

Nice to meet someone who thinks that, I spend most of my time justifying why I love it so much. ;)

The family of stringed instruments has shown its diversity and endured through many centuries of music. You are not alone by any means, though perhaps it might seem that way at times.

:D yeah I know, but still, finding someone so far has been very difficult, i just don't feel at ease in my own age group...

My best friend shares my passion, so I don't consider myself alone, it's just so frustrating at times, always trying to get people to understand that not all classical music is bad ;)
And those who do share my interest in it, are pretty hard to find, though I'm sure they're out there.

This is quite a good site for classical music:

Classical Archives (http://www.classicalarchives.com/)

Plus as a free member ( subscribers get more, 1000 per month, but my HD is so limited I can't take even any more midis for a bit ) you can take 5 files mp3/midis a day. The Wagner midis & some waltzes are all I've got so far, and considering that midis* always sound rather like Hammond Organs, aren't bad. Obviously no-one could ever listen to all they have, but it's useful.

* I always snap up any of 'Only You' & 'I Will Survive', of which there is a large selection on the web, they seem to fit the format better than most.

Yes, and good for practicing along with also if you use a midi program with an adjustable tempo feature like I do.:D

the painting's called "Impression, soleil levant" by Monet. I love impressionism, especially Monet and Van Gogh.

Of course impressionism is wonderful, but have you considered that impressionist painters were nearsighted?

You are not alone by any means, though perhaps it might seem that way at times.IMHO centuries don't mean anything: the piano is young, but that doesn't stop it from being the best instrument ever invented. (Sorry Ellen!)

Hi Ellen, welcome to the board! I'm also going to start my senior year in high school this fall, and like you, music is probably my only hobby that has lasted a long time. I've played piano since I was 5 and have no intention of stopping. I'll probably major in music in college, with a double major in a math or science-y type of thing. I love classical music as well. Beethoven's sonatas are probably my favorite compositions at the moment.

If anyone knows where I can find a good collection of free classical MP3s (the Classical Archives make you pay for most of theirs) please tell me. I don't like MIDIs too much. They're too mechanical. I want the real thing. (To be fair, I did find a good MIDI file of the first movement of Beethoven's Appassionata. But it's still nothing like my Rubinstein recording. That guy was incredible.)

Welcome to the board!

:D don't worry, I love the piano too, if I weren't doing two instruments already I would've chosen the piano. oh, and our house is too small to place one anyway, so...

hope I'll see you aound here! :hello:

Yes, the piano is also a very wonderful instrument! The piano was my first instrument also, but I started at the age of 8, not quite so young.

I'd recommend that you venture into either your public library or college library. Even for the college libraries, you will likely be able to get a card to check them out for a period of time... ;)
