Here (http://science.howstuffworks.com/five-forms-of-torture.htm).

I like #2. #1 would be great if played out really well. Everything else is so.. well, common. I wonder what the best types of torture are....

So hang them by their limbs and attach electrodes. Then hold a gun to their head with one hand and beat them with the other whilst fucking available hole. You get all 5 types in 20% of the time, That electricity really makes your balls tingle.

Most torture these days is pretty mundane. The really weird stuff from the nasty old days was generally intended to make for better public entertainment, not because it was more effective.

Psychological torture is always better than physical torture. Any idiot can beat someone, but really getting into thier mind and messing it up, that takes an artist.

Yeah... don't forget the blindfold... and add a lot of disturbing sounds in the background, just to make them wonder what the hell is going on...

Yes.... but what's the best way to get to someone's head? Particularly in the mock execution style they mention...

Mock execution sounds the worse, though one can only trick you one time, the second it will be less credible.

Mock execution is ok, but it's so short and temporary. There are lasting effects, but there are better ways. Why not plant people in thier cell, and systematically remove them to thier "executions" seemingly at random. Filter around fake newspapers with articles about a car accident or some other tragedy that happened to thier family and/or friends. Make them choose who is next to be executed. What's worse than a mock execution? Getting that person to attempt and fail suicide.

I really cant see why mock executions are such torture. It must be philosophy, I would simply say "want me to kneel for the bullet?", dieing takes a second. Its the prolonged pain that I would hate.

You know, we tell the world we don't torture. There was actually a memo where an "interrogation method [...] known as Palestinian hanging" is used by us. But it's not torture!

Yes, our own fucking government has decided strappado (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strappado) isn't torture. Despite being one of the favorites during the inquisition.

Idiots.

Incidentally, strappado's #2 on the list. What a surprise.

Its result is that the victim has no feeling of safety or personal agency of any kind.

Mock executions, making a victim unsure of whether he'll live or die or when, are very effective.

It's not at all effective at getting any useful information, but eventually, you'll get em to tell you whatever you want to hear. If they don't know it or you don't seem to believe the truth, however, they'll make it up. They may even believe what they're making up. It's even more useless than hypnosis.

The Pear of Anguish was one of my favorites. There was also the saw torture (http://www.medievality.com/saw.html). I also had a more modernized idea based on this for a future Saw movie, where the handsaw would instead be a band saw.

I agree, though, that while physical torture may be the most painful to watch, psychological torture is far more worse.

I also had some ideas for torture which I wrote in my MySpace blog a while ago.
