The reason you are so popular is probably that those who don't like you never say anything because they know NF's easily get hurt.

I can see your opinion because the poll is public, and based on your selections you seem to be a illogical hermaphrodite!

melancholeric
2 Mar 2005, 12:32 AM
That wasn't my honest opinion. Or it would have been, had she included every possible synonym for "hate" that she could think of, and any word and phrase that comes close. "finds her repulsive, disgusting, revolting," etc.

I wanted to express my opinion without disclosing my gender, I could never reveal such personal information about myself on a public board.

Furthermore, the only illogical option is "post more serious stuff" and "not post at all". I voted both, because I am somewhat undecided, although I lean towards "not post at all".

I will get a warning because of this... Hell, she wanted this.

And I love the way she made this poll public.

Ahh! But AM I popular? That is the question. Some say I am. Others say get lost.

How can I be popular if the majority are just holding back their opinions and they don't really like me?

Is THAT popularity?

I just want to know if the rumors of my popularity are grossly exaggerated or true. :)

By the way, with a public poll, you'd never get an honest response. (And no, this is not a suggestion to start another poll...)

Actually I made it a public poll, because I wanted honest responses.

Your meaningless, off-topic posts annoy me. I don't mind the occasional joke, not all my posts are serious either, but in your case I'd say the majority of your posts have nothing at all to do with the topic. Also your blatant flirting seem misplaced...this is a discussion forum, not a date line.

Then again, some people obviously like your style, so whatever. *shrug*

Oh rats! I forgot. I should have put in a "I don't care" vote. With all of the indifference here. I would consider a "I don't think she is popular" as a friendly, "what?", kind of vote. Just testing the waters since it comes up. AND trying to lower my popularity. AND trying to get more posts. AND because I'm bored. AND because I'm an attention whore. AND because I was hoping to flirt some more. Gee! No takers? I guess I am NOT that popular after all.

IF I were indeed VERY, VERY POPULAR then this board would start filling up with all the guys I've been flirting with saying, YEAH! We think she is beautiful, etc, etc,

Hmmm... So far, nothing, really.

To be honest, CC, you remind me of Morrissey (who is also a 4w3).
Really, really, really concerned about whether he is popular/beautiful/admired or not.
I am assuming this sort of thing occupies your thoughts all the time?
The fact that most INTPs couldn't give a rats what others think of themselves is where our differences lie I think. So.... it's just kind of strange to encounter someone who really puts such great anxiety and effort into wondering whether she is adored or not.
That's why we're all saying.... "Uh, just settle down, it's not worth worrying about".
Which is easy for us to say, but probably hard for you to do.
Intractable problem. Blegh.
FWIW, I think you're interesting and different, but it's not like in some idle moment my mind wanders to "WOW! That CC lady, she's just so marvellous, I really like her and I can't get her out of my head".
But maybe someone else on the board does think like this....

CC, it's so difficult for an INTP to understand how you put yourself out there like this. I think if one isn't used to you, your antics such as this one can be a little mortifying -- I think only because it's so very counter to our own instincts. Now that I'm more used to you, I just find it very curious.

Overall, I find your presence in this online community to be pleasant. I enjoy silliness (in moderation). But -- if I'm to be totally honest, I doubt I'll ever "get" you. For example, I must have read the explanation of your joke at least 3 times in NF humor vs. NT humor - I had to give up. Sometimes I have no idea what you're trying to say. Sometimes I get embarrassed for you, and yes, sometimes your apparent need for attention is overwhelming. And you definitely use too many emotcons.

When I was browsing one of your other recent threads (it may have been the attention whore one), I couldn't help but wonder what you get out of being here. I kept thinking, what does such an emotionally sensitive woman gain from associating with the most emotionally aloof of types? Though I'm sorry you got hurt (though I wasn't here), it's not surprising to me that you were met with some hostility when you got here. Not because you are an unlikeable person, just this is probably one of the toughest crowds you'll ever face.

I think ultimately what I'm trying to say is that I suspect you are a nice and warm person. I'm glad you're here. But most of us here are very different from you. And you should never lose sight of that -- you should never let our reactions here affect your pride and sense of self.

Hi S :D Haven't seen you in a while. I do agree that posting only for post counts is silly. I have never done that. I sincerely do not give a hoot about the post count. You don't see me stopping because I reached 1000 posts. I kinda hurried and went flippant to reach it because I wanted to get the crap overwith, so people couldn't say I'm just posting for post count. That is a purely INTPCentral, phenomenon. It's just the culture here. I really HATE the 1000 post thing and the obsession over the post thing, but that's this place and that's just the way it is. So I deal with it.

Yeah. My purpose for this is to prove I don't give a flip about popularity. I don't. I have only been myself. I post pics because I want to be more than just words on a page. Call that NF. I flirt, because it's fun. I prefer saying positive things to people.

Also, I just want to know, just how many people are really perturbed with me. Some people say I am popular and I don't think so. AND I don't think it is because I flirt. Others will tell me a LOT of people really don't like me here. So which is it? This is the chance to come out and say. Place your vote.

Or if you don't want to vote, it certainly is your chance to say what annoys you about me. If a LOT of people are annoyed, not just one or two, then I will change my behavior. If people are NOT annoyed then why change my behavior, just because one or two people are annoyed? So how many of you all are annoyed? If a number of you are annoyed, I will stop whatever the annoying behavoir is. That's all. I would like to know, once and for all. So I can either continue being myself, or put a sock in it.

I have said many times that I respect that this is an INTP board and do not want it to be otherwise. I am NOT trying to change it into an NF board. So, I'm just testing the waters, as I said.

So, your are annoyed, S. Okay. That makes uhh...four annoyed people so far.

The annoyance seems to come from 1) excessive use of emoticons 2) flirting 3) excessive non-serious posts.

I think she should post less fluff and more serious stuff.

But...gollee CC, I don't hate you, but that you don't understand how to recognize that INTP's have real preferences and that you don't try to adapt to them, since this is mainly an INTP board. I don't hate you at all, its just that your behavior could improve a whole lot. I have faith that you need to be here for some reason. But..

My honest opinion is that you need to take a deep breath and realize whats really going on. You can be liked a whole lot more if you relax and provide yourself the attention you are asking others to provide you. You are worthy and able. And I voted, I think she should post less fluff and more serious stuff.

Thank you s0523 for that well reasoned response. :D

Hmmm...Yeah. I do see that I am a lot different from you guys. I will get responses from jokes I make, that I think are obvious jokes and someone will take me seriously. Then some INTP will make a "stinging" kind of joke and I will take them seriously, when they were joking.

This IS a tough crowd all right. I've never seen such mud slinging in all my life . Heh! (feel like putting an rofl, but will refrain from emoticons). While I'm on the subject, refraining from putting emoticons, feels very inhibiting to me. It's like I'm just droning, if I don't add some all caps, or something. Where is the emotion? Eckk!

Actually, I really am not an attention whore. (or maybe I am?) I don't know anymore at this point. I certainly am not irl. But in writing, perhaps. On a forum perhaps. Don't know. I have mostly been posting on this and the INFP forum, actually. And I started on the INFP forum in September of 2004. Not a lot of experience with me and forumns. I have posted on others of science, religion, and sociology topics and enjoy the actual discussion. This forum with all of the chatty, one-line posts is just much more chatty. It's like a huge chat room. Do you think anyone will take the time and read through this? They would on the INFP site.

Okay, must stop blabbing. This is more the usual me, actually. What do I get out of being here? I get to see the differences between types. Or one other type anyway. I would love to post on other forumns about type, but uhh... don't know. I just really love type and I love seeing the differences in people. An INFP is a people person, but too quiet too really "get out there" and see a large number of people. An INFP is a people person, who is shy. Bleck! So I enjoy seeing how you guys react, and having this kind of conversation. And seeing that you just don't get my jokes. And that you don't think you will ever "get me". You see, I am just curious. I am very curious about people. I love Sociology and Psychology. Most INFPs do. I just am curious enough to put up with whatever to learn, to understand. Understanding is the cornerstone of an INFP. That is why I am here.

And where else to better learn about INTPs? Most INFPs would not stick around, IMO. So you don't have to worry, really, about an influx of INFPs.

Wow! Gee! Thanks Birdsnest. That was totally not mean. So the question remains. Do I try to fit in here? Or do I post as myself? If I post as an INTP, how will I know and understand the differences? I know this is my own little pet project. And I totally appreciate what you are saying. So, I guess the thing to determine is the boundaries. That's the same thing I keep thinking. If anyone (esp. an NF) was looking for a warm fuzzy forum, this would not be the place! You seem like a really nice person, CC, but polls such as this one are out of place. I think, in fact, that this silliness has run off a lot of the INTPs that used to post, which bums me out because I joined the forum in order to better understand INT types.

Seriously, would you rather be popular here because you were interesting and insightful or in that can't-help-but-look train wreck sort of way?

I will get responses from jokes I make, that I think are obvious jokes and someone will take me seriously. Then some INTP will make a "stinging" kind of joke and I will take them seriously, when they were joking.

I see a lot of NFs(?) doing this -- and usually it is the NF that is misunderstanding. The exchange goes:

- NF makes joke that NT doesn't find funny -- and not because we don't get it, but because we just thought it was stupid, or something along those lines

- NT responds in a mean fashion because they are a cold-hearted bastard

- NF thinks that the NT responded badly because they didn't get the joke, or didn't realize it was a joke, while in reality, the NT is just sick of hearing stupid jokes

- NT gets even more annoyed

I'm not sure if this is an NF/NT thing or an INFP/INTP thing or what though.

Actually, Miss Anthropic, this is all sort of in reaction to your posts. I do not belive you have mean intentions at all. But I felt very insulted by the comment you made about me and Songbird trying to increase our popularity by posting flirty comments. And I see you commenting on things I am doing to increase my popularity in a varitey of places.

It is you who is focused on popularity. You see I am not. I could give a rats ass about it. If my "populariaty quotient" has gone down then in the words of my beloved EZ. "Whoppty-shit" Also, I thought everyone knew I was an escapy from the mental asylumn.

Heh! Now you see what they mean when they say that INFPs will go merrily along until one of their values is violated. Then, all hell breaks lose.

So. Anyway. I don't dislike you, Miss Anthropic, and I don't think you dislike me. But you do seem keen on me and my popularity. So, can you see once and for all, that I do not do anything on here for popularity sake? It flies against my values and my grain.

I wasn't trying to be mean, and am actually concerned about your feelings (I'm not sure that comes across). I don't think you should change your personality to fit better, except maybe a few less emoticons. And I hope you don't stop making crazy threads like this one.

Oh! No! You totally did not come across as mean. I appreciate your response. :D

Ummm... Actually, I have notice you guys not getting each others jokes. I would say it is a common thing for one person to be joking and another to take him/her seriously. I see this often enough irl. So, upon reflection, no, I don't think it is simply an NT/NF thing.

Sometimes CC's bubbliness freaks me out a little, but I'm like this in real life too. Generally, I am not a very expressively enthusiastic person. I'm warm and kind, but not ... chipper. I tend to wish I had some sort of dial that I could turn down chipperness on.

But I don't consider that to be anybody's flaw. :) Just my preference.

Well, my good INFJ friend (did you see the pics of him and I in the mock wedding :D) are different in that respect also. He is not as playful and "baiting of people in a playful manner" as I. IT's the P/J difference I believe. Ps are just more playful. I play in an NF manner. The NTs play in an NT manner. There is no denying that there is a lot of horsing around, around here.

Both you and MM as INFJs are more "subdued* in the humor and teasing department which fits with my real life knowlege of my good INFJ friend.

Haa!!:D No, just trying to up my posts. Actually CC, I always read everything before I express an opinion, unless I say that I didn't (which is rare anyway). Three hundred above mine, what is that supposed to mean...? I am here ever since the board started, isn't it normal that I would have a high number of posts..?

I don't see any connection between this thread and the comments on the non-INTPs... this is not a "do you like me/do you not like me" thread, it is a "WHY do you like me" thread. So like I said before, I hate it, because if almost 800 people start doing that, we might as well turn into a "post your blog" board.

I posted loooongg serious posts stating my purpose and that I was INDEED NOT trying to get attention. I just figured if you had read those you would NOT be able to say what you did.

this is not a "do you like me/do you not like me" thread, it is a "WHY do you like me" thread.

Did you not read the poll? I put plenty of "I DO NOT LIKE YOU" choices on there. I put "I DO NOT THINK YOU ARE POPULAR" These responses are what give me doubt as to whether you are reading the thread or not. This is obviously NOT just about WHY do you like me. IT is AM I really popular? (because I have been accused of behaving as I do to be popular).

CC, as others have said, I appreciate the light hearted element you bring to INTP Central and would not want you to stop posting. I do resent your occasional tendancy to disrupt discussion with excess drama and superficiality or carpet bomb threads with caps and emoticons. Gee CC, we obviously can't communicate. Repeating myself for the third time is something I will not do (twice was already too much for me), either read again, or don't, I hardly care.... you don't like my opinion, frankly I couldn't care less - I don't express my opinions trying to be likeable.

Btw, Shai Gar started a thread to apologise for having offended people. I don't see the connection. No one said people shouldn't start threads (you've got to be kidding me), but what annoys me and what doesn't depends on the quality of the threads started first, and the frequency by which they appear on the second place. In any case, this is my opinion and I don't care who likes it and who doesn't.

I am not going to vote.

I do find it odd that you voted for yourself in so many categories.

I also agree with Vagabond that the board doesn't need threads like these. While I don't think we are at risk of being inundated with threads about how popular each person is and I don't mind a general thread about people you like, I find this thread a little abrasive. It's a little "in your face" and automatically evokes a negative opinion from me. This thread is about you trying to find out why you are popular, or unpopular. I don't think asking was the most honest way to go about that. Observation. Maybe a PM here or there might have been better steps.

And what if you aren't popular? Would it matter? Would you put your tail between your legs and head back to the INFP site. I doubt it. So this thread might be a bit insulting to everyone from that perspective because you are just using it to find out who likes you and who doesn't, which isn't what this forum is about.

Overall I don't find your posts incredibly relevent to the topics at hand. You do have your moments and they aren't even few and far between but often those are lost to long strings of emoticons, capital letters and punctuation. That's not to say that I don't like you or find your posts useless. It can be refreshing but I think I would also welcome less strings of capital letters and punctuation. I can hardly claim to be perfect but I am not the one asking the questions here. Maybe I should just say that when I think of you, it's not about a great post you made but about the wub emoticon.

Overall I like you. I think your positive attitude can be a welcome change on the forum. I think you need to drop the insecurity though. It's a little much. Who really cares what anyone else thinks?

After all that, I hope this thread gets locked because I don't think it's honest or fair to the entire membership (for reasons Vagabond already stated).

I take some offense at this topic, sorry. I know it's your way of doing things, CC, but please...

Now I'm getting the idea that this, fun as it is for you, and it shows, is not entirely who you want to be either. Surely you can be more than this. You may not be able to talk to us all about science and einsteins theories, but that doesn't matter because you can bring other things to the table. F-things. But surely, this orchestrated madness is not necesary.

I know insane people. This is not insane. This is what my sister acts like when she is extremely drunk. And she's an F-type as well. This is joy, fun, and sorry... you're kind of playing us for a fool. I don't believe you are the way you portray yourself here. You can do better.

I'm jealous when I see you get so much attention from this act, when I put a lot more thought and effort into my posts and I hardly go noticed. I don't like reading those type of posts. I think I would really like you as a person, but you have to start acting as one. I apologise for being blunt.

But listen. You have every right to act the way you want to. I recognise that, and I can place it. It would be terrible if you were to change your behavior because some people think you should. I merely think that this is what you have already done, and I'm pleading for you to undo this. If I'm mistaken, I'm sorry, and in that case continue being as mad as you can. As long as it stays out of serious discussions, it doesn't annoy me. And it seems to cheer people up.

And more than two people posted that I do affect this board a lot, and there is more than one person who would like me to post less. I wasnt' trying to go for specific details, just a general "feel". And I got it. So less fluff, more serious, less emoticons, less caps, but don't stop the postitive and fun stuff.

Haa! Uh.. gee, what language are you speaking. It was enough for me. I saw that 13 or so people out of this forum thought I should post less fluff and more serious stuff. And Sacanaka and I forget who, talked about being jealous about how I was able to do so much with so little. Interpretaion, I have affected this board more than I assumed when I started this poll.

I was under the assumpsion that those two individuals who were 1)talking about my popularity and 2) saying I am wrecking this forum, were wrong. I did NOT think I was that popular, and I did NOT see that I was affecting things that much.

So I put up a pole. I wanted to know the truth. Or at least more than two peoples opinions. And I got them. Mission accomplished. Now I know more how to handle myself here and what to do. It is very subjective and personal, but do you disagree with my conclusions?

Although I do not usually think like you, I can appreciate the content of your serious posts. When there seems to be no substance, I kind of just move on to something else. No feelings of being annoyed, though. I give you credit for being emotionally expressive despite the fact that many on this board are not.

I think the differences between you and me are apparent, but I see this in a positive light. After all, I have several NFs in my life. I could be wrong, but I see your atypical (for INTPs) posts as attempts to find and express meaning and insight, in the way that comes naturally for you. As long as you are writing in a manner that allows you to arrive at a deeper understanding of yourself, people, and the world, then go to it. If I'm not in the mood for silliness and lightheartedness, I'll move on to a more serious topic or get off the computer. Simple.

CC is (when she wants to be) one of the better logicians on this site.

She also doesn't have a mean streak (unless she's a wee bit tipsy).

Yes she can be annoying, but generally, thumbs up CC.
