I think we should have some sort of map or listing on the main site that shows each country and whether or not we have a member there.

It would be very cool.

Maybe it could even list the users in each country.

It would show how much coverage we have in each country too.

Cool, I like that :)

(You'd be all gathered up over there in the USA, while I'd be standing out over here in Greece... talk about uniqueness :D )

Seriously though, it is a good idea...

I think that's nice.

However 108 members* might be rather stretched in a great big world...

Still, go for it.

*Shouldn't we start vetting new applicants soon, so as not to get too big ?
:D  ;P =P

Good Idea.

It would also be nice if the indicators showed a user name.
Is there a program like this already? It would be a bitch for someone to have to make it on their own.

There are programs out there that let people put a "tack" where they are located on a map, I haven't seen one and a while and forget how it was done, the one I saw was only for the United States. I can't program one..

That is too fucking cool. Anyway we could host our own?

That's really, really neat, Melody. :)

BTW, if it's not immediately clear, make sure that everyone realises they can input themselves on the Map immediately by pressing the POST button there...

I may add this to front of the site but I'm concerned about the potential for abuse.

The pop-ups or the fish?

I just wanted to add that I was letting myself get distracted by watching The Journey of Man on PBS yesterday evening. It's purpose was to show how the human race is linked genetically, that we all stem from the same family.

I was thinking about this forum, how we are all scattered amongst the globe, Jung's ideas of intuition, and Campbell's ideas of mythology during the show. Neat, how the theories that connect us rather than divide us continue to survive in so many ways (not to mention technology and the actions of man). :D

I saw that too! was re-running over here a few weeks back...was that the one with the human body man? and he does all that wacky stuff around the cavemen like ask jokes and fly in his balloon?
and at the end it said we all came from that small family from africa.
Also i remember reading years back how e all come from 7 origonal woman and that all woman still carry a specific gene that shows which of these woman they come from and a test can be done to find which is your origonal mother.
weird stuff.

On that map-i was trying to put myself in New Zealand but apparently it does not notice when you scroll down the page while you are holding the pin and it put me in fiji or someplace up there twice-is there anyway to delete those two?

Got that taken care of (I think I deleted the right ones, at least.)

Six - that's goofy. Maybe the browser settings or something. Are you using ultramaniacal popup blocking? There is a dialogue that pops up and tells you to click the location where you want to place yourself.

Yup thats the right two you got rid of. it shows me in the wrong part of New Zealand but i dont think anyone will notice the difference, its just an island to everyone else.

I'm not sure if mine worked. I tried once but got it in the wrong place, deleted it, tried again and it wouldn't show up. It should be slightly southeast of Div.

Melody, is there any way for me to get my "pin" removed from the map now that I've posted it?

Melody

lol, that paranoid? I removed the email. Did you want your pin removed also? That last sentence is confusing.

k, done. I hope you feel even better, traitor. The Rosenbergs can barely match you with the levels of traitoring you have sunk to. *puts a band aid on the deep knife wound in his back*

A new thread
bella (http://www.intpcentral.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=12858#12858)

asks where each is situated. So why not make this thread stick, or a new official stuck thread in the Introductions section, and make it clear that it is compulsory for new members ( and so far recalcitrant and negligient members who have omitted this rite ) to pin themselves in Melody's Map ?

Then we will know where we are.
