excuse me one second. i pay taxes (well, sort of - i do admittedly get paid under the table) and i vote, and i just want to know why the fuck Canada is spending $12 Billion (over 5 years) on our military? Who wants to fight Canada and risk the wrath of our big brother? Why else do we maintain ties with the US? It certainly isnt because of a shared political view... (Kyoto Accord - need I say more?)
Wouldn't that money be better spent on healthcare? Or education? Or repairing the damage done by US pollution?

I see it now, goose steppin' maple leaf wearin', "eh"ing Imperail Canadian(ien) StormTroopers pouring across the border during the Super Bowl when our whole nation is watching the cool new commercials.
..............I had this whole on going storyline of the brutality of Canadain imperailism, and such but I just remembered the South Park guys sorta already did this, so it seemed sorta lame all the sudden.
edit-wow I didn't realize that since I was in TO last they torn down all the factories and that the cars on the QEW all are fuel by solar cells now!

A nation that does not even pretend to defend itself is no nation at all.
Now, I would like to see a much, much different kind of Canadian forces, but my criticisms are levelled against the spending strategies of our military, not the fact that we have one.

What does it tell you that the US is the only G7 not to sign Kyoto? To me it signifies that America is unconcerned with global warming. why should they be, when the other developed nations can take care of things? I'm not suggesting Canada could or would attempt an attack, I'm simply suggesting that if you remove American military muscle from the equation, north america becomes a parasitic relationship.

They bailed on Kyoto 'cause oil money ruins (funny typo, I meant "runs") Washington, really simple.
Forgive me but how does anyone's military matter at all in NA, no ones fired a gun here since our stupid Civil War in the 1860s (not counting the Spainish-Am in Cuba) It is all about greed baby, your greed, our greed, the Chinese wantingto be like us. etc etc Money makes the world go around, but it is gonna send it str8 to hell in the end!

Clearly money is more important to the US than a world to spend it in. I dont think that's a bad position to take, either, I believe in living in the moment. Maybe instead of sacrificing a few more species/lakes/forests, America could cut out a few tanks/troops/guns. You raise a good point when you mention that nobody fights around here - America got smart and took its wars abroad.

You are confused, they aren't cutting down trees to build tanks, they cut down lives and sacrafice education, people's health and lives to spend money on war.
It is sick and twisted, but now that I think about it a bit more, everything you and I enjoy (this idle free time for example) is build on the blood ,sweat, tear, and in our case the land of someone else. Humans of all nations behave like brutish animals, that is the sad point at the heart of your rant. Pity us all.

Washington rhetoric says that not fighting injustice promotes injustice. By that same logic, not fighting pollution and the destruction of the environment is the same as supporting it. So drop your bombs and stick your hands up the many asses of your puppet democracies, but dont tell me that spending $$$$$$ on war has nothing to do with being 'unable to afford Kyoto'. Since when does Canada have a bigger bank-roll? Especially after we pay for health-care...

When you typed: "You are confused, they aren't cutting down trees to build tanks, they cut down lives and sacrafice education, people's health and lives to spend money on war." I assumed that meant that spending $$$$$$ on war has nothing to do with being 'unable to afford Kyoto'. please clarify if thats not what you meant. i'll check back once my brain has recharged.

I was focusing on the human side of it, hey you aren't the only tired zombie posting semi-BS around here :P
I am just being bothersome, I don't have a point. I am just cynical nihilist, everything is lacking and falling short. There is no justice anywhere, I doubt there every will be.

I remember reading an article some time ago to the effect that the US ambassador to Canada was urging the Canadians to spend more on their military - so that Canada could help defend North America.
The analysis of this ludicrous notion was simple. Most Canadian hardware was of US origin, therefore US arms manufacturers would benefit etc, etc, etc.
It seems that the warporations( new word coined by a friend meaning companies that manufacture arms, profit from war or the threat of it) are in something of a golden age.
Military budgets around the world are increasing seemingly since Bush took office.

INTrloPer is correct. i am pissed with my government for not following canada and japan into the kyoto protocol.
america could afford health care and environmental safety, but it prefers to fuck up life for the rest of us

what did we do to Oz?
I said it before and I'll say it again the US commits enough REAL sins, why do you have to create these hyperboles!
Futhermore open your eyes that the Western capitalist system as a whole works the same as America, it is merely that her current leader is gruff and unrefined. France was only pissed cause they were making $$$$ in Iraq, lets get real. This is all about greed ,nobody gives a fuck about freedom, trees, or peace, just dollars, yen, euros and oil. If you want to tell yourself that some how the retarded leadership of the US has made the world the place it is, you give them waaaaaay to much credit, now are they making it WORSE yes, but it would be a mess no matter what. And you as a white male at-least middle class citizen of an industrailzed nation are as guilty as all the rest of us.
sidepoint, we have healthcare here, in fact when the super rich and world leaders are in need of care, note where they often go, anyone in Clevland (dull as hell don't go unless your sick) can tell you that the airport often sees the private jumbo jets of various Middle East royalty going to the top medical services there.
one last point I have been to OZ a few times and I find the people are typically really cool, secure and laaaaaaid back.

and you invaded us with your bullshit macdonalds, hungry jacks and other american garbage
we are secure and laid back because even the poorest of us has a great health care system. and the english all come to australia for health care because the waiting lists are short as shit. and it is australia who keeps inventing new medical shit, like spray on skin for burns patients
