By focusing on the strongest configuration of cognitive processes, your pattern of responses most closely matches individuals of this type: INFP
By only focusing on the cognitive process you identified with most, your pattern of responses most closely matches individuals of this type: ENFP
If this is different from what you know of yourself, you might consider why your developmental pattern does not align with your type. You might also consider exploring this type as a possible better fit.
Your Developmental Curve
This model produces a 'developmental curve'. In theory and according to research, people develop simpler less-sophisticated aspects of cognitive processes more often than they choose complex more-sophisticated aspects.

Your self-assessment curve: 5
A value below 0 means you identified with simpler aspects more often than sophisticated ones. In contrast, a value above 0 means you rated more sophisticated aspects more highly than simpler ones
Basic and Developed Use
Each process can be engaged in a basic, unsophisticated way reflecting our natural human capabilities. Almost everyone can engage each process in some basic way.
Beyond this, some processes can be engaged in a more sophisticated, developed way. This is usually the result of innate preference plus lifelong growth and practice, which equals development.
Development is not the same as 'skill' since use may still be awkward. Also, when we pursue one area, we may necessarily neglect other areas until a later time. This may include shutting out basic use of a process.
Synergies
The cognitive processes do not play out in isolation. We often learn to engage two or more processes together in productive ways. What might seem like opposing approaches at first can become complementary and synergistic. Synergy may also indicate we are using a developed process to compensate or "cover for" an undeveloped one.
Based on your responses, the assessment results are a 3-color portrait:
* Green indicates basic use.
* Blue indicates developed use.
* Red indicates synergistic use with other processes.
Remember, "basic" does not mean "lesser" nor does development imply "skill." Many times we rely our preferred processes in a basic way on a moment-to-moment basis.

Its more efficient to take a print-screen, copy into xnview (or whatever fast-graphics-job program you use), save as GIF and attach.
I did the test before and it said INTP / ENTP || (Ne/Ti/Ni/Fi) so there seems to be a noticable variability to the results.

Feeling way too lazy to post any data. My top two processes were Fe and Ni, placing me as an ENFJ. I think that my job has a whole lot to do with how I answered the questions, because I have to use Fe a whole lot more in that context (even though sometimes I wish I was just not at all F because I think it can get in the way and make me less effective).

would it matter if you typed yourself in the morning and evening (when your tired?)
i got two jobs and i act (i am) different in those two jobs.
its not that im not unstatisfied with the outcome. but i have my severe doubts on any typing system. anyone have an explanation of plasticity of type? and what is caused by it?

I found the test difficult to take. The questions weren't always condusive (lack of a better word) to me. As well, there weren't a lot of them so, I wonder if that would have evened out with a larger sample.

I thought the same about the questions, and even left comments about it (which I rarely do). I'm staving off a conclusion for now because of the small sample, but I did think the consistency of the Ti Ne for most INTPs was worth noting when compared to the complete break down after that. Perhaps one problem is that the boundaries between the introverted and extraverted function questions aren't defined well enough.

Lenore Thomson says an INTP has Ti, Ne, a mix of alternates, Si, then Fe. Fe would be at the bottom, and the unused functions are in the middle.
Others say otherwise, but I haven't been reading many other books lately to lay out any others' thoughts. :\

First four are primary and second four are shadow...... I think the first one basically says what type you are (dominate) and the second one is the one you share traits from maybe...it wsa like that for me I got a infp (what I am) and a enfp (I have some traits from that type) maybe everyone might have traits from that second type...and I'm going to try to find a one with more and see if the results change.

Interesting, I'm just starting to get a clue about these functions so this was very useful BUT:
Can anyone explain a)what the developmental curve is supposed to mean (mine was a 10! seems extreme, but extremely what?) and b)what the difference is between the two ways of determining what type your test corresponds to?
The whole green/blue/red thing isn't clear to me either. What does it indicate to have no green in a function? That you can't use it for 'basic use' or that you don't need to??? HELP!

I am guessing the self assesment curve rates to what extreme you rated yourself. More modest answers (varying little from the center) would result in a lower self-assesment score while more radical answers (those to the extreme left or right) would evaluate as a higher self-assesment score. That is my guess...

I don't understand this curve, or this self-assesment curve, very well. Can somebody who knows more about MBTI explain to me what the difference between the green, the blue and the red block is, and what the self-assesment curve means?

Your Developmental Curve
This model produces a 'developmental curve'. In theory and according to research, people develop simpler less-sophisticated aspects of cognitive processes more often than they choose complex more-sophisticated aspects.
Your self-assessment curve: -9
A value below 0 means you identified with simpler aspects more often than sophisticated ones. In contrast, a value above 0 means you rated more sophisticated aspects more highly than simpler ones.
I guess I'm extremely simple! Now THAT'S disappointing!

I really liked this one. I've always had a little bit of a problem with the cut-and-dried theory of the MBTI on this particular point. It seems to me that someone with a really strong N, like myself, might use the Ni function more than, say, the Si or Fe function, even though according to the MBTI the Ni function isn't even supposed to exist in my mind. (Yes, I know it's more complex than that. But the "shadow functions," I feel, have always been underaddressed and underexplained in typology literature.)
Anyway.
Ti:
Green - 4
Blue - 24
Red - 21
Ne:
Green - 5
Blue - 21
Red - 17
Fi (surprised that this was third):
Green - 1
Blue - 18
Red - 13
...shit. I closed the window by accident. Anyway, I was INTP by both methods of measuring, and my development curve was 3.

Exactly. Miss Padfoot. That's why the Lasagna theory of type is far superior and less complicated than the shadow function one.
This is the best type test by far. On or off the web.

Interesting. The INTP function order should be Ti Ne Si Fe, but I don't think an INTP has yet posted Si or Fe in their top 4. I see a lot of Ni and Te and a couple Fi and Se in the 3rd and 4rth slots. *ponders*

MacGuffin helped me a lot in this issue. He provided me of something that was of great value.
Many of these aspects are new to me.. I only wish to clarify the issue.
From the intp standpoint: which is the order of preference? Including the 8 of them?
Something here does not fit the overall picture.
Maybe it is me: I have not seen what I should have seen.
Or maybe not. I do not know.

Anyone else thinks I 'm an INFP?
Most INTP's tend to have Fe as their weakest process, and so do you. I can assume that is because Ti automatically win out over Fe most of the time. That brings me to my next point.
An INFP will have Fi as their main process, but, because a lot of people tend to develop the opposite orientation of their primary process to a moderate level, it will tend not rank as last or second last. Therfore, if you were an INFP, your Fe would be developed a little better.
I think that you're definitely an ISTP with perhaps some FP tendencies.
Why an SP and not an NP? You have a poorly developed introverted iNtuition. INTP's tend to have a moderately developed Ni, but a poorly developed Si. Of course this all depends on certain things like the mental state of the individual in question, but these are tendencies shown by most individuals. Unhealthy or very balanced individuals may show different tendencies.
Edit: Actually, I added the function 'points' together using a simple method to compare I/E, S/N, and also checked by using a weighted method to add function 'points' for the strongest functions vs the weakest functions. And you're definitely an INFP according to that formula. Mulling it over, I would have to concur somewhat.
I'm curious. Is purity of character something that you strive for?

Thanks for the analysis, mate ;). As for your question, yes, I do strive for purity of character. And I also strive for INNER PEACE. I have always felt very messed up inside and have been trying to find ways to purify my soul, so to speak. But, whatever it is that I start believing in, it always ends up as just another blind believe that can't prove shit nor help me find my way. I kinda feel disilussioned, disappointed and abandoned of everything that comes and goes in my life. And that's the way I 'm starting to feel about MBTI and type theory in general. I start to question myself whether all of my faith and efforts invested in this theoretical cycle are any worthed... But then, I was the one arguing that people shouldn't do only the things they benefit from... Go figure, as some would say.

I got the same result with almost exactly the same percentages as you. I don't think it works for me, either. Some of the questions were awkwardly worded, in my opinion. More than once I found myself thinking "Well, if they mean X, then I'd answer 'exactly me,' but if they mean Y, I'd answer 'not at all me.'" I'm sure that just reinforces me as a sensor, but dammit, I think tests that are supposed to numerically measure your responses to statements should at least have unambiguous statements, to cut down on interpretive differences. Otherwise the results are pretty much toilet fodder.

Of course I feel responsible for others' feelings -- I have a husband and son now, and so I tend to them and to my husband's family. Duh. Things like this obviously skew my response towards "F".

But aren't you just being more "F" then?
Personally, I don't think that's a bad thing at all.

Retook the test. I got ENTP, and the Fi process was only about half as high as Ne (not equivalent like last time), which probably means that my INXP phase is starting to end (Yay!).
The new format really blows. I liked seeing their interpretation of developed and synergistic use rather than just one rating per process.

What I don't get is the much higher Fi! Maybe I have developped it over the last few years since I took the MBTI though.

Your result is as any result should be. Maybe it means that you paid attention to the questions. It is not so with the others.

It looks roughly like my old one, but, my Ni and Fi switched in this one, and my Si dropped all the way to the bottom (my Te also dropped just a hair and ended up below my Se). Not sure how that could be, so I suppose I was in some odd state of mind, misunderstood or otherwise misanswered questions on one of the two. Here's the old one:

Interesting. The INTP function order should be Ti Ne Si Fe, but I don't think an INTP has yet posted Si or Fe in their top 4. I see a lot of Ni and Te and a couple Fi and Se in the 3rd and 4rth slots. *ponders*
If Fe is the fourth, how come it is at the bottom? The eighth one is at the bottom.
This is not the function order.

Hmm. I like this test. By associating Fi with identity, rather than a necessarily illogical, anti-T entity, it doesn't force a T/F dichotomy. That is still a very highly developed state for what is supposed to be a shadow function.
[Edit: Blah - that's my 4-wing showing itself.]
My Fe is sulking at the bottom.
My Ne will occasionally flare out. It's currently at its "normal" setting, I think.
Corresponding best-fit temperaments based on your profile: Rational; secondly Artisan; then Idealist; and lastly, Guardian. How do you think they pick the second choice? It probably fixes the Ti as the dominant function, which leaves only ISTP as an alternative. I happen to agree with that order.
Finally, we may get ourselves into trouble when we don't use a process at all.

Bleck! I was hoping I had developed Te to some degree. It's my fourth function and I'm old enough to have started on it. I don't even care about Si. WTF is that? Who can understand it?
I took this before, but I didn't really "get it" then so I thought I'd take it again. I got the same results:

Summary Analysis of Profile
By focusing on the strongest configuration of cognitive processes, your pattern of responses most closely matches individuals of this type: INFP
Lead (Dominant) Process
Introverted Feeling (Fi): Staying true to who you really are. Paying close attention to your personal identity, values and beliefs. Checking with your conscience. Choosing behavior congruent with what is important to you.
Support (Auxilliary) Process
Extraverted Intuiting (Ne): Exploring the emerging patterns. Wondering about patterns of interaction across various situations. Checking what hypotheses and meanings fit best. Trusting what emerges as you shift a situation?s dynamics.

The standard MBTI order (Fi, Ne, Si, Te for you) isn't the same as a strength development order. It is, instead, what are generally your top two and bottom two functions.
That said, I don't know that we ever really develop those functions to the level of our primary functions (it's said we develop them through life, but never really to what extent), just that we develop them. It might be interesting to compile all of the data in these test results, at least for those who state an age, and see if patterns emerge for primary and inferior functions.
From the MBTI site:
It is generally believed that the dominant generally develops up to age 7, the auxiliary up to age 20, the tertiary in the 30s and 40s and the inferior or fourth function at midlife or later.
From this, unless you've been mummified and are much older than you look, you're probably still working more on the tertiary function. It's convenient that our types share a function, though a one-to-one analysis probably isn't very valid, my Si fluxuates and isn't really going anywhere, it's also about half as strong as yours.

Lol! By this test you are INFP. :D
But, I wouldn't put my stock in this test. It's the only one I know of that gives you a rundown on all eight functions though.
Anybody else know of a test that tests all eight functions?
I was analyzing it as I was taking it, and the premises of the questions were not neccessarily correct. But it's a good start.

Yeah, I posted earlier in this thread, basically the same thing. Some of the questions were too open-ended to truly measure anything, and some of my answers are probably informed more by my life circumstances (being the at-home parent to two young children) than by my true inner self, if the two can be separated.

Yeah. Being a mom can certainly bring out the SJ in a person. Most SJs I know are very parental. When I babysit kids, I act just like my ISTJ mom. You really have to. You have to set rules and limits.
And a full-time mom, can really lend itself to you loosing your own identity. I've certainly have done that, without having kids.

Yep. I've had to find an identity to hang onto, since I was 22 when my oldest was born and hadn't really figured myself out (as if I have now). It was so easy to subjugate into that role, and pin all my self-worth on how well I cared for my baby. (Ubermothering, as I now call it.)
But that's a subject for another thread! Or not!

introverted Intuiting (Ni) (37.2) excellent use

Fi is my "fourth best" function, after Ti, Ne, and Ni.
Go figure.
Not sure how much I agree with the middle scores, although Se is definitely last place for me.

That post shows my scores. I didn't list them by percentage though. Here they are:
Cognitive Process Level of Development (Preference, Skill and Frequency of Use)
extraverted Intuiting (Ne) (48.7)
introverted Feeling (Fi) (46.6)
introverted Intuiting (Ni) (31.2)
introverted Thinking (Ti) (30.3)
extraverted Feeling (Fe) (29.2)
extraverted Sensing (Se) (27.2)
introverted Sensing (Si) (15.6)
extraverted Thinking (Te) (11.6)
So, Ti is a close fourth with Ni. Hmm...interesting. I tend to agree with this, though I would put Si before Se (I guess, I'm just now getting into the difference between the two) and Te is definetely last.
It seems that Fi and Ti tend to run in fourth position for INTPs and INFPs. (need more stats)

hmmmm, I'm not that surprised as I've often considered the possibility, because I'm quite sentimental and prone to get hot-headed. I don't think it was a great test though, so I'm not taking it particularly seriously, because primarily I prefer to take data apart to figure out how it works, rather than group data together based on how I feel about it - when I'm talking with NF's, I find I look at things in a different way to them, when I'm with INTP's, I feel that although I can't identify with the detachment and calmness of a lot of people, I do fundamentally analyse things in the same way.
PS - I credit PtGatsby for that definition of Fi vs Ti.

By focusing on the strongest configuration of cognitive processes, your pattern of responses most closely matches individuals of this type: INTJ
Lead (Dominant) Process
Introverted Intuiting (Ni): Transforming with a meta-perspective. Withdrawing from the world and focusing your mind to receive an insight or realization. Checking if synergy results. Trying out a realization to transform things.
Support (Auxilliary) Process
Extraverted Thinking (Te): Measuring and constructing for progress. Making decisions objectively based on evidence and measures. Checking if things function properly. Applying a procedure to control events and complete goals.
If these cognitive processes don't fit well then consider these types: ENTJ, or INTP
Could I possibly be ENTJ? I would clearly think of myself as an introvert, but I find myself exibiting certain traits of the entj profile and the Te/Ni order would suggest that too.

This is all rather peculiar, since I was talking to a friend tonight about my abhorrence of D.I.Y., and how just ten minutes of doing handiwork stuff gives me a feeling of utter boredom and exhaustion, despite my good manual dexterity! Having to force my brain to focus on details and concrete stuff just drains me like nothing else. This was after earlier today being criticized as 'lazy' for paying somebody to strip the wallpaper and floor in my kitchen, paint the walls and put up some shelves. They're all things that're well withing my range of dexterity and experience, and yet I've hated doing them so much previously that I was willing to part with a lot of cash to escape doing it again!

Actually, I took it again and I'm submitting my results. You will see the first result and directly next to it, I've typed in the second results. They are very consistent. I scored ENTJ or consider INTJ. This doesn't surprise me
because in my earlier years, I always scored ENTJ especially when managing people. I no longer manage people so I'm back to being an INTJ. I get along great with INFP friends.

You know it's amazing how many INXPs there are. It's why I came over here in the first place from INFPGlobal. Because of the INXP's over there. But, the difference between INTPs and INFPs and the two forums are so vast. It seems amazing that one can be confused on the T/F scale. But... they are, and they have been 100% male, from my experience so far. I've started many a thread about the "T" socialization factor of males.

Someone should develop a special test to determine T/F for the INxP. Questions should be answered instinctively, without thinking ahead of time:
1. A woman complains that her boyfriend abuses her... but she loves him, so she doesn't want to leave him. Gut response: What should she do, and why? [Say the first thing that comes to mind.]
And so on. The key is "gut reaction," no thinking involved.
Or offer two answers to the question, and ask which answer the testtaker thinks is more annoying, gut reaction once again.

I'm not sure about the cognitiveprocesses test; I've taken it about three times and had different results each time, not because I was acting in different ways but because I kept changing my mind about what they meant by the descriptions of behaviours, and by the quantitative terms. What I got this time was

I think this underestimates my Ni in particular, because the little questions that measure Ni tend to be presented in terms of epiphanies, mystical insights and fortune-telling, which I find off-putting and can't answer affirmatively to.
Also:
But... they are, and they have been 100% male, from my experience so far.
Hahahaha! I busted your model!
I think I might be INTJ, though, because of the Ni factor.
ETA: I tried this, though:
1. A woman complains that her boyfriend abuses her... but she loves him, so she doesn't want to leave him. Gut response: What should she do, and why?
Umm... If he really is abusing her, then she should leave him, even though it will probably tear her apart to do so.
If she really loves him, then she won't wan't him to be in that sort of position, because it isn't good for him either. Leaving him could be the action which is truest to her love for him.
Does this come out T? Or F?
I think a special INXP differentiation quiz would be a good idea, because a lot of the usual T/F questions are framed in ways that can appear problematic. That old 'justice or mercy' one, for example - I'd say that real justice has to be merciful, and real mercy has to be just.

Great. I'm not sure... How much did you think about the answer, and what did you feel when you provided it?
I guess I am seeing the limitations of such a test, since a posted answer always comes across as more detached/impersonal, whereas seeing your body language and voice (etc.) if someone pops the question to you in real-time would be much more definitive. Plus, I am tempted to read and reread and analyze your answer, thus giving it more "T" flavor.
Still, I'm leaning "T" for your response. I think an INFP would feel more outrage (abuse is wrong, even if other factors are involved) and express it with a more emphatic answer, being less worried about describing all the nuances, whereas an INTP is more prone to delineating all the possible nuances of the situation and be more hesitant to commit to a particular piece of advice... the latter of which is more what you did.
I think a special INXP differentiation quiz would be a good idea, because a lot of the usual T/F questions are framed in ways that can appear problematic. That old 'justice or mercy' one, for example - I'd say that real justice has to be merciful, and real mercy has to be just.
Well, I agree with that last thought. Still, people lean one way or the other (for example, I know that I have justice as my baseline, but it is heavily laden with mercy -- because justice is not fair if a blanket punishment is applied to everyone.) Just like with our primary two functions, one takes precedence, and the other supports it.

and the question about "do other people's stories of trouble affect you" annoys me - sometimes tey do, sometimes they don't. What I don't know is what the "normal" reaction to such stories would be - for all I know, I could be much more affected than most people, or much less affected.

People with introverted Feeling, Fi, however, will deliberately choose to listen to music which helps them change and improve their mood. INTPs could never do that.

If these cognitive processes don't fit well then consider these types: ENTP, or ISTP
p.s., best analogy for Si is they have file folders, and if new info won't fit in one, they discard it. not surprisingly, they tend to be quick, if not good, decision-makers.

It's just a test, and you're still in the ballpark.
What do you think, personally?
(And compare yourself to other ENTPs, like digest...)
One typical indicator is that ENTPs are notoriously restless compared to INTPs. They hate being confined to a cube. The one I work with now doesn't shut up and talks to everyone, even if you're not in the same cube with him. (Last week, I actually yelled AT him across the room from MY cube, telling him to shut up... He wouldn't stop singing stupid TV theme songs.)
And the one I used to work with would leave his coffee mug all over the office, in a different person's cube each day -- it was a running joke.
An INTP, on the other, is either very low-key friendly (will make the rounds but never intrusive) or downright reclusive and hates to come out of the cube.
As chatty as I seem here, I have a really bad reputation with my coworkers for never coming out of my cube or going to lunch with them.

Had not thought about those words being so confusing before, but justice is inherently fair. Blanket punishment, assuming some members of the punished group are innocent, could never be just. Distinguishing the innocent from the guilty isn't merciful; it's just. Mercy involves bending the rules for the guilty.
The question works; you just have to really know the definitions of the words.

-----------------------------------
Did you notice that Fi, the ESTJ's inferior function, came out as the second most developed function behind Te? Did years of heavy Te use, create a sense of what is important and works in the person's environment to eventually develop a substantial Fi?
Note that the Ti and Ne scores are relatively low compared to the other functions, but significantly used nonetheless. Rational, constructive conversations are possible, but access to the arcane is usually denied to them. The scores are well-balanced overall except for the N functions and particularly the trailing Ni. This person does indeed, from my knowledge, lack imagination and creativity, and is unarmed when facing the abstract which does not seem directly and clearly applicable. To compensate, this ESTJ has learned to rely on her very acute and earnest understanding of role and responsibility in a given framework of rules to produce and interact very efficiently, but to the expense of a lot of sacrificed energy.
This person's behavior is far from being similar to an ESFJ's but the F functions are highly developed. It really seems that the F side grew to counter-weight to the domineering Te.

You're nowhere near being INXP. Your results are typical for INTPs. It's not that surprising that INTPs score higher on Fi than Fe, since Fi resembles the primary process, Ti, to a some extent (not in what data is being processed but in the general approach).
Did you notice that Fi, the ESTJ's inferior function, came out as the second most developed function behind Te? Did years of heavy Te use, create a sense of what is important and works in the person's environment to eventually develop a substantial Fi?

That, or the person has allways had a substantially developed Fi. Maybe he was born with strong Fi or maybe his parents nursed it and helped him develop it as a child. Maybe a particular long term relationship demanded it and his need for the relationship to work, made him work on himself and his Fi.
No matter how much he developed his F however, there's no way he'd start to resemble an ESFJ. The primary and secondary functions is all that counts type-wise. The strong F would only make him seem like a gentler, more balanced ESTJ.

Summary Analysis of Profile
By focusing on the strongest configuration of cognitive processes, your pattern of responses most closely matches individuals of this type: INTP
Lead (Dominant) Process
Introverted Thinking (Ti): Gaining leverage (influence) using a framework. Detaching to study a situation from different angles and fit it to a theory, framework or principle. Checking for accuracy. Using leverage to solve the problem.
Support (Auxilliary) Process
Extraverted Intuiting (Ne): Exploring the emerging patterns. Wondering about patterns of interaction across various situations. Checking what hypotheses and meanings fit best. Trusting what emerges as you shift a situation?s dynamics.

Taking these results... I wonder if its possible to take them when you understand which questions relate to which function? Your bound to get skewed results surely.
Also considering how society always go on about how you should try and understand yourself more to develop better in society, I can understand why INTPs or any other sort of type might have a well developed Fi function. I also believe heavy introverts develop Fi more naturally, but I'm not entirely sure.
What would having Ne and Se as the lowest represent?

That you are a J. Seeing how your Si is dominate (as in your score. it does not necessarily mean that it is your main function), you will have Fe coupled up with it. So you are an xSFJ.

That's how I would read it.
I found the high Fi trait interesting as well. I wonder if that means there was some consistent solitary time in the past, where Fi would have strengthened because it was necessary to develop... (?)

While I'm not sure whether I actually possess high Fi as suggested by the test.
Its always seemed to me that Fi was a function for introspection and intrapersonal skills being developed. Or would I be completly off here?
I just thought it was important for a person to know who they are, and what they want. Something that I wasn't really good at... so I started trying to understand motivations behind my own action and such.
Theres one thing that has been bothering me about the functions Fe and high introversion. Surely if one is highly introverted, there is a chance that their Fe would be much lower?

ENTP or INTP/ESTP
So that's what i got.
Would I be correct in assuming that most of the people here are completely unaffected by anyone else's results to the test? I mean it seems to me that, considering the fact that INTPs, as will ENTPs, will argue a point to convince themselves or to organize their own thoughts more than to get the other person(s) to believe them. Of course an ENTP is much more likely to try and convince other people, and to get them to agree with them, but often, I've noticed, even ISTPs and ESTPs will talk to other people, more to organize their own thoughts than to push them into others' heads. (SPs are more likely to convince someone that they want to do something that they do not, in fact want to do, but the SP wants them to do, as I'm sure you all are well aware). Granted, it's not true ALL the time, and it's far more common with the intuitors, but it's just something I had to question. For me, and this may be the lack of extraverted feeling which caused this, but I was completely untouched by anyone else's score. It could also be the half-use of extraverted thinking. Whatever it is, I'd be willing to bet that there are more people who posted their scores and didn't read many other people's then there are people who read most or all of the posts.
For those of you who actually do read this drivel, does anyone here suppose that these things can be developed? I personally think they can. Like practicing an instrument or drawing or typing faster. When I was a youngster, you wouldn't catch me dead listening to music. Well, of course not - dead people can't do anything, much less listen to music. They're fuckin' dead. I mean, whenever I was in music class or in the car or anywhere I was exposed to music, I covered my ears. Often to piss the teacher off in music class, but also because I had no interest in it. I saw no conceptual value in it. Plus, I couldn't tell a G from an E or a snare drum clap from a bass drum kick. They sounded the same to me. I drew a lot, but it was always crazy ideas I didn't have the means to create. Or a monster. A few times I drew monsters 'cause I wanted them to come and eat my teachers and parents so I could go live at pizza hut and throw nickels at old people passing by. But it was always stuff I had an idea for, but couldn't create. Never for the enjoyment of drawing shit. Then, I sort of gave in. I began to appreciate music, about 5th grade. I think that's when I started using extraverted sensing. Also, on a sort of humorous note, 5th grade is about the same time the hormones start kicking in. I wonder if the fact that the girls were beginning to develop breasts, and the fact that I was becoming interested in girls had anything to do with my easing into the induction of extraverted sensing into my artillary of functions. At this age, 18 years (that's 18 trips around the sun and 18 times I have to go through yet another humiliating birthday because mommy and daddy are both goddamn mother-fucking SJs for those of you who don't think about that shit) I play my guitar quite frequently, and often disregard the concepts like electromagnetism, acoustical properties of air and steel, the difference between single coild and double coild pickups, why we don't have triple coild pickups (I always wondered that) how I could make pickups that pick of different adjustable signals from each string.. y'know stuff like that. Often while playing I don't think about that stuff. I do however often catch myself having completely forgotten that I was playing while delving so deeply into conversations or debates about why jello is similar to the liquid crystals found in LCD monitors or how submarines could be made of wood instead of just steel as most people think. I often wonder if some of these functions are just catalysts for other functions. I mean sensing would haveto be a route to intuition right? You can't intuit without first sensing correct? You see something, THEN you start thinking of the possibilities and the future. I mean, at some point, every bit of knowledge has to come from some sensory experience. I think that happens to us every day. At least to me. Now where I'm going with this is another question so get ready. Do you think that for some, extraverted sensing might be a doorway into intuition? Or thinking or feeling for that matter? For example, I do think of things other than my guitar, while playing guitar. Either that or I'm practicing. I do the same thing when drawing now. Sometimes a random doodls is just something to occupy my hands with when thinking about what's happening as a result of the media's ever-expanding influence on kids especially. That's a topic I might start a thread about, because I'd like to hear some input on it. I've had enough digressions here and I'd like to go to bed, but I wonder a lot - sometimes while playing guitar or drawing or listening to music - if my fellow intuitors might be thinking about where the economy is going according to the latest stock reports or what they might say in their job interview later that day while dancing or painting. Or what if some of these people aren't thinking about the football game they're in? What if their focus is actually on Einstien's General theory of relativity while they're running down the field knocking players over, making their way to the end-zone, but somehow, the positive effects of extraverted sensing, which obviously are to trust the immediate instincts and act based on the immediate context are still there? I wonder if that's concrete or abstract. The fact that it's happened to me, but wonder if others do the same thing... I mean concretely, I HAVE done it. But in the abstract, I wonder if other people do it a lot. Whatever. I don't expect anyone to reply, or even read all of this. It's just everything that I thought of in the past fifteen minutes. In fact, it's just me trying to organize my own thoughts, the same thing I was outlining in the beginning. I am curious to anyone else's insight/foresight/knowledge/theories, and that goes for anything I've laid down here. Any response would be appreciated and scrutinized.

Wow. Now thats what I call a brain dump. :)
Anyways, arguing points you don't *really* believe (in the hopes that something will 'click') seems to be an NTP thing, ENTPs are more vocal about it.
Lack of Fe? Maybe in development, but not always in use, ENTPs are typically known as the most emotional of NT's. Fe affects emotions, as well that it is a function which constantly needs connection and is careful of the needs of those in its environment. I know an ESTP male who can be quite emotional -- at some degree they do use their Fe quite a bit, but its not in the most mature capacity ever. Often an ESTP will twist the truth to match their own needs (including yes, Fe needs), I'm not sure its this way with an ENTP, but Fe does manifest quite a bit regardless -- it augments the ENTP's extraverted ability, sometimes double-teaming with Ne.
As far as extraverted sensing being a doorway to intuition, I might have to disagree there. Extraverted sensing and introverted intuition go together, yes. As does introverted sensing with extraverted intuition (think the SFJ 'fretfulness'), ones superior is the other's inferior. An SJ might consistently use Si in a strong capacity whereas due to the brain wiriing and nature of the Si function, it will automatically be paired with Ne. Exceptions are possible of course, but that's what usually happens. The SJ who introverts sensation often does not have use for the 'here/now' sensation seeking style of the SP, nor the intuition of time of the NJ.
Its amazing that you can play the guitar while pondering the general theory of relativity. I don't have the bandwidth to do that sort of thing, but I do a lot of thinking while walking from place to place, such as how trees might be simple when expressed in multiple dimensions or how data processing and brain engrams work. And other meaningless drivel.

To the obvious intellectual with the awesome wolf for an avatar,
(I don't feel like learning how to make quotes on this just now so I'll do it the old fashioned way this time)
I think you're right, but I personally think that while functions do naturally go together, I don't think that they have to. Much like the fact that while the "extraverted" rationals aren't REALLY extraverted. They can but, but often are just as rude or unfriendly as the introverts of any group. It's hard to know. About the thing where you couldn't play guitar and think about that kind of thing: I think that's the difference, or one of them, between introverted and extravert NTPs. One is much better at multitasking, and the other needs time to think - y'know the frequent switching on and off between reality and the internal mind. You have to separate things more than I do. Nothing wrong with that. All that means is I can be playing with - or breaking - shit with my hands while I think or talk. Also, I think in my guitar playing I'm comparable to Ynwie Malmsteen, not because he's good... he is, but he knows it and is a real prick about it (intj by the way) and I wouldn't say that I'm that good, but in that he has practiced to a point where he doesn't have to think abotu it anymore. He just can sit there and play and hold a regular conversation without concentrating on the guitar. I don't know about hte validity of his claim, as I've never seen him do it, but it seems feasible. To be honest though, I never really practice. Or if I do, it's not very organized. I might just be thinking about something and a cool lick comes out and I practice it until I get it then I go on thinking again. I'm beginning to think I ought to retract that statement about Se being a doorway to intuition, even though I think it still could be. At some point, you have to sense something. But I think now, looking back over my playing career (if you could call it that) my playing is more like just something to occupy my hands with. Where some people pace around thinking, or think while they drive (kinda scary, those ones...) I play my guitar, using it simply as something to be doing instead of being dormant, like an introvert would. But I udnerstand where you're coming from and the premise uner which you make your claim makes as much sense, at least to me, as my own. I did begin to outline the fact that it might just be an occupier of the body but almost dismissed soon after.

And I think I say "I think" too much.
Maybe I'll throw in an "I figure..." or an "I suppose..."
Or for something a littlre more jazzy, "You wouldn't happen to agree with me if I were to say I was under the impression that..."
If you don't get that, it's because you don't listen to music. Or you don't listen to jazz, or you only listen to jazz and have nothing to compare it to.
Any other ideas?

Hmm now that I think about it I can multitask if I let my feeling/percieving aspect take care of playing the guitar while my thinking/intuitive side is engaged in thought. Its just not really possible to focus very hard on more than one thing at a time, but after you become good enough its remarkably easy to play and think at the same time. It's helpful even, just like pacing. Even modulating some things like the chords to match thought patterns and moods. I know if I just sit and think, or try to focus sometimes I will get a lot of internal noise, but if I am multitasking things sometimes become clearer.

Yeah, man. That's why it's called extraverted intuition. Since we're thinking types, the extraverted part, our intuition, needs to be actively involved in things, but not necessarily people. Of course, it doesn't work the same with sensing. Only with intuition and thinking can one be extraverted without actually being extraverted, according to the traditional definition. That's why I was attracted to this system. It makes use of the functions as they are individually, as opposed to how they are supposed to be. I really don't think that there are rules as to what functions can become dominant in a person's mind. Did you notice both of my intuiting factors came before both sensing? Both thinking came before feeling too. And it's not like I gave the thing erroneous information. I truly tried to be as honest as I could. Unless I misunderstood the questions or the scale is reverse on a few questions or something like that, I have to say that the test was accurate. I mean, honet answers seems to me ought ot yield honest results.

LOL, this girl I know who is a psychology major seems to think that I'm an INTJ, but I always test out as INTP(except for the very first time, the most honest test?). I even put my picture on this other mbti site and they labeled me INTJ or INFJ, but not INTP. I guess that I'm just an INTJ.

Hi, i just found this forum, since there was a question on a forum(some special sport we do)about mtbi results corresponding to the sport. Most where intj, mine was infp, so i did some research, it felt okay at first. But there was some tings that didnt fit when i looked more into it. Specially the anti-conflict and compassion to humankind.
I took 2 more tests(74,yes,no questions, just different words then the first test) since my characteristics wasn't typical on the infp forum i read trough last night, and the new came up intp(so more research..). But if i went back and tweaked a couple of the questions i was unsure of, it changed to infp again. So my result seem to be abit random, how i understand the question.
The test here was difficult for me to understand the questions(used a looong time, so i think i got it right). And i answered mostly yes and no, so i guess thats why there is so big difference between the numbers.
Results..trying to understand this. Haven't reedited my infp answer in the sportsforum since i feel its a 'nicer' personality, so even if its not right i think i'll let them think so, just for the fun.
Comments? Someone who can make something out of the numbers below?

Introverted Thinking often involves finding just the right word to clearly express an idea concisely, crisply, and to the point. Using introverted Thinking is like having an internal sense of the essential qualities of something, noticing the fine distinctions that make it what it is and then naming it. It also involves an internal reasoning process of deriving subcategories of classes and sub-principles of general principles. These can then be used in problem solving, analysis, and refining of a product or an idea. This process is evidenced in behaviors like taking things or ideas apart to figure out how they work. The analysis involves looking at different sides of an issue and seeing where there is inconsistency. In so doing, we search for a “leverage point” that will fix problems with the least amount of effort or damage to the system. We engage in this process when we notice logical inconsistencies between statements and frameworks, using a model to evaluate the likely accuracy of what’s observed.
It is often hard to assign words to the values used to make introverted Feeling judgments since they are often associated with images, feeling tones, and gut reactions more than words. As a cognitive process, it often serves as a filter for information that matches what is valued, wanted, or worth believing in. There can be a continual weighing of the situational worth or importance of everything and a patient balancing of the core issues of peace and conflict in life’s situations. We engage in the process of introverted Feeling when a value is compromised and we think, “Sometimes, some things just have to be said.” On the other hand, most of the time this process works “in private” and is expressed through actions. It helps us know when people are being fake or insincere or if they are basically good. It is like having an internal sense of the “essence” of a person or a project and reading fine distinctions among feeling tones.
which one do you use more often? (it doesn't matter which one is more developed)

hahaha.....yes. I'll admit that was pretty ridiculous. The shit hit the fan and sprayed all over the place, hitting many members of this site as well as several other people. I was having a VERY bad day that day (like every other day) and there was really no other way for me to vent than to be extremely childish and indiscriminately attack a bunch of people online. As you might have inferred, I'm not that great at dealing with/expressing my emotions. If you believe in cognitive processes (which I don't), then I suppose you could attribute it to a "poorly-developed Fe". Or you could just say I've got issues.
...but hey, this is better than going on a killing spree, right? :)
