View Full Version : Psychologists are studying INTPc?

Do you think psychologists are studying us? Are we all being analyzed right now and added to a current study on INTPs? What type do you think they could most likely be? INTP's themselves?

Do you think some of our posts have been powerpointed onto a big screen in front of a class of 2000 people learning about MBT theories on some college campus somewhere?

Maybe if psychology cared about MBTI in the first place.

I seriously doubt anyone gives a shit about us. Which is fine, because the (lack of) feeling is mutual.

There, they can start with this post.

We took a MBTI test in psychology 100 where I went to college

No. There's way too much statistical noise to draw any generalizations on INTPs.

There's also the matter of the reasons that people discover the forum and become members of the community being both too varied and not varied enough.

So between the functionalities social networking, support groups for mental disorders and early midlife crises, journeys of self discovery, the catering to the Forer Effected, general misanthropy... This becomes, effectively, a muddled grab-bag that doesn't offer the right consistency to be worthy of study.

So you're safe from that. However, if your internet handle is already being stocked by a psychologist...

See. Most of them think MBTI is outdated and that the big five inventory is much more useful. To them showing 100 level students MBTI is like showing first year physics students newtonian mechanics, while it has it's uses is regarded as outdated.

I prefer MBTI, but psychological researchers in general don't.

What Rhu said. It's possible that these forums could be studied for some reason, but I can say with a 99% confidence level that they would never be studied for the MBTI content.

Seriously. I mean, what if some of us are just lying about our MBTI type to fit in? On some other sites I claim to be an ISFJ.

I suppose this would be as good a time as any to let you guys know that I'm really an ESFP.

Well with MacGuffin being an ENFJ and all, I'd be surprised if anyone on here is actually an INTP.

“if your internet handle is already being stocked by a psychologist..”.

What they got people on hooks in cold storage????

Damn Rhu-ster, you must be pecking away half drunk huh?

If you need me to translate?... Trust me, more than happy to oblige.

TRUTH is: the shrink community is VERY interested in MBTI type and Jung’s 8 Cognitive Processes.
MY shrink IS monitoring this forum.!!!!

There is a big Nature /Nurture debate in shrink land right now, with many ready to toss out the DSM-IV diagnoses because a lot of “symptoms” for depression and BPD just happen to be apart of the INTP profile.

No offense Rhu-ster, but you should leave the call about “way too much statistical noise to draw any generalizations on INTPs.” As per offering “the right consistency to be worthy of study.” To the folks with the alphabet after their names.

Happy to return the assistance!

Nonsense. You simply have to know a little bit about how to manipulate data (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selection_bias#Participants) to make that call.

Wow, you are gonna try to school me with a dictionary explanation of bias????

heh, you are the embodiment.

still you need the give the shrinks their due, they know how to filter out when someone decides to "introduce a little anarchy"

the petiful fact is we are all SOooooo predictable regardless of how smug we act.

heres knowing you!

INTP's might generally not be good in lying. But that doesn't help here, does it? Actually I'm highly surprised someone would fake to be another type...

I knew I was not the only person with these things in mind, but every time when I am here it's like : "Are you reading my mind? Because I am reading yours"

This post did not take enough time..

Who needs psychologists coming in to study us? We study ourselves just fine.

And what quantitative data (I mean, that is all they'd realistically get from online research) would they garner?

I did a small interview-study on introversion here (and a few other things I can't remember) a while ago. The raw data's still floating around in the archives somewhere, but I don't remember it being particularly interesting or enlightening.

Edit:Here. (http://forums.intpcentral.com/showthread.php?t=24248) (actually, now that I look at it, it seems I was trying to connect INTP to Schizoid personality disorder)

Right, but I don't mind if there is a study, and if there is any then sharing the result will be fun, just as Ghost-Girl did.

I suspect there have been more studies than we realize. However, sharing the results with the specimens may cause a deviation from normal behavior and throw off the study. Well, unless such is a part of the study. "What happens if I hold up a mirror to the cat so it can see it has built-in electrodes between its ears?"

I think they would find that a lot of SJs think they are INTPs, lately. It's getting on my nerves and pretty soon I am gonna make a fool of myself by calling people out.

Most of the psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers I know have never even heard of MBTI.

Surprised that nobody has as yet owned up to being one of the psychologists studying the site.

Come on, surely there're a good deal more INTP shrinks out there.

I just found out that, in 2009, the government will start secretly killing all the mentally ill people.

Run, little friends, run!
