View Full Version : The Transient-Pulse Theory of Industrial Civilization

A few months ago I either heard or read about the transient-pulse theory of industrial civilization (also know as the Olduvai Theory). To me it seems plausible. It reminds me of the Limits to Growth reports produced by the Club of Rome back in the 1970s.
Any thoughts on this?

I find it a strange coincidence that he chose 2012 as the starting year for the final phase.

Could well be true.
I fear for my survival.

I'm not sure what to believe about the 2012 stuff. A lot of it appears to be a bunch of New Age mumbo-jumbo, though the Mayans were obsessed with time. I read somewhere once that a Mayan calculated the day of the week of a particular date 4 million (I think) years ago and a computer program found the calculation to be correct.

It's probably generally correct. Exponential growth is unsustainable in a world of finite resources, current world population is unsustainable as well without cheap access to fossil fuels and the free work they provide.
The exact timeline may not be correct as there are many variables that cannot be acurately predicted.

Nuclear Energy, both as a power supply and a means of depopulating undesirables, destroys this hypothesis.

No, it doesn't.

Yeah, everyone knows the world is gonna end in 2012 anyway. The London Olympic committee know this and just wanted billions of pounds to piss up the wall and go out with a bang.

Congratulations, that's the most sinister thing I've read all day.

I read an interview with Terrence McKenna in which he said that he was unaware of the 2012 Mayan prophecy when he calculated the Timewave Zero stuff. If that's correct it's an interesting coincidence (or is it?).

Quite a few "theorists" are touting that number. Recently peak oil has been attached to it. If its close enough, why not? It sounds more dire if the Mayans had a date picked out too.

Great, I'm gonna read about this theory.
I used on solitary walks to imagine for 2012 a breakdown of everything and rise of a new world where people live of the land, where finally everyone can have their real value. And where the current time would become what the myths tell about...
