NASCAR is probably the fastest growing spectator sport in the US. While I do enjoy auto racing in general, I just fail to see the special appeal of NASCAR. Indy and Formula 1 racing is just so much more graceful and thrilling in my opinion. Where I live (Great Lakes area), NASCAR seems to be solely a lower-class white interest only. Not one of my friends or relatives is a fan. When I lived in Atlanta, I was isolated with other Northern transplants who held infinite disdain for NASCAR. It seemed, however, that the demographic interest is a bit wider done South. (I had to drive through Alabama the day after Dale Earnhardt died.) So I pose y'all the question of what y'all thing about NASCAR.

It doesn't appeal to me either. I dont have any stigma attached with the fact that it's a redneck sport. It's just not interesting to me.

I don't care for any race whether by machine or on foot that involves going in circles for more than 20 minutes.

I think participating in a race would be fun, but not watching it.

As long as it doesn't go in circles for 20 minutes, I'm fine with it.
(Literal circles, not metaphorical ones!)

Like baseball and golf.
Believe it or not, I actually enjoy watching golf. I went to the Ryder Cup this year and it was very exciting. The match last week was great with Tiger and Phil going down to the wire in the final pairing. It's such a cerebral game and I love watching the players thinking about their next shot.

Yeah, I've never understood how southerners can both love an exciting, thrill-packed sport like American football and a dull, mind-numbingly hypnotic "sport" like NASCAR at the same time.

Having played golf, thinking about the next shot and executing that shot are two different things. Makes it seem less cerebral that when I think of it that way.

Yeah, that is why so many people get pissed off when playing the "sport" of golf. The split between mind and body is probably nowhere more evident when it comes to hitting that perfect shot. There's a nice feeling of satisfaction when one does hit a good shot, though, that balances out the crappy shots if one doesn't have an exaggerated self-confidence in one's sporting abilities, which describes me. I've found the same thing in bowling, a "sport" which I am much better at than golf.
Both sports are boring as hell to watch on television, though.

I've always disliked NASCAR...you can catch all the wrecks on a 30 second segment of the news, as that's the only thing exciting about it. The only car racing I really like to watch is Rally racing. Now, those guys can drive. Plus, I get to listen to guys speak with accents. It's like a language lesson and entertainment all in one, lol.

There must be someone here who actually likes NASCAR. You're among friends so you can admit it. We won't make fun of you - too much, at least.

Perhaps it's not an INTP sport. Perhaps it's not an Intuitive sport at all.

I can't be entertained by people driving around in circles. It just isn't fun. All they do is make left turns. I'm sure there is strategy in the sport but I don't watch it long enough to know.

NASCAR is a sport that appeals to the herd mentality - I don't understand the draw.

For some reason I can hardly ever get movies to play on my computer.
I felt bad for that guy who got paralyzed, but sometimes they fly into the air and skid across the ground, and then hop right back up.

I must say that I used to go to these stock car races at a local 1/4 mile track. It was a lot of fun because I knew one of the drivers and helped him with his car. At the end of the night, they did this "figure eight" racing where there was an intersection one had to pass twice on each lap. That got wild. I'm surprised that I never saw a driver get hurt.
Also, demolition derbies are very cool.
