This is our foreign policy in a nutshell; "We're fighting them there, so we don't have to fight them here." Good luck to the people over "there", as long as they don't try to come over here why should I care?

The fact that this gets no replies means no one cares. :p

Actually, people do care-- see the various other threads on WOD and similar issues...

I'm personally not outraged, I find peoples indifference facinating. We as a society say we care about all kinds of things, but in reality we only care about self interest. Human nature? I suppose.

War on Drugs is a joke - or more correctly stated - a campaign to turn citizens into revenue for those that want it (all while using people's beliefs against the targets).
EDIT: Follow the money - it leads to the truth.

I think we live in a rather individualistic society in America. This country has been founded by individualistic core beliefs such as the puritan work ethic and carried over from England a history of ignoring those who are marginalized (e.g., English Poor Laws). Moreover, a policy, issue, or program's perceived benefit and impact influences attitudes toward certain civic engagement issues...and based on psychological/physiological science, our attention / memory have a finite number of 'slots' hence, priorities needs to be defined across the vast amount of competing interests / inputs....
Bottomline, our country is currently focused on the economy, healthcare, and Iraq/Afghanistan wars. Unfortunately, until these issues are addressed, issues such as the 'war on drugs' would have to take a backseat. We like to keep it simple here in the US of A

I agree with the thrust of the first paragraph.
I think the second is a cop out, next year there will be new distractions, and new reasons why our society can't be bothered to think about the blood on our collective hands.
