View Full Version : Screen Names
ohnoaninfp

I was just curious about the screen names everyone picked. I wanted to know how you guys came up with your screen names and why you picked them. I chose ohnoaninfp, because it was funny. A friend of mine suggested that I should join INTP Central. He is an INTP. I was probably going to call myself P51Mustang2004, but it is annoying typing that name out. My friend was only joking when he suggested ohnoaninfp, but I thought it was a good idea, since I am an INFP and I tend to be a little crazier then him. :D ;P Thanks for a cool name. You know who you are. Anyways what is the story with your screen names?

Fire Choice really has two different histories. Fire describes a driving soul or force in my opinion, or something that is skilled are powerful, perhaps even damaging. I've also used Cat in conjunction with Fire. This was years before I used choice. Cat comes from "a being that is sleek, quiet, dangerous, and independent. Although FireCat has been known to have a sexual connotation, I have never thought of it in that way. I also used 03 behind it. Zero three simply because it implies that I'm not the first of something, but I am not totally independent. Choice, comes from the belief that Fire should be choosen in life and that I am in control of myself.

I was reading a forum where a thread about my comic was started. I decided to jump in and defend myself. I like music, and it was clear "Melody" was not taken because none of the types of people in that community would have thought of it.

I was looking for a nickname some years ago to use online and well, when I *try* to use thinking first and intuition later, I usually fail... so I had given up, I was going to use a previous (stupid) one my sister had suggested, and then this just flashed in my head... and it was a suitable one...
To clarify: it actually flashed in my head in english; which kind of made me wonder at first where it came from, since it was actually a greek community I was joining and I am greek anyway... weird, but I guess there was a purpose for this, as well ;)
Back when I first got on the web I was learning to program. So int (as in integer, a variable to be declared in many programming languages, fit). I was also wanted a name that kept me anonymous (I'm paranoid  ) so I became Mr. Int E. Ger.
It stuck around all these years and I use it on a few other forums. The irony is coincidental, and I felt kinda silly registering it here (...again...) but I've got nothing else. Oh well.

HackerX
13 Aug 2004, 04:56 AM
Somebody called me hacker in a computer studies class many a year ago. I had just done something particularly amazing (I have no idea what, I don't think it was particularly amazing) and somebody said something along the lines of "fucking hacker" (I believe we we're studying computer security at the time) and it's stood since. There was a bit of a debate at the time, somebody said "he can't just be 'hacker'" so somebody slapped an X on the end. Thus...I've been HackerX for quite a while now

I shared an account with somebody by the name of david on another site, hence the conglomeration of my name with somebody else's (flan short for flannagan of course). I got used to flan2dave being my internet name, so I kept it here.

Birnam
14 Aug 2004, 01:05 AM
I was creating an alternate identity on some site or other and for obvious reasons couldn't use my regular screen name again, so I pulled a random book off my shelf- it happened to be Macbeth. My favorite part of the play is where Macbeth hears that the forest of Birnam is coming toward his stronghold, which news ultimatly throws him over the brink of insanity. So Birnam = don't mess with me or I'll come to your castle and make you go crazy...
(Oh, and I have this thing for Tolkien and the Lord of the Rings, and an avenging forest fits perfectly :D)
BritainOphira
14 Aug 2004, 01:41 AM
I was bored one day when I happened across a random name generator, typed in my name and Britain Ophira came up. At first I used it only as a name for my character in a serial farce of Algebra I that some of my friends and I were planning on writing, but I liked it so well that I kept it for use as a screen name.

adamjaskie
18 Aug 2004, 03:05 AM
Well not very creative, but here it is:
Back when my family got AOL, (eew) I created myself a screenname. It was limited to 10 characters, so I took my first name (Adam) and the first six letters of my last name (Jaskiewicz) and so came up with "adamjaskie". Then I set myself up a Yahoo email account, and used the same name. I have just been using it for everythign ever since.
jimkopelli
18 Aug 2004, 03:18 AM
Well... Jim is my first name, and I've always thought Kokopelli was a cool character... and this other forum I'm in was being screwy when I first tried to join, so it stole my first attempt (kokopelli) and ate the password, so the usename was effectively blocked... so I tried jimkopelli later when it worked. I've been the same name on almost anything I join now.
Star Cannon
18 Aug 2004, 03:21 AM
Ohh boy.
I got Star Cannon from my fiction press account. But to come up with star cannon... I thought about who I was and what I was. A human right? An individual. Or something along that line. Morelike a modification of my 'magic' name. But since I was aiming high for the quality of my writing, I shooting for something -- literally. So therefore, Star Cannon.

Someone picked sktfrkr for me a long time ago, but I never liked it, and so I decided to change it. I was looking through my network analysis book one day when I saw a unit of measurement "candela" and thought it was cool sounding. So I changed the name I use for just about everything to that. Later I found out I was pronouncing it incorrectly.
So, because it sounds kind of cool.
Johnny
18 Aug 2004, 07:16 PM
I wanted to use a name that would allow one to easily imagine a human being so that whatever I posted or claimed, it would be easier to attribute those words to a real person. I think this encourages a greater sense of sincerity upon others.
Plus, John is a very popular name and Johnny is a nickname for a one who is young or perhaps not yet wise. I think this encourages people who buy that to be even more sincere and open in their responses...and I am one who is interested in them.
There it is.

I should have completed my thought because it just states two facts without proving anything.
It probably depends on how instrumental the commanding officer was in victory before he was put out of action.

I'm English ( but have all four British types as ancestors Eng/Irish/Scots/Welsh [ + a few others ] ) & I'm a legitimist monarchist: people who aren't legitimist monarchists are the one's who are rebels*.
Nationality means nothing to a monarchist; Race means a little to me; but having the correctly appointed King means all.

So let each Cavalier who loves honour and me
Come follow the bonnet of Bonny Dundee.

I read a book about the Cornish and one of the characteristics they are known for (other than mining) is their preference for working alone. Now, for my nickname. I do mediation and employment resolutions for a living. I went by the handle Mediator268 since 1997. However, after discovering MBTI, and that I was INTP four years ago, I decided to change my nickname to honor my type, yet maintain the meaning. Thus, I came up with Interposer (INTrPosr).

We don't actually think of the Cornish as different, just a minor gaelic group like the Bretons...
Anyway congratulations. Apart from their later sad lapsing into evangelicalism like the Welsh, they had a brilliant record fighting for royalism.
Nowadays Cornwall is dying somewhat: much the same as the rest of Britain as far as shopping/cars/life is concerned, but with the lowest wages: not helped by the aging involved as thousands of older folk retire down there ( as in Florida, but with a lower standard of life ) in the delusive hope that it will be warmer there...

Well, my screen name comes from an obscure source.
A few years ago, I used to make modifications to a game called C&C: Tiberian Sun. You did this by getting a file called rules.ini, which controlled the properties of all the in game setings. One of the settings you could add to the units in the game was a cloaking effect, which hade the setting 'cloakable='. I thought the cloaking effect was pretty cool, and decided to make it my screen name.

But we all here try to pronounce words entirely differently from the spelling. It annoys everybody else.

The Spear of the Adversary
In Judaic/Christian/Islamic mythology "The Adversary" was also known as Satan, and as everyone knows, satan let knowlege into the world and that is what took away humanities innocence (and according to christians, is what the devil uses against mankind) so the spear of the adversary is knowledge. Alternatively, it could also be a title for someone so unspeakably evil, like Tamaluke hence the mongolian aspect of the translation "Gar" to the english "Spear" back in the old days spear was used interchangably with arrow, and ghengis khan's armies often used the composite bow against their enemies. and i myself am a fine archer with a compound bow.
But really it is a name i created for a character in a game i designed. I liked the name so i designed a story around it.

s2zeitgeist - S2 engine from Evangelion because zeitgeist was taken. zeitgeist I found in the dictionary one day, german for time ghost, and also means the spirit of the age. Though it sounded cool and had a cool meaning, and has been my online name since
buddyholly697 - my friends idea, because no one can say my last name (Badiali) they just say buddyholly, which is close the actual pronunciation is body + ollie.

I used to use the word "devious" often.
I like adding unnecessarying suffixeses to words.

Umm this is my name for everything. I use to try to come with witty and amusing login names to places but I could never remember them. So, finally I settle on my last name with my first initial. BANG and BANG. Everytime I'm into my accounts no worries. No hitting myself in the head for not remembering.

What were you before that? http://forums.intpcentral.com/images/smilies/holy.gifhttp://forums.intpcentral.com/images/smilies/harhar1.gif
Me? Derived from Kavik the Wolfdog. Written by Walt Morey. Story of a wolf cross that didn't belong, and couldn't be who everyone wanted him to be. He was strong, fluffy...and a total coward.
I only wish I was fluffy. Cowarldly? yeah. I'm strong enough to pay my bills, to keep horses, and deal with you lot. Strong, yeah. That's me.

tragula

I explained my name once before.
But here it goes again for anyone who is curious, and doesn't immediately grasp the reference. Trin Tragula is a character from the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy:
http://hhgproject.org/entries/tragulatrin.html
Personally, I don't really like the way the screen name sort of becomes part of your identity. If a bunch of posters met up, they would probably refer to each other by screen names, which would be weird for most, and just a little too colorful for real life.
Come to think of it, I don't really like the way my real life name becomes part of my identity either. How curious.

Just go by Corporate. Even if people do call you whore, so long as no one brings a whore, it'll be cool.
Which statement will be horribly confusing when we have a member called cool (http://forums.intpcentral.com/member.php?u=573). But I digress.

In my own personal life, I faded into nothingness and rationalized my existence with philosophy. Yet preceding those events, I had always found nihilism to be a philosophy based purely on reason and logic.
Hexchild
25 Jun 2005, 05:18 AM
I've had a few "handles" (as we used to call them in the coding scene) since I started using computers. "Hexchild" is in my opinion the best one that I've come up with so far, and I will probably stick with it for a very long time. It has a little history, but to cut a long story short I had this character on RuneScape (an MMORPG) that I called Hexchild (actually Agatha Darwyck*, the hex child). When I created Agatha I wanted a user name that fit the character but also somehow hinted at the fact that a hacker dude like me was behind the keyboard. The Agatha I imagined was, in terms of similarities to famous game and movie characters, sort of a female voodo style Harry Potter with a style not entirely unlike that of McGee's Alice. She'd be a rebellious, somewhat sinister spirit with a knack for sorcery. "Voodoo people" by Prodigy was on my speakers, then Jimi Hendrix' "Voodoo Child" briefly came to mind, which I then changed into Hex Child since I figured she was a child of pure magic rather than occult trinkets. "Hex" is another word for magic spell (specifically one that embodies some sort of a curse or has some sinister aspect). "Hex" is also short for hexadecimal, which is a numbering system frequently used by programmers like myself, and it is not uncommon for veteran programmers to be labeled as "wizards" which rings nicely with "hex". "Hexchild" was simply a darn good name, both for my RS character and any kind of account on the 'net.
*) Incidentally, both Agatha Darwyck and my first RuneScape character, Erphaym Darwyck, are cousins and originally two of the characters in a computer game I've been making plans for, for quite some time. If I somehow manage to follow this though, the game would be called "The Trouble With Sorcery". I've even made some music themes for that game that you could listen to should you be unexpectedly interested. You'll find them on my homepage (http://www.tinysys.org/~piglet) under the "my music" link.

smack = bad
pint = good
i'm so confused. why would you want to smack anyone in the mouth with a pint of guinness? that's wasteful.
toss a light beer in the face if you must, but don't throw away the good stuff.

What's the drinking age there in Australia?
Shai Gar
25 Jun 2005, 09:20 AM
the age is 18. and i would smack them in the face with a guinness because it would force them to get really drunk really fast, but i can see how you might think i was simply hitting them, as opposed to pouring the black nectar downt their throat

CENTIPEDE HEAD

I find that electron photomicrographs of ordinary objects are aesthetically pleasing. I had this image of a centipede's head which was very colorful, and I wanted to use it as an avatar. So I just used "Centipede Head" as a screen name. But today I decided that my avatar has too much of an alien and forbidding look to it. I wanted a more human looking avatar which goes next to my posts. More human..It made me think of Star Trek's character Data who was always striving to become more human in spite of the fact that he was an android. (I am not a Trekkie, but I liked the character and some of the movies.) The centipede photomicrograph is still my "profile picture."

Thanks Centipede Head. I have to say that I like your avatar, Data is one of my favorite ST characters, because of his calm, logical and friendly character. I think he somewhat embodies an NF search for soul combined with a rational's search for truth. As if somewhere inside that robotic brain, there is a real person.

Thanks, yes, I think with Data there was a ghost in the machine. I always sympathized with him more than other ST characters.

Remember that invention of yours? You know, the uhm, one that resurrects your son and turns him into a bird? Well, it worked.
I think that cedar waxwings get "drunk" on those berries. I can't remember the exact scientific explanation, but they're prone to excess in their behaviors.

I first used it for the game Infantry I used to play back then. I've used it about 80% of the time pretty much ever since.

I also go by Attila_The_Pun (I gave myself that title after making an exceptional pun), HTM, Captain_Paőlo (my piratey persona), Elderbats (don't ask), and Metaphorical_Implications (means "doughnuts," and is my current email)
as well as several "anonymous" names which have nothing to do with me but are, for the most part, plausible (Camaroman, CoffeeJockey, AsianSensation, mulletlikeyoumeanit, etc.)

INTrPosr
18 Jul 2005, 08:30 PM
It seems that I put this in another thread, but here goes. When I originally began using the internet, my ID was Mediator268. Mediation is what I enjoy doing, what I did for the past ten years. The two represents the vowels added up and reduced to a single digit, as does the six for the consonants, and the eight is a combination of both.
After taking the MBTI II and discovering that I was INTP, I wanted a name that represented that side of me, yet still reflected my enjoyment of mediation. Thus, I created the name INTrPosr (interposer). I was still torn between whether I was INTP or ENTP, thus I also use the ID "Functianalyst" (functional analyst) on the ENTP forum.

I've had attila_the_hunny for a long time. It's my favorite name and I have an e-mail with it and frequent a few other boards with it. It's pretty much self-explanatory. Attila is seen as a savage person, much like Kahn, and "hunny" adds a little girlie touch.
Someone also told me Tori Amos used it on a track called a "Conversation with God." I have yet to hear it but look forward to it.

I was thinking of the stupid Piss-on stickers (fake Calvin pissing on stuff). Soe ESTJ at work has a Chevy pickup with a sticker that reads "You can't piss on what you can't catch" - like the pickup is some hot ride... this led to me thinking of all the J crap I have to do and how I was P-ing my time away on some forum and, well, I pee on Js (figuratively speaking of course)...

i've had many usernames. it really depended on what i was thinking about at that point in time. i've used "imreallysobored" before, that is one of the more memorable ones.
my most recent one, my current one, came about because i was thinking of a username, and happened to get distracted (which is very common). i decided it was quite appropriate given my ADD behavioral traits.. and hence, non-sequitur. it also warns people that when i post, my posts are likely to be at least slightly OT. :P

Kendoiwan is a name given to me. Kendoi is a japanese word referring to directness, like a direct sword thrust to the heart *given to me because of my way of cutting to the chase, or getting strait to the heart of the matter* and Wan is just like saying mister or sir, just a repectful thing.
