What one would you get and why.

Unfortunately, I want it to run windows XP for compatibility reasons. Yes, I could emulate, but since I am buying this computer to use in a new job I don't EVER want to have to WORK on the computer so I can do my work. Besides light work, the computer will also be used for light gaming.

Thanks.

And kill the original owner while at it.

As I said XP. I already have Mac OS X on my home machine and don't want to mess around with emulation for the software I will be using.

We get Fujitsu Lifebook's at work. The newer series are quite nice, but I don't know how much they cost.

I shopped recently and noticed that the Sony Vaio has some of the best graphics, its petite and light and easy to carry, doesn't overheat like so many laptops do, and has the best "package" of software. I don't remember which Sony Vaio, but they had them on sale at circuit city for about 1200 or so.

The next choice would be IBM think pad, but the price is higher, and graphics not as good, and its heavier to lug around if you are on travel. Really, Sony Vaio, was my favorite because of how tiny and light it was, how sleek and metallic it was, the graphics and software were good.

Actually, I opted not to get the laptop and instead got a desktop with 4gb of memory because it was time to replace my old IBM aptiva at home anyway.

dell usually runs a bunch of those kind of deals... although I've heard the parts are of cheaper quality and it is heavier.

Out of curiosity, why 30 dollars?

I have a Sony Vaio laptop I purchased off of eBay. It came with the complete MS Office software (Word, Excel, PPt, Access, etc), XP Professional, System Suite, several antivirus/anti-spyware programs, Systran, and a bunch of other software I've yet to use. Over a year ago it was $1200. . . I needed the MS Office stuff for school (Excel, mostly), but the rest of the programs are great. I'd recommend looking on eBay.

Because Australian robbers are cheap.

This is the one I am looking at:

HP Pavillion zv5000t (http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/computer_series.do?series_name=zv5000t_series&catLevel=2&category=notebooks/hp_pavilion&storeName=computer_store)

After I customize it, it ends up being about 1250 or so. Seems like a pretty kickass machine. 3.0 ghz processor with 800mhz bus and DDR memory. Downside would be the lack of higher speed ram for the graphics card, but with the higher bus speed I would think that would be mitigated.

Any laptop that can run OS X.
