View Full Version : Survival of INTPcentral

My understanding is that fc and heero are the ones keeping
this forum going.
What happens when they move on to other things or do not have enough time
any more?
Also, there must be costs involved, such as the hosting etc - who pays for this?

Will this forum die? It would be a pity.
Is there a way we can ensure this thing lives and grows?

Please PsiKik, no pessimism. Idle doom and gloom is contagious. I plan to administer the vaccine right here and now.

*shuffles onto podium*

I believe all INTPs have a right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. This forum has been the glue that binds us together, so we may find strength in our oddball humour (Ne) and logical thinking (Ti). If the foundations of our connections may crumble, remember the baton may be passed to an equally competent geek who will be more than happy to host the forum, should the departure of our gracious moderators be imminent.
*nudges garak, Aven, mgbradsh*
It is with great Fe that I proclaim INTPcentral an everlasting fixture in the realm of cyberspace, amorphous and freewheeling, subject to change, but never banished to the dungeons of obsolescence.
*waves hand, departs*

Funny, I was not intending to sow doom and gloom. I want to ensure that this forum continues.
I want to know how such facts of life like the cost of hosting the domain
can continue to be met.
Perhaps adding a paypal donation link etc.

I'm sure if it comes to that the torch will be passed on... the current costs are the vbulletin license and domain fees.. heero is/has the "hook up" for the hosting.

ShaiGar, it has nothing to do with "forum" administration, have you ever ran a unix server that gets around 2 gigabytes traffic per day? That's what this forum uses. :)

As for hosting etc, don't worry, I have it taken care of, and as FC said, the torch will be passed if all else fails. But that isn't happening, and won't happen, so there is no concern. I already don't have so much time to post, and yet I maintain the site. The navigation? It works now :) The only thing I'm waiting on is my slave to fscking get his slave file setup so I can reconfigure the DNS to work better for everyone.

In any event, just my $0.02.

To add to my previous post-as far as emergency survival, backups etc are taken regularly, I've started taking offsite mysql backups nightly as well for security reasons. So...we're...pretty safe from that.

i am currently getting unix training and i have been in charge, albeit for 4 hours, of a server that got a lot more action than this one. the only way i could effeciently help out would be with money and spending a lot of time here. heero i dont want the job i would rather you slaved over it* instead, but i am just saying i am here to help should you ever need to step down.

*and get yelled at for a half hour every time you want to make a 30 second upgrade during the graveyard shift. :D

This is where I am confident that the "loyalty" aspect of the INTP personality will take care of us. I can already tell there is no way f.c. or Heero would just up and wash their hands of the forum. Besides which, they are both young and hard core computer geeks. Likely to be involved in the business for a long time.

I pay $10 per month for hosting so it's not a problem. My forum has 530 members and isn't using a fraction of the allocated bandwidth I have, so I would gladly host this one for free if it was ever needed.

INTP Central will never die :)

There are plenty of people who could/would take over, including myself.

I wouldn't worry about it, we already lost the original owner of the forum and survived.

We did the paypal thing when we needed money for the vb license and raised it rather quickly. This place has grown a lot since then as well, I don't see it going anywhere anytime soon.

Yeah, that would be bad.

Not quite the same, but...

"they're coming to take me away, ha ha, they're coming to take me away, ho ho, hee hee, to the funny farm, where life is beautiful all the time and I'll be happy to see those nice young men in their clean white coats and they're coming to take me away, ha ha!"

Re your interest in web design, thought you might be able to add a little professionalism/spice/clout to the joint. Just suggestin'

Aven. seems more purposeful with a different (used loosely) approach, at INTPcentral anyway.

No worries, I was just confused as to what you meant.
And, perhaps, when I actually feel the muses coming ^^.
