It's back and it's appalling to say the least... TV, net, radio... "We're the greatest, we're the best and our shit don't stink..."

Just went across a fine example (in the words of the great stimpy - "putting on the stupomitron helmet... Prepare to activate!")

Oh, and yes, it's got some great music of course.

Is it just me, or is there something creepy about this picture?

Was it ever away?

Have you met any Russians, they've always seemed extremely patriotic to me, even the younger generations.

'22 years on and the benevolence of mother Russia following Chernobyl incident has ensured there are no more adverse affects throughout the former Soviet territories'

Sounds like Americans - only in Russian. Nothing new here.

Actually, that's something I've been noticing, America seems a lot like Russia in ways. Very conservative, very religious (well, I'm not sure how religious they are anymore), very industrial, and a relatively safe haven for corrupt politicians.

They suck at faking smiles.

There's a very simple way to figure it out. The dumber the person, the more patriotic they are.

Hey, the russians are kind of smart. They know the best strategy for prisoner's dilemma is tit-for-tat.

Like how they created an extra long form for visa applications from US citizens.

And the baby looks like a toy.

They certainly are flexing their muscles lately.

Did anyone see the BBC documentary. Was fairly balanced I thought. Showed how the Russians perceive the missile defense issue. From their point of view,it really must seem like an act of aggression.

On the other hand it painted quite a negative picture of Putin. An insecure dictator in waiting. It's becoming quite a trend these days, you talk democracy but you walk totalitarian. I see it happening a lot in my own country too.

A puppet for his masters, really.

They asked some Russian girls in the documentary about Putin. They said they liked him because Russia is not yet "civilized" enough for a truly democratic leader. heh !

meh ... I'm not going to pass too much judgment on them as a people though. Understanding all the deeply complex cultural issues that make up a country can only be done if you live there for a good number of years.

I hope the first fourteen years of my life will be enough. He's a puppet for a shadow government of crooks, the girls are stupid and the culture has long been dead.

It's the fact that the baby's the one staring dead at the camera and the rest of the family is not.

It's Gage from Pet Cemetery.

I take it you lived there until you were 14 ?
I heard that they want to extend the presidential term. Never a good sign.

I'm interested to see how Obama works with them. The trick, IMO, is to maintain the moral high ground until they play their hand.

The worse propaganda tends to have religious overtones, and this clashes with the typical American propaganda that all Russians are Atheist. Either side seems like bull$#!^.

Yeh... They actually started making people get passports at 14 (just as I was leaving the country)... I guess they didn't feel like missing out on any cannon fodder for their wars... I can't technically go back there because then I'd have to serve in army were if I were to be caught on the street ( you need to pay russia 1500 USD to forfeit your citizenship - which is bullshit frankly).

How did they rationalize that one? The intent seems pretty obvious to me, but I'm just wondering how they buttered it up to make it seem innocent to the public.

That's the great thing about being in power... You don't have to rationalize anything.

Ayn Rand sums up the Russian mentality in her writings, for those who dont know she was born and raised in Russia till she was 21 I think. If it wasnt for Russia we wouldnt have objectivism.

I'm no diehard disciple but she has her good points and there are two opposing biographies that are pretty interesting to read.
