See, that's why I could never be a math major. I put 2194 because that's what comes up when you do a manual search, as I didn't realize that it has to be done through the profile.

I only just started using it. It annoyed me last year when I first tried it, but I've found it's good for keeping track of threads I've posted in (although I don't really care about most of the threads where I've posted 'Moved from...').

Why everybody else is having more posts than the total, when they search their usernames?

You are doing it wrong. You have to click posts, not threads.

Under search options, bottom choice, "show results as".

Yes, I ran my search first with "show threads" as the default and it gave me the wrong number too.

Nope, they only show up in the User CP when someone posts in a subscribed thread. Much like New Posts, but more focused.

Surprised so few use this feature, it makes handling the board a lot easier. Though it makes sense now when I'll reference something off the forum to someone about a thread they've repeatedly posted in and they have no clue because they never read the later post.

I'm not sure why a thousand plus subscribed threads is more focused, vs. using new posts?

Anyhow... this board doesn't move as fast. If I want to see what to follow up, I just click on my own previous posts to follow the thread?

On typo central which moves faster, what I do is just stalk a few members actually. They have a nice feature where the user name is a link, so I can just click and see their last posts; on here it isn't as stalkable in that respect.

LR: Yes, I had trouble finding the total post count too! :theclap: Setards unite!

MacGuffin

I'm not sure why a thousand plus subscribed threads is more focused, vs. using new posts?

Because they don't show up until there's a new post. For example, since I last logged in the previous night, there are 39 New Subscribed Threads in my User CP. There are 104 threads with New Posts.

Still far easier to just click the thread in your User CP - takes you right to the oldest unread post in the thread.

Threads Subscribed To 1 listed. I don't even know how I got this one. Maybe as a "test" or something. I don't remember ever subscribing to anything. For a while I didn't even know what it meant. Sounded like something that could develop into a hassle, and so I never did it. Just like I could never remember how to get into that "news" section that Ape has that "Cargo Cult" story in.

Yep, that's how I navigate too. I have it set to subscribe me to every thread I post in so I can keep up with replies easily. That way, Subscribed Threads is a lot like New Threads, except it's only made up of threads I've posted in. Much less clutter. So I usually start at my subscriptions and then if I still have time I'll go check out what else is going on in threads I haven't posted in.

3 Dec 2008, 03:55 PM
Instead of "subscribing" I can just go to "Search" and look for "Kuranes", although it will bring up threads I haven't posted in for a long time - if they showed recent activity. I always figured "subscribing" meant the threads were sent to my email in-box. It has become a habit of mine to decline offers to automatically "update" me there.

 In what way? You mean emailing the posters in the thread? No. Emailing the site in such a way so that it automatically gets posted in the thread. I suppose not, or you wouldn't have asked it that way. ( I am not a techie - and so I may ask for or about some things that a techie would know immediately were not possible. )

No, the forum software doesn't support anything like it. Not a bad idea though. You'd need a specific email address linked to a user name and a way for the software to correctly id the thread...

Perhaps, or you don't want your employer to know. Internet monitoring will only increase, esp. now with the economy in the shitter, companies look for more ways to put the screws to people.

Plus, without logging in, you don't reset all the unread posts.

I figure any company which is that desperate to catch people in the act will have installed key logging software anyway. Nothing like having the boss pull you aside and ask why you're writing an email about your preferences in terms of pubic hair, or whether or not you'd want to slurp chilled semen...

Plus, without logging in, you don't reset all the unread posts.
More than anything, I see this as the one major benefit of using something like ...this. (Too many "this"es)

The main benefit would be that you could reply to important posts or PMs via a blackberry.
Correct me if I'm being simplistic, but if you haven't logged in, how do you know you have an important post in need of reply? ...Unless you plan to read posts at a computer, then wait until you're sitting on the subway during the commute home to compose your replies.

True. At work, INTPc is blocked. MBTIc, however, is not. I simply can't access INTPc at work, so any work-arounds would be swiizeet!

The main benefit would be that you could reply to important posts or PMs via a blackberry.

Sadly, I do that now. However, an email address attached to a username would be much easier due to formatting issues.

Example: When I try to PM on my Blackberry, it's easiest to type in mobile view, but to actually send it I have to switch to desktop view since the "submit" button disappears in mobile view. It's weird.
