An analysis of an 18,000-year-old fossil, described as the remains of a diminutive humanlike creature, proves that genuine cave-dwelling "hobbits" once flourished in Southeast Asia, according to a Long Island anthropologist who conducted X-ray studies of a skull.

What is the difference in a midget and a hobbit? A hobbit is one in a civilization consisting of other hobbits, whereas a midget is a hobbit living in a civilization of tall people? haha.

So what do you all think? Was Tolkien so knowledgeable he knew these existed and incorporated them into his stories? Or is this pure coincidence?

DISScus.

Nothing is coincidence, of course. Everything happens for a reason. Tolkein's books were part of God's design and fuckfuckfuck.

I agree.

I think neither. I doubt Tolkien got his inspiration for Bilbo and friends from remains found a continent away from him. Nor do I think that these sort of remains were even capable of being reminiscent of hobbits. History shows that most people were much smaller than we are today, progressively smaller.

i would assume that there is no way to tell since all they have found is fossilized bone.

It's just too bad Tolkien wasn't a better writer...
