Does anybody else here ride? I got a (really beat up) '96 Honda VFR750F last week.

I don't own one anymore, but I wouldn't be opposed to riding one again (though I'd also be more careful now).

Ohhh! I've had my eye on an interceptor for a long time. You're so lucky. :D

I don't, never have but want to.

My brother-in-law died on one this summer... so I put, "No, are you a lunatic?" Besides him, I think there have been 4 other motorcycle deaths this summer in this county.

I want to, but I haven't got the balance for it.

No, I don't like motorcycles and don't care if I never ride one again.

Too dangerous, I think...I would not mind riding one in a videogame, where I could run it into the side of a bridge after jumping and fall in the water.
I've got a 98 Honda CR125 I'm trying to sell. I want to get a street bike of some sort. I almost bought a Harley Sportster last year but decided to hold off. I've been dirt riding for almost all of my life.

All I wanted was a simple no. People that ride motorcycles are not lunatics, and I've never considered getting one. That's only because I would rather be able to calmly ride in a vehicle without getting wind blown on me.

Don't have one, but want one.
As far as lunatics go, I confess.
As far as fatalities go, there are many more in cars a year, and everyone uses those, no one ever thinks, "wow, there have been alot of automobile fatalities, I'm not getting in one of those death traps ever again." I bet a few have died on bicycles this year too.
I'd deffinately be getting a Harley if I had the chance.

Many more people use cars, too. =b Are you comparing percentages?

I think it's 21 times more likely to die on a bike than in a car per mile driven. I was researching it last month.

I want to get a motorcycle, but I can't afford one. I want to get a car first.

Something like that. Risk factors (#) :
* Age > 40
* Engine size > 1000cc
* Not wearing a helmet
* Not having a license
* Drinking and driving
Single vehicle crashes account for nearly half of all fatalities; risk factors in addition to those above ($):
* Riding too close to your traction limit w.r.t. negotiating curves, esp. using brakes while in a curve (big no-no if you aren't on the racetrack)
* Riding on rural roads
* Undivided roads
* Riding at night
I conclude that one can abate the risk to at least the same order of magnitude as in cars by not being a dumbass.

This may sound like the irony of all inronies, but if it weren't for motorcycles, or racing them, I might have killed myself a long time ago. I've been riding them since I was four years old.

I hope we don't get started on this, but thanks to Hypnos for providing very sound statistics. Totally, (and this is a value judgement on my part, but I can back it up) stupid fucking first time Hardly ur I mean Harley riders are the most likely to die in an "accident", where no one else but themselves are involved.....They run out of experience/talent.
....Sorry, I said I wouldn't get started, so I'll stop there.
But, one more factoid. Out of ten years (seasons) of MotoGP ( The top roadracing body, with approx. 20 races per year, with 20-30 riders each race.) only one person has suffered death. And even that one was in question because of the way the corner workers handled the situation, meaning "they" may have killed him by moving him without the correct care.

Rode on this road today:

As far as road riding, most of it has been in the southeast ( http://www.tailofthedragon.com/maps.html ). That looks awesome, though.
I pretty much only ride on road race tracks anymore...No cars, bicycles, or cops.

I'll have to go to the track sometime, but touring is fun. Check this out:

I've owned 5 of em.
Totalled one out at 60 mph once and it hurt like a s.o.b. Bought another and kept riding 'em. It's a great deal of fun, and relaxing too!

The ad has a scene that looks very much like the morgan1.jpg picture, but from a different point of view.
What bike/s do you have?
Edit *oops* re-read
Anything other than the VFR?

Does anybody else here ride?
My dad brought home a 50cc yamaha when I was six and I have been riding ever since. It is my passion. I used to race MX pretty competitively, but now I just ride street bikes.
I currently have a Buell X9BR firebolt. (what a piece of human ingenuity!!!) I think motorcycles are great for INTPs because riding is such a solitary acitivity. Riding also allows me to get out of that place of constantly analyzing everything and into the present moment with all the sights, smells, and the wind. Ummhh, nothing can beat that sensation. :D:D

nobarcode: Just the VFR -- I've only been riding for about 1.5 months. It feels great, and will want to upgrade to a late model in silver (http://www.pashnittours.com/photos/NorCalAug04/riders/Immanuel1-700.jpg) (minus the small Asian man and lowered seat of course; would probably opt for black for my Aerostich suit) when I get a real income.
Lucas: Totally (unless you're stuck in Bay Area traffic) -- among the most sublime of Si (http://www.typelogic.com/fa.html) experiences.

The "new" VFR is both the same and an entirely different creature. I've always been fond of them. They have a great sound, but the carbs. on the earlier ones are a BITCH to work on. And I mean :rant: :banghead:
If you do a "track day"/"race school" such as California Superbike School (while ignoring Keith Code's Scientology sermon), you'll learn more in two days than 5yrs. of riding on the street. I promise.
I agree Lucas. And you know, Eric Buell used to race Ducatis, which inspired the Buell.
