The BBC The Office is a great show. It was well written and well acted. The Gareth character, in my opinion, is one of the best in comedy TV history - almost up there with Archie Bunker. The humour wasn't as in-your-face as is the trend in the US. (which is why people don't watch Arrested Development) Some of the more literal-minded people with whom I've watched it don't appreciate the subtleties that make it a great show. Part of it is the accent, which doesn't trouble me (though it seems that the British have always been behind in movie and TV audio - there are some parts of Monte Python, however, where they immitate women, where I can hardly understand a word).

After two episodes, although the NBC Office is decent, so far after two episodes, it pales in comparison to the original, as is usually the case. The characters are not nearly as developed as they were in first two episodes of the BBC series and the action seems much too exaggerated in the NBC version. Everything also seems to happen much too quickly. I do give the new version credit for the second episode where they took on the obsession with "diversity" in workplaces.

So what do you think of these two versions or, if you've only seen one or the other, what do you think of the program?

I love the BBC's The Office, however I live in England and we probably will not get to see the NBC version until the series has run it's course in america, as seems to be the way with these things, so I might answer this thread properly one day, but not for a long time.

I have seen a couple of episodes of the BBC version and I like it very much. I haven't seen anything like that before. I first thought that it's a reality show or a documentary...
It's a type of humor that I can stand, and enjoy. Makes other humoristic shows and movies look miserable.
I think it's a great film.

David Brent: ENFP. Ridiculously good example of an unhealthy enneagram 3w2 with a social variant.

Gareth - ISTJ
Tim - INFP ???
Dawn - ISFJ
Finchy - ESTP

I would say Ricky Gervais is a 7w6 ENTP

The American version is a bit more blunt and less subtle like the British version was. Still, that's the way that kind of humor tends to run in this country, with shows like The Simpsons and King of the Hill. I was still laughing at the American version, though. Our version of David Brent is even more of an asshole.
