View Full Version : How do you ruin an INTP forum?

I've noticed a lot of threads whose topics members want to discuss shut down.

I understand the reason. People don't stay civil. It is the admin's (and mods) decision that they want a civil board.

And it's entirely theirs to make. If they want to edit every word they don't like out of our posts for any reason, they pay for the webspace. Freedom of speech is not a right you have from anyone but a government. Here, we have the right to say what we please as long as the admins like what we have to say.

And here is the problem. It would be a lie to say it was any other way.

This is an INTP board. We have almost universal knee-jerk reaction against that state of affairs, and yet it is neccicary to keep a board running.

We hate authority and would likely prefer a democracy, yet can't agree on anything long enough to get anything done if we had one.

So, how to cater to this audience? How can you ask civility of us from a position of authority when you've made a board for argumentative anti-authoritarians? How can a board of people who can't agree on anything come to any democratic decision?

I don't know. But I do have a feeling that the few things we do have in common are ignored simply by how the rules of these places are designed. I believe this way of doing is grating a good many here, and I feel it could be made less so.

Not demanding anything be done. But at the very least it may be useful as a meditation on the INTP nature, no? Rules and systems are designed for our SJ and SP friends, as they are the majority of the population. What possible way of doing things for INTPs would find the middle ground between effective yet grating and pleasing to the masses yet toothless?

Don't feed the beast by giving it what it wants. I find it effective to put such things on a shelf and walk away. Why bother getting frustrated.

The majority of us (myself included) I feel would not really like to be involved in any sort of argument or ill feeling against one another.
Just like society, there are a few shitstirrers who make life bad for the rest of us. They either enjoy it, or feel that it's worth getting the last laugh in at the expense of peace in the forum, and not having the guts to, as PonderBee said, "put such things on a shelf and walk away". Not naming names, but there are some members here who simply just can't or won't do that.
Keeping in mind that the best situation is one where there is no personal acrimony, I think that our current mods have a great eye for judging when to say "enough is enough". I personally would be tougher, but then that's probably why I'm not a mod.
There really is no objective threshold for when a member will be banned or a thread locked. I guess it's just an instinctual thing for them, and that's totally fine with me.

I know it is already ruined by the way my body rejects it. The feeling of nausea, and the involuntary disagreement nod of my head.

I really doubt it can be saved.

Oooh, Mesh and her obvious bad-apple-ness!

And how terrible for me it led to mostly civil discussion! I couldn't possibly think that dissent would be fine, or actually post a topic of discussion to, like, discuss. I obviously wanted you all to agree with me! Because when people don't, it disturbs my blaaaaack soooooul.

You are not allowed a blaaaaack soooooul, that is discrimination against souls of other colours and ethnic backgrounds.

actually the intention was not to start shit.
i was amused by the implications of putting an i in run and then reposting it.

i was bored, it livened things up for me... for about 20 seconds. although it did have the upside of not changing the topic of your thread.
