China may 'execute' protesters (http://english.aljazeera.net/news/asia-pacific/2009/07/200978151043392638.html)

I'm not too familiar with this situation beyond what's been recently reported, but this is just horrible. It's things like this that make me wonder if we can really rely on China to be a peaceful ally.

"to those who committed crimes with cruel means, we will execute them".

Crime cannot go unpunished, no matter how pathetically you support the criminals. Insurrection must be eradicated. Whatever the cost.

80 years ago, and that line of thinking would probably have been pretty popular in certain areas in the West.

They're just playing 'ally' until Rome (U.S.) crumbles. Their day is coming, sooner than you think.

Honestly, I really can't see how The United States can sustain their financial 'superiority' much longer. But alas, this is what happens when you base your whole government's foundation on corruption and deceit.

China bans Urumqi mosque prayers (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/8143554.stm)

I wonder what bright idea they'll come up next to calm the situation down.

Also, I'd say the events warrant their own thread by now, so moving them from the Random Thread...

the chinese government assimilates and represses neighboring territories/people opportunistically, the american government lashes out and fucks up countries across the ocean beyond all recognition, killing millions, then withdraws. they're both kind of sucky in their own way. some bodies and a bunch of second class citizens who are stuck that way, or just a shitload of bodies and survivors who get to be ass poor under their own government. take your pick.

china will approach or rival america in global power in the coming decades but i wouldn't really start worrying until 100+ million han pack their suitcases and start settling here.

Yeah, America can be horrible in it's own way, I know. Still, that doesn't mean it's impossible for Americans to discuss their actions. We need to be hesitant before doing moralistic finger pointing, but rationally, their actions are just stupid in this situation, imo. I mean, repressing what may be the world's largest religion just isn't good thinking.
