I especially am fond of option 3. It's not quite four but it's much better than one or two.

I like the test poll I made on n-central: http://intuitivecentral.com/forum/showthread.php?t=534

Excellent choise YG, excellent choice.

I am amused at the peer pressure apparent in the poll...

Hey, I was the first one who voted, and I voted option 3. It's all because of me, right?

I heard something interesting about things like this once - given a certain number of choices, most people will pick the same one. 1-4 yields 3, and 1-10 yields 7 I believe.

Harsh darn it! It's the golden section again!

I voted 3, I was unsure at first but YardGnome's argument was very persausive

Wow, INTP's would analyze just anything. [This poll was a test right?]

Anyone checked the results before selecting?

4 is my favorite/"lucky" number

I voted 3 because that is the most obvious choice, before I read any posts or anything.

This is what I like about INTP-Central, there's no "off-topic" spam, and the only reason for moderating is personal attacks between forum members, which has its own forum, so no problem about it...

Wow even this test thread churned out some thoughtfull discussion... who knew?

I especially am fond of option 3. It's not quite four but it's much better than one or two.Good reasoning.... I thought about this some time ago, and I think the third option in a closed test is naturally the best place for the correct answer, since the two first serve to confuse (perhaps by inducing wrong assumptions), while the fourth is false since that would be too obvious . I think in higher education tests they place the answers in a randomly order, but in HS I bet the third answer is statistically most commonly the right one.

And to think the reason this thread started was a test. BTW, I voted 5 stars for this thread.

This is just classic. It's a test poll fellas... how about let's start a discussion on the philosophical meaning of 4-option experiments? :D

I'm not voting, since my favorite option, 'opt5' was deliberately left out.

I also remember hearing something like that... and 1-100 yields 37... not sure if that's influenced by Monty Python, though.

You should pick option 1 or 2 since some tests have only true/false yes/no answers in them. Odd numbers are better than even #s so 1 is the obvious choice. I chose 3.

Correct. I was aware of the gravitation towards 3, and so I chose 2, just to be contrary :P

The 1 to 100 thing that Jimkopelli said usually comes with a few caveats:
The number has to have 2 digits.
Both digits have to be odd.
The second digit has to be equal to or greater than the first.

Which leaves us these options:
11 13 15 17 19
33 35 37 39
55 57 59
77 79
99

Which in actual fact is only 15 numbers.
Now no-one will choose 1x, 7x, or 99 because they are perceived as being too close to being "outliers". This narrows our choices down to 7. People are more likely to choose 3x over 5x because there are more of them, and people like choosing a "more common" number.
No-one will choose 33 because there aren't as many xx numbers as there are xy numbers, again the "more common" rule.
35 - 3 and 5 are a bit too close together
39 - 3 and 9 are a bit too far apart
37 - Just right! It has a bit of "balance" or equilibrium to it, possibly because 3 + 7 = 10, a nice round number.

And all this goes through people's heads in a split second, so they choose 37.
Psychology rocks!

My first impulse was three, thought about voting one, then checked the rest of the thread to make sure it is indeed a completely random 1,2,3, or 4 thing, now I'm not sure if there is any point in voting.
