...conservative Republican voters believe Obama is deliberately and ruthlessly advancing a "secret agenda" to bankrupt our country and dramatically expand government control over all aspects of our daily lives. They view this effort in sweeping terms, and cast a successful Obama presidency as the destruction of the United States as it was conceived by our founders and developed over the past 200 years.


Several of the women particularly talked about becoming a sort of truth police, spending a great deal of their personal time and energy watching FOX to get the real stories, then turning to CNN, MSNBC, and the networks to document their failure to cover the "real truth". It was unclear what they did with this information once gathered, other than share it with others within this group.


Two aspects of the discussion on Beck among conservative Republicans were particularly noteworthy. One was a common fear among the women for his personal safety, a belief that his willingness to stand up to powerful liberal interests was putting his life, as well as the lives of those working with him, in danger.

There’s a school of thought that if you overload the system with programs and bailouts and all that, that it will create an opportunity, some people believe it started in the 60’s with welfare and Medicare and Medicaid; if you load the system down enough till it totally collapses it, I mean, I know it sounds kind of like a conspiracy theory, but it opens the door for this whole new way of governing. I’m not saying he’s a sleeper or anything like that, but it is something to think about… I think your statement’s correct. I think it’s intentional.

Yeah, they seriously are. I have one group of relatives who are conservative Christians. They go protest abortion clinics, and protest gay parades and stuff. Which is ironic because one of their sons is gay, and they don't reject him, they just don't invite him to protest gay parades with them.

But really they do believe their worldview is under assault, and they're scared that their way of life will die with them since so many young people seem to reject Creationism and accept homosexuality as something that's not evil.


Yes. Yes they are.

That's my experience too. Around here, they're a tiny minority but I know in the South more people think like them.
