View Full Version : October trivia contest

I'm thinking either Friday 5 pm GMT, or Saturday 9 pm GMT

(GMT time: http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/)

There's also a possibility for Sunday, Novermber 1st, at, basically, any time you people want (after 10 am GMT and before midnight, of course).

So, up to you (vote to the poll), but also depending on an obligation I might or might not have on Friday.

(EDIT:
I voted "Protest!" so that I can see the poll results when clicking on the thread)

(RE-EDIT: If you actually don't give a damn, or won't participate, then don't vote or vote "Protest!" - this will make my life seriously easier)

are the second and third options for Sunday supposed to be pm?

Yeah. If one of the mods would be so kind...

Yeah. If one of the mods would be so kind...

In that case either the 3-7 or 9pm one on Sunday would probably work best for me, although it would be weird to have October's trivia in November.

Yep, for me it'd be slightly better as well, but not that much better that I'd impose a date.

Since it'd be only November 1st, we can all pretend we live on the other side of the globe than bluebell (who lives one day in the future) and that it'd be still October on Sunday (which will not be Sunday, of course, in that case).

Done.

My preferences are Saturday @ 9 pm or Sunday @ 9 pm.

I think we'd slid into the next month before. It's a very INTP thing to do.

Yeah, I think you're right. I'd check, but I'm too P lazy. So long as I get do some trivia roughly once a month, I'm a happy camper.

Thanks!

So, everybody, it's gonna be on Sunday, or maybe on Saturday (it vaguely depends on the weather).

So, how much money? And if there are questions unanswered and casino cash unused, do I keep it myself?

 Greedhead. Nope; that's the downside of winning the contest. If you want to maximize your winnings, come in a close second every time.

You can award $25K casino cash total. The last three contests had 50 questions for $500 each, but earlier contest runners varied the amounts according to the difficulty of the question. Your choice. If you have any questions about the ins and outs of running a contest, post them here and I or another past champion can answer them.

Well let's see if you can get revenge on me for the bream incident. ;)

LastRailway
29 Oct 2009, 09:30 PM
Yeah, I think I'll vary the amounts because I have two categories that I think are going to be quite hard (in fact, I don't really expect people to be able to answer them). I was also thinking to post two hints per question and decrease the amount after each hint has been posted (that was the money I hoped I could keep :p).

Oh well, maybe I'll try to make it a bit easier, or make a bonus round or something.

I have some history questions! I think of them as hard, but they might be easy for someone who actually knows history.

"Spot the Fish" was an excellent category. It stumped me cold.

I'm surprised no one complained about the weaving and doll fiascos in my quiz.

The doll one was a fair question, I saw 'Bebe' come up quite regularly in my searches but failed to catch on that it was also a general term and not merely attached to certain makers of dolls.

Eh... the weaving one was immensely tricky, I looked through a book of weaving drafts but it wasn't there. Still a question or two of that difficulty is par for the course I think.

'Bring it on', as the colonial idiom goes.

In retrospect, the term "shadow weave" goes beyond trivia into technical jargon. Mrs. Woolf is the weaving expert, not me, so I didn't know that at the time.

Hey Ferrus. pssst, shhh, am I "8 or 9 GMT" ??

I can't remember what time that would be for me? Shit. I love being sleep deprived and being as retarded as everyone else. :happpy:

I think this might have also contributed to why I got late for that Trivia Contest you did. Meaning: I would've done better if I hadn't been so late. LOL Thanks. :smooch:

Never mind. I went back and read the 'directions' and the link Last Railway put in for us who are intellectually challenged by life. Yay LR! So I think that will be this afternoon, okay? Hope I did the Math right. It's been a challenging weekend. Sigh.

stopharian

And that GMT-8 starts today.....Which reminds me that we should be careful with the trivia start time as the USA went off daylight saving and onto standard time last night at midnight meaning everyone is now 1 hour back.

spring forward fall back

If it's chocolate cake, I need less than half a minute.

Virginia, silly. We have old hippie type rebels even here. Never been out West my entire life. Only been South and North. Very lazy I know. I don't even want to see or visit California. Maybe Arizona or New Mexico or what not. Why would I leave the Nations' Capital area when we have Obama and California has politicians who are mostly actors who are very cute and all but hey, not Harry Potter cute. Anon is the only thing they got and he is here, right? :) Yay Anon. One californian I DO understand.
