The ANSIR(R) Self-Perception Profiler(tm) http://personal.ansir.com/test.htm
My results:
Top Thinking strength: Kinsmen ('These intelligent, unprepossessing individuals are not driven by ego. Their style is more of the show than tell variety. Their living is their teaching.')
Top working strength: Kinsmen ('They gather, organize, and determine a plan with efficiency in mind. Perfectionistic and meticulous, their forté is for arranging and processing details within the context of larger pictures.')
Top emoting strength: Diligent ('Their mortar is a mix of intellect and practicality, and of a sort intolerant of mistakes.')
The initial test and summary results are free and then they try to sell you stuff.
It lets you adjust your answers if you think the description it gives you doesn't sound right. (First it said my emoting style was 'evocateur' - something about helping others express their emotions - huh? Upon adjustment it came up with 'diligent' - "Diligent often makes a conscious decision to avoid emotional expression and seems tight-lipped determined to remain that way." That's more like it...)
Also, just a rant/warning that the descriptions (the short AND long ones - yes I was suckered into paying 7 bucks for the 'in-depths') constantly misuse commas, and have some jarring grammatical errors resulting from some silly jargon invented for this system (example: "Emotional honesty is a challenge for most, but for the Diligent strength it goes far beyond the mere of challenging." 'the mere of challenging'???? I can hardly stand to read that. And see above where it says 'a sort of intolerant of mistakes' which was not a typo on my part...
That said, it was pretty interesting overall.

Seeking information regarding the descriptions of the other Ansir types, because some thoughtless people here neglected to provide these descriptors after their labels;) I came across this site: http://www.slackeur.com/ansir/ and found the descriptions both interesting and amusing. :)
Yours
in search of an ego
Extremist Can live where most cannot. He is abetted by not being able to easily form emotional attachments.
Realist Is master of the obvious. He is reliable and competent. He is abetted by his impulsiveness.
Scintillator Can quickly spot social trends. By jumping on the bandwagon first, he doesn't have to think for himself.
Sentinel Is sensitive to the natural environment; first to spot danger. There are more sentinels than any other type, proving that pessimism pays.
Diligent Is good with details. He is abetted by being largely emotionless.
Sage Is good with a lot of information. He is abetted by being emotionally simple.
Eccentrik Is good at optimizing processes. His stubborn desire to do things his way might cost him much, but this is compensated by his own sense of practicality.
Idealist Is good at optimizing the usage of physical and human resources. He is abetted by lacking a conscience.
Kinsmen Is good at making social aquaintances. He is generous, easy-going, level-headed and non-judgemental. He is abetted by difficulty in accessing his feelings.
Empath Is specialized for interfacing and negotiating with others at the emotional level. He is good at lie-detecting, emotional manipulation, and making others feel good. He is abetted by not being able to reason without consulting his feelings.
Visionary Is good at leading. He is abetted by possessing a contempt for being lead.
Evokateur Is good at giving advice to leaders. He is abetted by possessing an impatience with reality and an eagerness to please.
Healer Is capable of assuming the personas of others. He is abetted by lacking an ego.
Philosopher embraces cultural inevitability first. He is abetted by never growing up.

Working: Sage
Emoting: Diligent
Empath - Is specialized for interfacing and negotiating with others at the emotional level. He is good at lie-detecting, emotional manipulation, and making others feel good. He is abetted by not being able to reason without consulting his feelings.
Sage - Is good with a lot of information. He is abetted by being emotionally simple.
Diligent - Is good with details. He is abetted by being largely emotionless.
An empathetic thinker can't reason without emotion (which I don't understand anyway), a diligent emoter is "largely emotionless," and a sage type worker is "emotionally simple." Huh?

Snowflake, luckily those descriptions are not from the Ansir site, they are an interpretation of which I found amusing. :)

So please everyone, lend a helping hand, post those Ansir descriptions for the labels.

HEALER™ Thinking Style of Strength
from Step 2: Profile Indepths™
Avid readers, they prefer non fiction and biographies to fiction.
They are keenly sensitive to noise and uncomfortable in messy environments.
"Their fame and repute is more constitution of horse and steel-willed determination than frail and retiring. In fact, they are much more substantial, in every regard, than they appear. Three common characteristics of Healer are: sensitivity to noise, aversion to mess and great need for privacy. Interestingly, Healer is either an avid fan of television and motion pictures, or an avid avoider of such. A propensity for getting too emotionally involved in the human dramas is their commonly cited reason for avoidance. For most people, the term heal connotes with practicing medicine. In terms of this style, heal means an active involvement in some people-benefitting service and practice. Regardless of the scale of their endeavour — science, medicine, arts, entertainment, literature or music; the Healer strength awakens and uplifts the human condition. Removing doubt is their specialty. One peculiarity of this Style of strength is fear of incarceration." ...
HEALER™ Working Style of Strengthfrom Step 2: Profile Indepths™
When they solve problems, they look at its effect and impact on the system as a whole.
They have a natural talent for any field or endeavour where healing is involved.
"These are the ones who change or broaden perspectives. The following excerpts are less specific than indicative of how this Style of strength approaches jobs and tasks. Healers find it odd that when people stub their toe they get angry, curse and through hobbled grimace and gritted teeth ignore the pain. How much quicker the heal if that throbbing toe were held and its pain acknowledged. How much more pleasant the day if the pain were comforted by sympathetic hands. After all, no matter your shoe or the rocky path it is pointed your toe never lets your body down. If small this change in thought does seem, apply it in principle to larger scale living, as Healer would, and note what differences result with change of belief. When the body is sick or diseased the prescribed policy is to view the disease with winner-loser hostility. Rather than stiffening resolve and muscle, and steadying nerve to control the pain, rather than declaring all-out war against the invader, instead try flipping perspectives. Focus light on the body's plight. It is every bit in need of caress as a stubbed toe. Accept the pain. Validate its existence. The body system may be confused as to which is friend and which is foe — the body for allowing disease to enter or disease for daring. Wars are always confusing. As peace follows surrender in war, heal and cure follows surrender in body disease." ...
HEALER™ Emoting Style of Strength
from Step 2: Profile Indepths™
They have a personal and intimate relationship with a Higher Power.
They tend to be highly protective of their privacy.
"Among the wise they rank highly. Their job is the toughest row to hoe; their purpose is to build pathways that lead others to truth of self and being. Their energy field ranges in size from vast, to enormous, making them extra-sensitive to crowding and closeness. They may even prefer sleeping in separate beds from their mate. Prolonged physical proximity rubs abrasively against their sensitive energy-dimension. The Healer strength is disoriented by noise, especially argumentative voices and loud music. Home is their sanctuary — their escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. They are seekers and adopters of new opportunities, as well as authors and promoters of new perspectives. One of the greatest mysteries surrounding this style is why they are so unconfident, when so powerful." ...

IDEALIST THINKING STYLE
* "When these perfectionists reach solution, flow charts, schedules, and procedures mentally form and click into place.
* High stress for them is not being in control of all matters pertaining to them.
"An Idealist mind is a marvel of bedazzling complication and bedizzying speed. Few arrive at solution or deliver it faster than them. While their solutions may not be the only nor necessarily the best, their solutions have proven best enough and often enough to sail global economies. Few experiences return them greater pleasure than creative problem-solving: their gifted-forté. They are the architects of dreams, the managers and overseers who shore-up and bank leading edges that others will later walk. Globally, historically, and evolutionarily, the movers and shakers among us are the ones who aren't easily nor readily pleased: the Idealists. They usually only want (or want for) two things: money and managerial freedom. To have complete control over all aspects of a project is their dictionary-definition of satisfying. They love money and are generally very good at managing it.
KINSMEN WORKING STYLE
* They prefer intrapreneurship to entrepreneurship.
* One word describes them best: responsible.
"Kinsmen are one of the most responsible human resource investments a company can make. Give a Kinsmen a problem, apprise them of objectives, and relax after that — for they rarely let others down. Another attribute of Kinsmen workers is their organizational skill. They gather, organize, and determine a plan with efficiency in mind. Perfectionistic and meticulous, their forté is for arranging and processing details within the context of larger pictures. Risk-taking or innovative solutions may not be their strength; contributing to overall success is. Work is not the driving force in their lives, so working overtime or volunteering to work weekends should not be expected of them. While their need is fulfilled in the serving of others, their satisfaction is beyond the reach or glare of glass domes. They usually prefer assistant over leadership positions. They may have the instinct, but lack the interest for climbing corporate ladders or playing office politics. Teamwork, where collective efforts benefit the whole, is a concept Kinsmen understands at a cellular level. (And why their name is of plural form.) They tend to get along with everyone." ...
IDEALIST EMOTING STYLE
* They like upper-class lifestyles, fast cars, and expensive gifts.
* They measure success by wealth and power.
"While they have tremendous faith in their own abilities to produce and to lead, unconsciously, Idealist fears that unless they take control, all will be lost. Their fear may be justified. The world advances by march of improvement to time's measure. Perfection is crucial to progress. However fair or unfair, the blunt and brunt of responsibility is borne by those who see the highest potential in self and in others, and who demand its fulfillment. No matter what an Idealist does, they tend to think, "...it could be better." They try harder than most people, they feel more responsible than most do, and are harder on themselves than most would be, too. They push impatiently toward perfection, even if beyond the scope and scent of realistic. Their stopping and smelling the roses is unlikely. They would be distracted by stray grass-clippings along the pathway and either overlook the roses altogether or view them through disappointment-tainted glasses. Perfect is a word they seem to have invented and feel personally responsible for protecting. They don't like things to remain the way they are, but strive to improve everything they see and touch, including others in their company. For them, external appearances reflect internal standards." ...
: Idealist - ENTJ/3w2/Self-Confident
: When these perfectionists reach solution, flow charts, schedules, and procedures mentally form and click into place.
: High stress for them is not being in control of all matters pertaining to them.
: They are the most competitive of all, and with their determined, quick-thinking, they tend not to lose.
: These individuals are natural entrepreneurs...and dyed-in-the-wool workaholics.
: They like upper-class lifestyles, fast cars, and expensive gifts.
: They measure success by wealth and power.
: Kinsmen - INTJ/9w1/Serious?
: Family is a common thread running through all they think and do.
: They are gifted negotiators.
: They prefer intrapreneurship to entrepreneurship.
: One word describes them best: responsible.
: They trust intellect over emotions.
: They've a tendency to become over-zealous about new concepts or new ideas.

Evokateur
I found the cube game entertaining. Moreso than the actual quiz. It's fun to write in to other peoples settings.
Took this a few years back:
- Evokateur
- Evokateur
- Evokateur
The other categories that were probably strong were Philosopher, Sage, and Visionary. (I know one of my working styles was borderline Sage/Evok.)
I really hate tests with multi-clause questions like:
You remember events clearly, though not necessarily their right order of occurrence.
If it were two questions, my answer would be:
You remember events clearly: This is me.
...but not necessarily in their right order of occurance: Somewhat not me.
Depending on how my mood and how I want to interpret the question, I'll either answer based on the truth value of the entire statement: Mostly not me. Or by splitting the difference: Somewhat me.
And then there's ambiguous questions, like:
You have healing powers.
Of course I do. These are granted to me by JESUS. They aren't real or anything, but, you know. Some people think they are. Does that count?
And there's the absurd:
Your random problem-solving approach is unnerving for those with whom you work.
...what if that's embraced?
or
You feel personally responsible for staying abreast of global trends concerning individuality.
...
This one is a joke, right?
Also, there's some plain crap, like:
For you, a problem is like a jigsaw puzzle: solution is possible from any given piece of it.
This is a really, really bad analogy. You can't solve a jigsaw puzzle with a single piece of it. The solution may start with a single piece, and multiple interconnecting solutions can also start with other individual pieces. In some more difficult puzzles, there might be many pieces that wouldn't be in any way an optimal starting point. I mean, I get the point of the analogy, (I think), but... It blows.
Anyway, my results:

You always have to ruin things by being so logical. :)
I remember being frustrated with the ANSIR test, and while I found the descriptions useful in a few ways, it seems less solid than something like the MBTI or even Riso's Enneagram.
As you point out, some of the questions were just sort of... ridiculous. ["Um, so just how am I supposed to determine if my coworkers find MY behavior unsettling?"] They either contained contrasting/vague clauses that didn't allow one to pick a clear answer, or they just made no sense.
Same thing with the book. The author came across too fluffy for me, most of the time -- as if she was more in love with her ability to turn and twist a phrase rather than saying something definitive and coherent.

EVOKATEUR Thinking Style of Strength
They are the most creative individuals and often the oddest.
They generally conduct their everyday living with seeming detachment. "For them, being peculiar is more than nature, it is necessity. As north IS, as south IS, Evokateurs ARE the most unusual beings on the planet, bar none. These ones must be peculiar in order to fulfill their life purpose. In everyday life, they generally choose spectator seats or assume sideline positions rather than join others in the fray, play, and decision-making. They prefer the rich fantasies and swirling tapestries of their own chimera to outer world reality, and often conduct their living with a detached remoteness that's less than normal but more than aloof. It's difficult for others to comprehend a world within a world, far less comprehend those who have one. Who among can imagine an internal reality that's more intimate, more satisfying and fulfilling than the reality we know as world and call home ? but it is so, for Evokateurs. There's a good reason for Evokateur oddness. It's the uniform most commonly worn by greatness."
* * * * *
EVOKATEUR Working Style of Strength
When focused they are difficult to distract.
Their creative genius is often unknown to others. "Not even anonymity's generous umbrella can fully hide the truth about the Evokateur strength: it harbours creative brilliance. They learn early in life that it is best to experiment silently and experience privately, for ample-confidence and sample-evidence will be needed to withstand logic's scrutiny, once their endeavours are brought to bear and to light. How readily they share their abstractions and creations with others depends on whether their environment is one of encouragement or discouragement. Their private Evokateur-world is more real to them than this one of ours. It satisfies most of their needs. Creativity is a cellular obsession for Evokateur. Creativity is their default setting. Many look for mundane-type jobs they can perform with one eye shut and mind half-alert. Predictability and routine allow them to put their brain and body on automatic pilot, while escaping into their own world where things are always more interesting."
* * * * *
EVOKATEUR Emoting Style of Strength
To them the world in general is somewhat barbaric, and people, hurried and harsh.
They're extraordinarily cautious about long-term commitments. "An Evokateur does not live with us, or as us, in this world. They are born aware of other depths, dimensions and realities. Others can find these purely emotional beings difficult to understand. Some find the concept of such emotionality interesting, some envy them, but for most people ? nightmares are more welcome. Regardless, emotions rule the Evokateur strength and that means one thing: ultra-creativity. Evokateur-world, just behind Evokateur eyes, is as real for them as this one of ours. Relating to them is multi-frustrating for most, though multi-enlightening for some ? those who understand and experience the Evokateur strength discover that love has more layers than previously realized. Others speak of the extraordinary Evokateur oddness. History speaks of their extraordinary accomplishments. However, extraordinary tends to travel odd paths; those on this or that side of normal. And while they have many lessons to master, pleasing others is not one of them."

Thinking: Evokateur
Working: Visionary
Emoting: Evokateur.
(I know I don't belong in the leadership work role though and this description sounds too extraverted.)
Visionary Working Style
They're driven to do something significant with their lives.
They want to be recognized and remembered for their achievements.
They are the big-picture visionaries whose eyes are so firmly focused on future they hardly notice today's mud at their feet. Brainstorming and think-tanks are typical workplace innovations of theirs and reflective of their solution-curiosity and people-propensity. These individuals are intuitive intellects. Their approach to work and all is different.
Leadership is their natural role.
There is no such thing as disorganization, shoddy workmanship, or close-supervision with Visionary at the helm. They tend to be charismatic and quickly establish good rapport at all levels of interaction, from co-worker, to management, to industry. They are known to be tough, meaning, inflexible about poor job performancetheir own or others'. One difference between them and other leaders is that Visionary encourages workers to independently explore better ways of doing that increase workplace productivity and pleasure.
Visionary is one of only five styles whose fulfillment comes from their work. Based on known Visionary worker nature and performance, Ansir's recommendation: "Visionary, if you choose to ignore that tick-tock, then any job will do and you may even earn acclaim for being successful." Your Work Characteristics include the ability to capitalize on personal and coworkers' strengths. You are also comfortable in making risk-taking decisions.

Not very accurate, especially the part about liking fast cars, wealth, and power (I tend to scorn that kind of stuff).
EMPATH™ Thinking Style of Strength
* By proximity, they can tune into the emotional state of others.
* They are often unaware of their own intuitive power.
"From infancy, the purely emotional Empath strength intuits the world around them. They feel so intensely about everything that others can be confused by the depth and range of their expression — from uncontrollable laughter to inconsolable tears; sometimes both at once. Empath responds quickly and personally to all and environment. For others it can be disconcerting, but for them emotionality is the throne upon which their one-of-a-kind intellect sits. When you know answers but can't explain how, cannibalistic self-doubt can gnaw and weaken confidence. Empaths often doubt their own emotion wisdom and try to be "logical" instead. And for these emotion-intellects it is tantamount to swimming against their own nature. Linear, step-by-step thinking must be taught to an Empath. In school, gold stars of former glory grades often turn into good grief by junior high. This is usually when their academic confidence plummets. Doubt can clip their potential's wings before they even attempt flight and before they test their unique intellectual capabilities. An Empath is often in the dark about their innate gifts." ...
SAGE™ Working Style of Strength
* They may be poor organizers of time and work, but few deliver projects as "well done" as them.
* They are best at finding solution despite confusion or complication.
"Sage likes challenges, the tougher the better. When they settle at their desk, they start where they last stopped, as if sleep or time had not intervened. Picking up threads from where last left-off is part of the mystery of their particular genius. From initial introduction, Sage sees projects as already completed. For them, each component or piece and part is equally important to the whole, so order of completion is irrelevant. They do "all" at once. Sages are not necessarily team players or effective team leaders. They tend to do their best work alone and excel at finding alternatives to current policies and procedures. Organization of self, far less of team members, is often more than they can handle. However, as a team contributor, few prove as valuable or as generous with information. Regardless of the profession they pursue or the corporate role they play, Sage contributes intellectually and socially. They advance workplace success whilst promoting workplace camaraderie." ...
IDEALIST™ Emoting Style of Strength
* They like upper-class lifestyles, fast cars, and expensive gifts.
* They measure success by wealth and power.
"While they have tremendous faith in their own abilities to produce and to lead, unconsciously, Idealist fears that unless they take control, all will be lost. Their fear may be justified. The world advances by march of improvement to time's measure. Perfection is crucial to progress.
