Do INTP's have phobias? Please discuss any phobias you have.
My own include, as a child I used to be claustrophobic. Now my biggest fear now is speaking in public, or in class. I am also a little bit of a germ phobe, not compulsively.
If anyone else has phobias, please list.

I don't like heights.
Love roller coasters tho.

Moths freak the hell outta me...I can see them from about 2 yards away, but anything closer and they make me run.
I've never been stung by a bee...so I have total respect for them and avoid them when I can.
I'm also somewhat afraid of heights, but I can deal with that.

I cannot eat meat. I think I went through something traumatic with it when I was younger. I can eat things like hot dogs or bologna because they don't taste the same.
I find it nifty that I can speak to groups of people without much trouble.

As a child i feared heights, darkness, helplessness, killer clowns, and Pinocchio.
Heights i got over a few years ago by climbing to a look off and just looking down. I got shocked by my nightlight so my fear of the nightlight was more than my fear of the dark so i got used to the dark after that. Helplessness was because since i was young i had sleep paralysis and it sucks to be awake and not move at all, I learned to just wait until it wares off but it hasn't happened for a couple years. Killer clowns was just a movie i watched when i was a 6 years old and i was a scared of that movie. And Pinocchio was because i was told my nose would grow if i lied and i hated that movie for that reason, they used my wart on my nose to back up thier statement as fact.
But i am uncomfortable speaking in public but there is no need for that in my current lifestyle anyways. I still have fears but it doesn't stop me from doing what i want to do. I have this quote i use for motivation, works for me.
"Be fearless or take fear with you."

I remember Killer Clowns from Outer Space. That is the only movie I have ever watched that I considered "truly" scary. If I watch it now though, I would probably laugh. There is a DVD of it.

As a child I was extremely frightened of being assaulted by a clown (I'm not even sure how that thought came about) and people without eyelids (I have never even heard about an eyelid-less person. I think it was a nightmare). Luckily I out grew both of those, and am left being extremely irrationally afraid of frogs and toads (it is to the point that I avoid going outside at night during the summer), and sort of afraid of any and all meat products (probably a result of my rather fanatical vegetarianism).

I've never heard of people without eyelids either, but I've heard of someone without eye*lashes* who used to train at with my old TKD master. He was completely hairless due to some kind of rare condition.

I am severly afraid of cockroaches! Even the word freaks me out. I will never live in Florida due to my phobia. Something like a ghost wouldn't freak me out as much as a cockroach. I don't like elevators that much, but it is not extreme enough to keep me from going in them. For some strange reason when I was little I was afraid of butterflies, probably because I saw a Sci-Fi show where there were these killer butterflies. The would crawl out of dead peoples noses. Freaky no? Cockroaches are the only think I can think of right now that would make me scream. Oh I hate really big bugs such as preying mantiss. I love frogs and toads though. They have the cutess little faces. I was never really afraid of them. Aliens used to freak me out when I was younger. My dad sometimes watch these Sci-fi shows that try to explain aliens really exist and I got realy freaked out. The fear seemed to go away as I got older. I don't really have nightmares about them any more. I would be so scared at night when I was a kid, thinking that they were going to come and get me.

No phobias but some odd behaviors.
I love speaking to groups - it doesn't matter how large.
But I HATE being someplace like in a club or at a party - it is the most uncomfortable thing in the world! Ok I exaggerate. But not much.

Snakes and spiders often freak me out much more than they should given the reality of a situation where I would encounter one. It takes me a few seconds to realize I'm super worked up unnessisarily. Needing to speak in front of groups also ignites all manner of anxiety for me. I'd say that's the most challenging fear I ever have to face.

Yeah, no kidding! Hair's annoying. I wouldn't mind not having any, ever. Being bald isn't a big issue to me. A delivery driver I work with at Pizza Hut has it.
Reptiles creep me out. And I hate touching fish (no matter how tasty they are).
I had avoided bees for 22 years, until I was attacked by 5 or 6 and stung by each one. Now I'm peaceful with them for a few seconds. If their window of opportunity to leave passes though...
I fear my sanity at times, and losing emotional control.

Same here. I don't think I've ever had a nightmare at all. I have had bad dreams where a relative has died (about two dreams, recently *shifty eyes*,) but nothing past that.

I have a hatred, rather than a phobia, of throwing up. No clue why.
Also of people choking. When I was younger, my brother (he was about one or two) choked on something while we were driving. My mom had to veer across three lanes of motorway to help him. Now I hate Gobstoppers and hard sweet 'cause of that ^^

I have OCD and one of the fears I had, was running over people. Every time I ran over a bump, pull out of a parking space too fast etc, my mind tells me that I hit someone, even though there was no one around the car. I was afraid of driving because of it, but it didn't stop me though. One time I was at a store and I pulled out of a parking space a little fast. I didn't hit anything or anyone, but my mind was telling me that I did. There was no one around my car. For some reasons I had an irrational thought that I ran over a little kid, but there was nothing there. I would have felt it if I hit someone. I headed home, but the fear was so intense that I wanted to die. I felt so shaky and sick, even though nothing happened, and I did nothing wrong. Seriously that is how bad it gets sometimes. The driving fear doesan't bother me that much any more. Thank God! That was one fear though that I suffered when I started driving.

Are phobias something that INTPs are really prone to? I was thinking along the same lines the other day; I realized that I am not neruotic. I don't have any phobias or compulsions or other weird behaviors, save one. I usually close things without thinking about it. I never leave the top off a bottle or a drawer open, which is strange because I am a very messy person. But I've always just considered it a habit rather than some sort of 'schism.

I don't like enclosed spaces, e.g. lifts (unless they are sufficiently see through enough...or partially made of glass...)...having said that I also have a fear of heights. So any partially glass lifts can't go too high or I will get out of them just so I don't have to look out.
I don't like flying much....mainly because i'm both enclosed and high up :(.
Most flying insects freak me out. Moths, bees, wasps, flys....they all scare me somewhat. However i'm working on it with the moths....
I used to have an abject terror of dogs when I was younger. I'm much better now, though I feel uneasy still in the same room as one I don't know well.
I also have an unatural squirming whenever I come into contact with seaweed if I go swimming

Have you tried jumping off a cliff and grabbing on to a huge firefly's tail in midair, then driving it by turning its head, in order to reach a particular destination?

I read somewhere that the Ne-Ti axis can easily create unpleasant thoughts, so that, coupled with haunting memories from the Si are probably what create fears for INTP's.
Ditto for the throwing up hatred, although that sort of died away for me, mainly because I haven't thrown up since 4th grade. Heights as well.

I'm just kinda paranoid... but only mildly. It's like "People might be out to get me... but oh well." I'm completely not afraid of some things people I know are totally freaked out by... bugs get no reaction (or I play with them... ever walked up to someone skittish with a wasp on your finger and saying boo? It's great fun...) animals don't bother me...
Everyone should have things that they aren't really afraid of so much as wary. Skunks, crossing the road, snakes that you don't know if they're poisonous or not, etc.

I've no phobia that I can name outright. Although I do get a bit edgy when I realize that I'm not going to live forever...not that death is so scary...I suppose you simply join the majority...it's just dreadfully uncomfortable to realize I cannot begin to exhaust all of the possibilities of life before life ceases.
That is the extent of my phobia.
Roaches and vomit. My heart races and I start sweating. I've actually cried when I heard someone in the next stall vomiting. It's something about being completely out of control that frightens me. Vomiting is the essence of lack of control. Filth (represented by roaches) brings out my mild case of OCD.

I am terrified of any and all arachnids. I am the true arachnaphobian! And I can't spell either! :D. But that's beside the point. Even this morning I woke up and walked past the bathroom door, I turned around and saw that there was a daddy long leg on the door frame. I FREAKED out and screamed, then tried to unclock the door (whipping my hand to the knob and whipping it back to keep away from the spider). It started moving so I freaked out again, so I grabbed a towel, smacked it, both towel and spider dropped to the floor, and I began stomping wildly on the towel hoping that it died in the process.
I really..
really hate spiders.
Also I don't like enclosed spaces or heights.. but same with me, i like rollercoasters :)

I am terribly afraid of roaches. Ghosts and the paranormal wouldn't freak me out like a roach would. In fact I find ghosts to be quite interesting, even though I nevre saw one, but Iwould like to. I used to be extremly afraid of butterflies. It was so stupid. This one time my dad was driving me and my brother to camp. Abuttrfly came int the window. I jumped out of my seat! I was so scared. I don't think I am afraid of them that much any more. I think the phobia came from, when I was little and a butterfly got caught in my hair. Also when I was little a friend of mine showed me a part of a winf off a monarch butterfly. The wing was still moving. Creepy. There was also a show where one episode was about killer butterflies. I remmeber seeing a butterfly crawling out of a dead guys nose. All of those mayhave contributed to my phobia of butterflies. Also praying mantis are scary. There are a lot of bugs that creep me out.

I don't hink any are sever enough to be phobias but I do have a fear of hieghts but it usually involves me imagining my clumsy ass managing to fall over so if it's a plane or rollercoaster or something relativley safe I don't mind. I'm usually very anxious of public speaking but once it gets underway my tendency to ramble saves me and I have fun. As long as I can use my sense of humor or feel knowledgeable for what I'm speaking about it's ok. But no matter what my stomach is tied in knots and I think about it for days beforehand. At least that motivates me to be prepared :)
I'm also kind of paranoid.

No outright phobias. I dislike spiders but not enough to kill them. However two things cause me noticeable anxiety, both for the same reason.
My greatest sources of anxiety are turbulence on planes and most carnival rides. The reason is not what you think. I live in the Pacific Northwest and consequently I know A LOT of people who are present or former Boeing employees. Being that I work in manufacturing myself and I know the conditions and management effectiveness of Boeing (and American) corporate hierarchy, I cannot bear to be on a plane flying through heavy turbulence knowing some pissed-off stoned asshole probably riveted the wings wrong or wired the controls backwards.
Same reasoning for carnival and fair rides, I've known some of the gifted, stable, rational beings that build and run those rides. I can't stand to think I would allow myself to be in a situation where I know my life depends on the effectiveness of carnival management and/or corporate manufacturing techniques.
