I've come to the conclusion that, "To Catch a Predator" is the most creative show in television. Seriously, the whole concept of this show is hilarious.
Anyone else agree?

Anyone else agree? Not that I feel any sympathy for the peds, but the show's not pure enough for my tastes. I can't remember to recite them now but I do remember reading about some of the crap the producers were doing to sorta "sweeten the pot" to bring out prevs for bigger on-camera busts.
I've never been a fan of reality programming but it's all so scripted now, if they're going to do it I'd at least like to see one truly honest moment.
I'll have to think of what's the most creative show. The concept of 24 I'd say is pretty good. Some things they did in first few seasons added to that. American Gladiators was pretty innovative. From a "producer screwed me over" standpoint, I gotta say Power Rangers. People would go in and complain about not getting their check and then have to prove they were really wearing the red leotard mask and show people in AFTRA office some kung fu moves. Sh#t, if I worked there I'd pee myself.
I really liked Soap as a kid, though I'm sure I was missing a bit w/things going over my head but it had some great wit. Same w/watching re-runs of Get Smart. I read this book Chuck Amuck about Chuck Jones and the development of Loony Toons. What struct me was the intricite attention to detail of characterization. Such amazing layering to some of the early ones which many points they were trying to make were lost on subsequent generations of creative folk who worked on them.

I hate to say a remake, but Reggie Perrin with Martin Clune is significantly better than the 70's "Fall and rise of Reginald Perrin".
I stopped watching TV when I was 12 (moved onto the internet, which was more interactive) so nearly all my favourite TV shows are cartoons.
Growing up I was a massive murder mystery fan, and whenever Monk (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0312172/) came on TV I nearly creamed my crotch in excitement.

It's just started here, but don't know when it started in the UK. It's still the first series. Being at least twenty years since the first show means it will probably be new to a lot of viewers, but even so it's definitely better. I like Martin Clune anyway as he most often plays the introverted, extententialist, but this is typical English humour at it's very best.

Now it's Eleanor Clift, Pat Buchanan, & Monica Crowley. (I only started watching in the past 5 years so I dunno if this had changed.) Clarence Page & Mort Zuckerman are on there a lot too. I like it b/c McLaughlin actually makes a decent effort to maintain a balanced panel, and the arguments are well-made for the most part (with the exception of Crowley, who seems to me incapable of forming a sentence other than blatant, gross conservative propaganda). I'm pretty much a news/politics junkie anyways, but this is one of the few commentary shows on TV that doesn't seem already in the bag for one side or another.

I once had the fortune of meeting a programming director with a large network affiliate and I had a very candid conversation about what I thought constituted the most interesting programming from my point of view after being asked about what I thought of American TV.
I pointed out (in a somewhat sensor kind of way maybe?) that I wasn't all that interested in fiction, or light entertainment, preferring reality shows, such as those featuring actual, non-reconstruction footage of various events, documentaries, and reviews.
She was somewhat puzzled, having seemingly never met someone that had experienced everything on bulletin boards, messagegroups and the internet.
Every guy I know likes to watch "faces of death" type stuff, just about everyone is morbidly curious as to various aspects of the human psyche, we're essentially all voyeurs.

There are three shows I watch currently:
1) Breaking Bad -- best TV show at present by far, and Monday's episode was off-the-charts awesome;
2) The Big Bang Theory -- excellent writing, good cast, pretty consistent quality (and Evil Will Wheaton as a recurring guest is awesome);
3) The Simpsons -- yeah, I know the latter years have sucked compared to its heyday, but I've watched the show consistently since before it was a show, when it was just a bunch of interstitial shorts on the Tracy Ullman Show, and I read Life In Hell in grad school in the 80s.
I'm waiting for Weeds to resume in June, as it's a guilty pleasure.
Seinfeld was of course brilliant, but Curb Your Enthusiasm is in many ways even better. It's obvious now that Larry David was the real genius behind Seinfeld.
As for best sitcoms of all time, I agree that News Radio was up there, and Futurama was terrific, but I have to go with the real pioneer in redefining the sitcom as we know it. I watched it religiously as a kid in its first run, and I've loved it as an adult in syndication and now on DVD -- Mary Tyler Moore. TV doesn't get any better than that. Funny, smart, touching.
Mr. Grant: "You've got spunk!"
MTM: (blushing) "Oh, thank you."
Mr. Grant: "I hate spunk."
Genius.
Oh, if you count documentaries, then I would add Planet Earth (the gold standard), Life, The Universe, anything produced by and starring David Attenborough, and of course Cosmos by Carl Sagan.
Oh, and if you count mini-series, then Band of Brothers was the best fucking television series ever. Ever.

The best show on TV, up until season 6 which was complete bullshit, was Lost. I have loved so many TV shows, it makes it hard to pick favorites. I will list some by genre:
SCIENCE FICTION: Caprica, Roswell, Battlestar Galactica. When I was younger, Doctor Who reigned as my favorite science fiction show.
SUPERHERO: Heroes, Smallville. I was once so into Lois & Clark that I would miss new episodes of the Simpsons to watch it, but Smallville is way better.
COMEDY: Green Wing, Monty Python, Sarah Silverman.
CARTOON: South Park, Futurama.
HORROR: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Vampire Diaries. Buffy was my all-time favorite show when it was on the air, but I'm also really enjoying Vampire Diaries. Kindred: The Embraced deserves an honorable mention. It had potential but didn't last.
SWORD & SORCERY: Xena, Warrior Princess. This was probably my favorite show before I started watching Buffy, and it remains my favorite in its genre.
NEWS: Colbert Report, Daily Show. Among the shows I watch regularly, these are my least favorite, and I sometimes fall several weeks behind in watching them. I prefer fiction to news, but these shows make the news more entertaining and help keep me informed, since I don't watch other news shows.

Due to the stand alone episode nature of comedy shows, I only watch them if they happen to be on when I'm watching TV. Which isn't that often. So while I like South Park, Family Guy, etc. I probably only see a handful of episodes a season.
I'm not into Law & Order or CSI, so there goes 75% of the dramas on network television.
I loved Battlestar Galactica. There seems to be no buzz about Caprica, and I have not seen any episodes. It's on my download list. Missed the last two seasons of Lost. Also on my download list.
Looking forward to Dexter (more dl since I don't get HBO).

I saw the pilot and the second and/or third episode. It's not bad, it just mirrored BSG in all the wrong ways: all the ridiculous melodrama and none of the brilliant characterization to make up for it. It may have gotten better as episodes progress.
I've never really been into TV/shows. Don't know why, I just find film in general to be lacking a 'grab me' quality. The first five seasons of House were excellent, the second season of Dollhouse amazing..

I'm a big Joss Whedon fan, so all his stuff. I (almost)unapologetically like Glee. Extras was an awesome series.

Seinfeld, That 70's show.
Current: The Office. Steve Carrel and Rainn Wilson are mind blowing.
Seasons 1-3 were amazing, the show seemed way more genuine and really relate able, and around the middle of season 4 on up it became less of a show about the social awkwardness between colleagues and dumb ed down into more of a lets see the wacky misadventures of Michael Scott.

great show. I think part of the reason I liked it too, was that bill bailey bears a resemblance to tom jenkinson.

Supernatural is -by far- the greatest show of all time.
Great shows that are gone now:
(First season of) Flight of the Conchords, the 4400, and Firefly.
Agree with above, and also Breaking Bad. The writers for these two shows are amazing...

It's funny you say that, because I was just about to recommend "post-sobriety" New House. I caught a few episodes of "Old House" and it bored me. Every episode had the same predictable, flat writing/plot. But now, the writing is zingy and funny, and the plots are more personal. Maybe I didn't see enough episodes of "Old House" and that's why I have such a low opinion of drugged-up House.

Yeah, I stopped watching the show a couple seasons ago as, while the first couple seasons were great, it had become incredibly formulaic. It really needed a change of tempo. I've heard good things about the "New House", but haven't gotten around to seeing if it is worth watching again for myself.

I recommend seasons 1 to 3, when house had the original team, Cameron, Chase, Foreman. House was definitley more interesting, and 90% of the show didn't consist of social life outside the hospital. House is slowly but surely turning into a glorified Grey's Anatomy.

Glad to hear you are getting Sherlock. I was lead to believe the States wasn't getting it ever. Is is rather good. Further I was glad to see it is relatively free from BBC tampering (no odd gender balance, no skewed racial representation, etc. etc.)

Brilliant.
I have to say that Rescue Me has been incredible for the last few years and is easily the best current drama on television.
