View Full Version : New Thread Ideas

How about a thread for suggesting new topics for discussion?

People could test the water, so to speak, and get some encouragement or a thumbs down about their thread ideas.

Some people seem a little shy about starting threads. Others might have too many ideas and need help narrowing them down.

And people with good memories could jump in and point out which ones have been done already.

Could be good for thread quality!

I'll go first! (Any of these are up for grabs btw) :)

What is Love?
What is Truth?
(People here seem to have great insights into abstract concepts.)

Six Degrees of Separation (Could be really interesting if people were willing to share some personal info.)

Subverting Happiness: How Boredom, Curiosity, and always wanting MORE can ruin your life.

Role Models: How we all pick a type of life to emulate--Donald Trump, Van Gogh, Indiana Jones, Martha Stewart, Hugh Hefner, Michael Jordan, Dali Lama, Elvis, Einstein, etc.

I suggest a thread to talk about new thread ideas.

What is the Meaning of Life? I want a concrete explanation!

Wow, getting near the bottom of the barrel?

Maybe you shouldn't start any new threads until you have a better idea of new threads to start.

Just create the thread. There's no need to have a discussion about what thread to create.

And make sure you include a poll with it!

Just create the thread. There's no need to have a discussion about what thread to create.

The point is to provide a space for people who are unsure about a thread idea to put it on the table. Or conversely to create a space to help thread whores be more discriminating.

It's only meant for the extremes. For when a thread starter has doubt.

You have to be able to imagine all the great threads that never were, because someone didn't pull the trigger on it. Edit: I think it would encourage some new voices to speak up.

Or conversely, just notice the number of superfluous threads that could have been prevented ;-)

Also--There is no barrel.

It does seem, sometimes, as though there must -- just by the odds -- be some really good ideas for thread topics, that for whatever reason ( who's assuming now ? ) people aren't venturing to launch.

Not to say that every discarded thought ought to have been posted... There does seem to be a school ( the fish kind ) of thought that homogenity is better. :P In line with this, there's sometimes some comment, early in a thread : "This shouldn't have been made -- or, not this way." Commonalities can be reassuring -- being surprised at unexpected turns of phrase, and opinions is more fun. They're my favorites, at least. ( That's why I liked, e.g. WHEN THIS WORLD BURNS (forums.intpcentral.com/showthread.php?t=3294) )

At risk of being accused, once again, of imagination : I still may make the thread, tragula :P

No, not scared. Sounds a bit like a dare. I like dares! :-)

As to some other posts above--I think this is where the bitching forum reaches out and strangles the rest of the site. If you don't have a productive comment to make, then save your breath and post elsewhere. Is it really so hard? Why should this thread be an exception? I wonder when people are going to wake up and realize that a lot of the time they are just projecting immature nasty Fe.

Hmm. That would make an interesting topic!

The Bitching Forum is for unadulterated insulting. So far the insults have been on topic.

"If you don't have a productive comment to make," was a funny comment, given it's the entire subject of your thread. If you don't have anything intelligent to say then don't say anything...that goes for this thread too.

I don't think so.

The point is that if people want to say "I don't get it"

Or

"I think this is a silly idea"

Then that's fine.

Suggesting that it is a really crappy thread because you lack the imagination to appreciate it is an entirely subjective and uncalled for type of comment. We could all go on about a dozen threads right now and say that, and frankly I don't think you can argue that it would be appropriate.

The Threads that Never Were. It is a romantic idea. Meant to appeal to the less vocal minority on the site. People who might have a good idea, but think twice because they're wondering if a pack of rabid INTP wolves are going to jump on it and tear it down.

By your logic, are insults ok if they are imaginative?
