Look, Normally I would agree with you 1000% excepting the fact that I dont like to go any where for less than a month. But Im just an INTP trying to get by in an SJ world. I am working at rebuilding the shambles that is my life and as such, I really cant take time off to go gallivanting around the world.

BUT

My Mom has bought 5 or 6 acres near a village in Bolivia and has asked me to fly down with her for 1 week to engage my architectural skills in getting her house laid out and roughly designed... and I have agreed to go and help her because she is my mother and I really owe her everything. But it really makes me furious because My mom insists on building this "'family compound" in Bolivia where she can garden and do pottery, but I don't want to live in Bolivia. I want to live by the Sea, and My mothers husband wants to live by the sea and my brother wants to live by the sea, but my brothers wife, Olivia(if you can think of a stupider name for a Bolivian girl please tell me) insists on being near her demented family. So my Mother, a harmony loving INFJ picks and insists on living in Bolivia. All the while I say things like "why should an entire group of proud and noble people bend their lives to the whims of this Andean Trollop?" and then I say things like. "You better be prepared with this piece of land, because I guarantee you that this is the last time I ever set foot in Bolivia, so make this trip count!!!"

And that's because I love Indonesia and the fragrant hills of Bali, and that's where I want to spend my time and effort.

I really miss my brothers dog. Even though he is a Dogo he is really a half breed and not viscous at all and although I rarely miss dogs, I miss him. His name is Hidalgo, but most Bolivians say "What a stupid name. Why not call him Pirata?"

Let me summarize what Im saying here:

1. I really really would come, but I have no time.(making statements like that make my soul hurt)

2. Even though I say things like "That may be as close as I ever get in this lifetime, but you never know.", what I really mean is that my once noble family is steadily undermining my resolve, and Im sure I will end up back there more than once probably in the near future.

She's not indian, she doesn't speak Quechua or anything. She has some Lebanese blood I believe( her paternal grandfather) and the rest is probably Spanish and or Mestizo. Perhaps a bit darker than yourself, Lower middle class, high school diploma, not destitute, not privileged, met my brother while her parents were working as housekeepers in the US.

She is a apolitical with the exception of her pedantic desire for Chile to give back the "stolen" Bolivian coastline. If she had any stance on Evo it would be something like mine: dumb as a rock, not evil, but ruining the country through his stupidity, but probably as good as anyone else they are likely to get.

Yeah, your explanation was very good, thanks. It's just that in Bolivia there is a pretty distinctly racial opposition to Evo and the cities that want their autonomy are referred to as the "white" cities, where the wealthier population lives. From your description she seems to share the more right wing stance. When you said her family was demented I supposed middle class too.

I guess you'll be able to tell us some stories about Bolivia, I'm sure your trip won't be that bad. But you should still think of how you can get away a bit. :D

Talking to MdBA was awesome! No drunk pics, it's a Tuesday night though! :p Tonight we went to Los Inmortales which is a pizza place that all the famous tango singers and argentine film and theater actors used to hang out at. Also Evita. It is on Corrientes Avenue aka "the avenue that never sleeps", because that is where the cultural night life has always been, and where even bookstores close at 2 am. I just realized we didn't take any pictures!!

We had pizza a la piedra with roquefort and fugazetta with ham and cheese. Unfortunately there was no fernet. This must change!

Also I'd like to congratulate my new friend for sitting through a ramble on the history of Peronism. LOL.

Yeah so I 've had too much fernet. Penguinhunter and his gf and I met at this place (in the evening). AWESOME. It's a historical site on avenida de mayo. Typical place where militantsand politicans meet up and discuss poltics. We watched a tango show though. They were a bit loud!! My last Fernet + cokem had like... 50% fernet when it's supposed to be 20%. I think they made a mistake-. Anyway, I had no idea that even affected me until now. WTF:

So on avenida de mayp, this was an avenue where the republicans were on one side of the street and the facists were on the other. During the civil war they'd listen to the radio and sometimes a certain piece of news would make them break out into fights. We were on the fascist side though. Anyway. Fernet. WTF;

attila has had many many fernets. MdBA had some and so did PH. I don't think they disliked it. Maybe PH can tell us a bit when he shows up, but he doesn't know of this thread I think, and he'll be traveling for quite a while longer.

I'm all about fernet! I'm spreading the word in backpaker-world Bariloche at the moment but I haven't had many takers. . . My wife is not at all keen on the stuff, but I'm loving it! It is a very. . . unique taste. . . not unlike how I imagine ancient medicines. . . but then I feel like it has some sort of medicinal value to it. It's definitely a worthy night out theme.

But I think the next few weeks are going to see fernet replaced by Mendoza wines. . . so cheap and so beautiful. . .

Thanks for the link! Safety will be a big issue again very soon, I think. I mean middle class safety of course... because violence invisibly affects the poor sectors every day. I don't think crime can be approached directly when it comes to solving it, the idea of "crime prevention" in itself tells me it's a crime-focused solution. The problems generating petty crime in the country are poverty, slums and cocaine paste that young people consume to evade. More elaborate crimes originate in police corruption and colaboration. Yet more high-scale crimes involve the political and judicial establishment. I'm highly skeptical of any kind of crime prevention that doesn't start from a totally different angle, or that targets only poverty and lumpen-related crimes. But, still glad to know you're uncle's not a fascist. ;-)

Attila can testify that I can drink at least 4 or 5 fernets and still be in one piece, this time the problem was that I also had wine, but I didn't take that into account as I kept drinking Fernet.

Helios and his brothers are AWESOME and we had a great time. On Halloween night, they went to a bar-restaurant in what used to be a mansion from the early 1900s, it was sold and converted into a bar after the 2001 crisis. I had never been there. When I showed up, everyone around was speaking in English. I asked a question in Spanish, which is probably the reason I didn't get a mask or a picture taken the way they did with foreigners. Reverse discrimination. xD Helios & Co fixed it by having me get my picture taken with one of their masks on, lol.

Well they wanted to go somewhere that wasn't a tourist trap (xD) and we just went over to Cuba Mia which is a place where they play Cuban and other latin american music. That's where they ordered Cuba Libres (rum and coke, imperialist beverage! But they didn't know it was called a Cuba Libre!) and I had fernet.

We danced and drank and danced and drank. After that it gets fuzzy. I remember they kept saying "let's go to Paris tomorrow!" LOL, I couldn't just up and go to Paris! xD Anyway I think they had fun, though that's a drunk person's assessment. I just know I was ready to hurl when I was in the taxi. I think I remember someone saying "she's okay", but I kept thinking "what if I open the door and just puke? Would that be bad?" LOL. Too wasted to even get home so I stayed on an extra bed. My bf called me at 9 in the morning furious as fuck because of where I was (he had called home to discover I wasn't there, at 9 am on a Sunday!! Christ!). But on Sunday, after spending the day with the worst hangover this year, I went to his house and made dinner for him, so things are okay now.

I'm gonna catch up with them again tonight it seems. :D

It was nice, the place even had a library, though we didn't figure out how to reach it (it was visible on the second floor). We sat at the pool area, where there were a bunch of strange characters and also people making out (well, actually there are people making out everywhere we go, lol). Met a guy from Africa that knew French, English and Spanish, also Portuguese and Arabic (and he was in Bs As to play at casinos - guess who's rich and doesn't have a job, lol). Anyway! We (edit: my sis and I) tried SoCo there for the first time. Damn that stuff is good!

Then that place closed around four AM so we went to a nearby place with a red door, which Gibraltar reccomended. We asked what it was called and they said "red door", haha. That was okay, except we were harassed by some weird gypsie guy who was like trilingual. WTF! Since when does everyone know so many languages! We spoke French twice that night!

Well, then THAT place closed so we went to a place right in front of the Obelisk and had breakfast as the sun came out. Not many places open at that time in the morning. Btw who eats hamburgers and fries for breakfast...? Americans! xD Heheheh.

It was lots of fun. Helios and his brothers will probably be sleeping most of the day and are leaving tonight. I'm gonna miss them! Especially Helios! I hope he comes back, I think he liked Baires, so it's possible. ;)

They told me last night that when I left Cuba Mia I just sat down on the sidewalk and didn't want to walk anymore. I HAVE NO RECOLLECTION OF THAT. I was shocked, because I never got so drunk I forgot what I did. They were nice and didn't tell me about any other embarrassing stuff I may have done. I suspect I might never find out.

Piling up in taxis was funny yesterday. We'd squeeze in all drunk and pretend we didn't know there was a 4 person maximum. They'd complain and say the police would fine them. We'd just offer to leave a tip and they'd take us anyway. If they hadn't been speaking English the cab drivers would have kicked our asses out for sure.

I wish I hadn't given my number to the rich Central African Republic guy. He asked for it and I couldn't say no. Now he's gonna call but I don't wanna date him! And he complained to us that Argentinean women are "des folles" (loose, I guess) and that they "just want to fuck" and then not see him again. His theory is that it's because he's black. I tried to say women are just like that here (lol, like that makes it any better) but anyway, I heard this same theory from a Jamaican guy here once too. Today I ignored a strange number on my phone, thinking, "Not already!!" and it turned out to be a client, who gave the job to someone else. Eeeks.
