According to population stats, it's supposed to be 10% lefties, 90% righties.

I am left-handed and it can be a pain sometimes. I had a harder time passing the driving test than my right-handed obnoxious brother. Things seem akward for me when I am trying to do things that are made for right handed people. I feel so dumb when I am at work and I am struggling a little bit because of my left-handedness. People used to believe that left-handed people were weird. Oh well.

i'm a left-handed ambidextral
(i just found out that ambidextral isn't in the webster dictionary. if it wasn't a word before (i'm pretty sure it was) it is now, otherwise i'd have to say i'm left-handedly ambidextrous. that doesn't sound right)

I do a lot of things with my left hand that I can't do as efficiently with my right (open bottles, etc.), I often find myself using both hands to get something done faster.

Trained right-handed. You know how people had this idea they should produce strictly right-handed kids...? :P
I do think though that if I was left alone to develop my hands' ability on my own, I would be left-handed. There is a lot of things that my left hand finds easier to do than my right hand and there is a lot of stuff I do with my left hand better than most people are able to do with their "wrong" hand.

No, regular qwerty works ok. I can't type very fast anyway, so it's really not much different.

:( That's really bad. I dunno how old you are, but if you aren't too old you might try your left hand in writing.

i write crappy with both hands but more comfortable writing crappy with my right hand. My left is stronger because that hand i use for catching because i throw with my right and when i lift bags of grocery in i fill my left hand first then grab what i can with my right. But i am right handed.

To the left-handed, ambidextrous people: if you are left-handed, then you are not ambidextrous.
Perhaps, but for the tools out there that don't facilitate the use of either hand (such as scissors or most musical instruments), lefties often must make greater compromises and can thereby claim attributes of ambidexterity. :sombrero:

I think you've got your logic a little backwards Odd One. Almost all right handed people catch with their left hand and use their right for throwing. Throwing requires more strength and fine motor control than simply catching. Same with the groceries. Most right handed people want their right hand free for fishing for keys, working door handles and similar finesse moves.
You can often tell people that are not at all ambidexterous by watching them eat. See if they cut their food using their primary hand to hold the knife and then switch their fork over to the primary hand to eat.

Ambidextrous - I was initially left-handed but forced to become right-handed when I started school. Some of my ambidexterity is natural, some of it is learned. At the age of 8 i thought it silly to use only one hand, so, I consciously decided to balance out the bias by using both hands (and both sides of the brain) equally. I use my right hand to write, all other tasks is a flip of the coin - the preference is unconscious, and I do switch from one day to the next. But, I think the bias overall goes to the left.

You have coined two new terms in this discussion. Ambidextral and sipp. That would make both your posts significant. :)

This is interesting to me, since a large part of the world drives on the left side of the road, and a large part on the right. I wonder who has it harder on average.
I am right handed and change gears with my left. I never considered that it might have been harder or easier if I was left handed

Lefty. I always understood that left handed people used the right brain hemisphere, which provides creativity. From Lenore Thomson's book, she claims that Ti, Ne, Fi and Se are all right hemisphere type functions, which learn best from experience.

I am right handed but always use a mouse left handed and often use a fork with the left hand. When I was little, I really wanted to be a left-handed hitter but I couldn't do it because I started to late. It wouldn't have made any difference because I sucked at baseball anyway.

Interesting point you make. If I remember correctly, the right brain hemisphere is associated with intuition as opposed to left brained sequential thinking. In "Personality Types", Riso and Hudson make note of the 5W4 subtypes propensity towards intuition and comprehensive vision - otherwise more right brain thinking (as opposed to a 5W6s propensity towards more sequential thinking). And, I believe I've read on the Personality Page that growth for an INTP is through experience.

I am ambidextrous, and as far as I know, this is highly unusual. I know that the number of people voting here is statistically very small, but isn't it still odd that so many have selected "both"?

Ok, I have this whole book on Lefthandedness.
You can have left tendencies all over the place. I am left handed, but right sided. You can be left or right sided, have a dominant eye, ear, etc.
I write and do all of the things that require dexerity with my left hand. But my right hand and side is stronger. So I play sports right handed. I bat right-sided, kick soccer with my right foot, throw the basket ball with right hand etc. It wasn't just training either, I naturally, feel better doing it that way because my right hand and foot are stronger. I am right sided.
Confusion can occur at the middle point. I play ping-pong with my left hand. I've given up on tennis, because it takes the dexterity of my left hand (and arm) and the strength of my right. My left arm isn't strong enough and my right arm isn't sophisticated enough. So I stand there wondering which hand to use? This happens with a hammer, and all sorts of other things, that pop up and surprise me at times.

Left handed mousing? Did anyone else catch that one?
;P
I write right, but I shoot pool as a lefty. I shoot pool a lot. Started in college shooting right, then I practiced shooting as a lefty and became as proficient. I could switch and shoot well either way. I stopped playing for years and when I began again, left felt more comfortable. Go figure. Everything else is righty though.

Semi-Ambidexterous Lefty here. My left hand is most skilled of both hands, but I use my right hand for picking (guitar), mousing and certain other precise tasks.
I dont think of myself as a creative person in an art sense, though I do like to draw symbols and make logos as well as various angular 'interface' doodles. I do know some righty SPs who are far better at art then I am, therefore I dont think that left-handedness means creativity.

Left handed, left footed. If I'm going to kick something, it's usually my left foot, but I can do so with my right just about the same, feels more comfortable with my left though. Snooker/pool, I play left handed. Tennis, cricket, baseball... ambidextrous.. I'm equally crap with both hands and switch whilst playing. Scissors... I can use with both hands (I had special left handed scissor for school.. had to buy them myself).
Driving I think is neither for left handed or right handed people.
But what about this article: Left Handers are better fighters (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/4073775.stm)

I can't shake a spray paint can with my right hand or do the hand movement for calling someone a 'wanker'... left handed though.
