Since we don't have a land-line in the house, and the Tivo wants to make a daily call to check for updates I figured there's got to be some way to just have it get the updates over the internet. It's got USB ports on the back, so I did a little research, bought an USBtoEthernet stick, and found out how to "hack" the Linux OS on it to get it online. Great. Did it. I can telnet into the box and everything.
But it turns out, if I update this "hacked" version I run the risk (most likely) of hosing the entire system so it won't boot.
Great. :banghead:
So now I've got a Tivo that is slightly outdated - but I can telnet, ftp, and copy video streams to my laptop.
Is anyone else screwing with these things? What else should I do with it?
