Can Mods/Admin delete PMs without notifying the user beforehand?

Yes, but not induvidually and only Admins. It would be an all at once delete.

As far as my knowledge, no admin has ever done one.

OK, so when a person deletes their user account is a likely situation for deletion of all PMs.

But is it then that Admin are allowed to do so without permission from an active user? (I know you say it's never happened before, but in a hypothetical situation what would happen?)

it could be done without permission(although it seems like an unlikely event), but it would be bizarre to do that since someone can just delete their pm's on their own

Ok, thanks for the answer. :)

Hypothetically yes, we could delete individual or groups of pms. Most admins can only do all at once, but technical admins who have direct access to the mysql database _could_ in theory go through the trouble of deleting individual PMs, but it would take substantial effort for things we honestly don't care about...so there would be no point :).

:) That's cool. I'd hate for it to be, "Oh no! I must fear the possibility of deletion of all my hard earned PMs!" (or something).

Er, don't you download your PMs ? I can't say that they're ever that important, but I generally download both lots ( inbox/sent ) in all three formats --- xml, csv, txt --- before deleting as many as possible in order not to reach the overflow cut-off.

Once they're on your HD it's as easy to look up an older one as to go to your messages folder...

Ah, I guess people are starting to think I place a high significance on maintaining PMs or something...Nah, I was just curious. I also know that it can be converted into those other formats.
