I bought a Wacom tablet a while back and I finally knocked the dust off and gave it a try. I still would rather use a real paintbrush/canvas for finished works but, the Wacom isn't too bad for experimenting with. Here's a black and white image I painted in Photoshop:

Very nice. I've been wanting to get a tablet for years, but unmotivated to do anything about it. It's frustrating to edit photos with the mouse.

Strange, I just made a thread on N Central to see if anybody had any experience with them. I'm thinking of buying one, and I was wondering what some of the pros and cons are.
I like the dna smoke in your painting too.

Reminds me of the owner of the independent lab I work for. The owner is a retired molecular biologist. This is what he does all day - sits, smokes and ponders various ways to modify PCR based viral tests.

I have one. My wife bought it for me about 6 or 7 years ago(?) and it still works great. It's the 1st gen Intuos 9x12. I know the new ones are supposedly better, but I have nothing but good things to say about this one. I don't have a mouse on my desktop, just a pen. After having a tablet, any imaging with a mouse feels like painting with a brick.

The disconnect between were I paint a stroke and where it shows up still messes with me. My brain is fighting it big time. Its frustrating yet it is getting easier the more I use it.
Oh, the character is drawn from Basil Rathbone who played Sherlock Holmes in the old black and white movies. When I think of Sherlock Holmes I always picture him.
I was on another forum where they had a themed daily drawing contest you could post to. The theme for this one was "Criminal Investigator".

I have a 9x12 one. I like it a lot. It's not the latest version, but the one just before that. Do you use the program Painter? It's really cool if you have a Wacom tablet. It's still not like using actual brushes and paint, but I think it's about as close as you can get.

I do my drawings with the old fashioned utensils, but have thought many times of augmenting these tools with 21st century technology, or doing pieces that are entirely computer graphics oriented. The "painting with a brick" thing was what made me hold back, along with the cost, of course. I was pleased to hear about this new improvement. What do they run price-wise?
The smoker piece reminds me of a favorite Magritte piece where the guy is inhaling his pointed nose into a pipe. K
i have an intuos2 6x8.
and rarely use my mouse. (brick drawing, yes)
i paint with it, but i also paint with real paint. the two mediums are different wich each their own con's and pro's.
