We have a woodchuck(groundhog) that lives across the street and over the hill. He came out this morning for breakfast and I was able to catch him on video. I was not too happy with the sound of the wind for backgound so I added some Led Zeppelin. I also trimmed off alot of the footage where the wind really shook things up.

Here's the link: woodchuck.mov (http://home.insightbb.com/~chuck.coleman/woodchuck.mov)

You'll need the latest Quicktime installed and it's roughly 2 minutes long at 3.8meg. That's the smallest I could compress it without loosing too much detail. If you're bandwith challenged(dial-up) it may take a bit.

I've attached a frame of him below:

That is really cute. I've got to learn to do those movies with my digital camera, there is an online thing called "just press" that I'd like to try too. Do you have a program on your computer that converts it to a movie, and are you using a video cam or a digital cam?

Anyway, cute movie.

Anyway, cute movie.I have a Canon ZR45MC digital video camera and I use Apple's iMovie which came on my Mac. There's a firewire cable that connects the camera to my Mac and iMovie captures the video and lets me edit it.

Where I grew up in Colorado they were called Whistle Pigs.I did not know that. Cool. You learn something new everyday.

I've never been able to get close enough to one to hear what they sound like. Do they make whistling noises?

Yes. And you do not need to be very close to hear it. They are very loud.
If there is more than one around and you startle it, it will let out a series of short shrill whistles to warn the others.

From time to time (s)he wanders onto the road and we chase him/her back over the hill(so (s)he doesn't get hit by a car). (S)He never makes a sound though. But, then again, there's only been two occasions where I've seen him/her with another woodchuck. It's a smaller one. I'm not sure if it's a mate or a child.
