I did this about a year ago (July 29, 2003 [apparently - I looked up the 'last modified' info]). Of course, I never finished it. I've toyed with the idea of writing an entire CD (15 songs, 2 articles per song) based upon the following:
Each stanza is inspired an article of the "Universal Declaration of Human Rights" which is a wonderful doc. Stanza 1 is my take on article 1. Stanza 2 is article 2, etc... I was in a certain mindset when I started and could probably elaborate if asked. I'm good at bs'ing.
Anyways, ...
This gift of freedom makes us all chuckle inside
A useless synonym for what we really employ
Some type of reasoning to justify the lies
Another head in the sand as our brothers die
The labels are justified and endless in name
No matter what we do it always ends up the same
Categorize what isn't always true
A new lexicon to reason with the new
No healthcare to hold us in our prime
Education isn't always worth the dime
Security is a sham and for some reason we don't mind
An excuse to be arrested without commiting any crime
Get a job, pray for a raise, become another slave
Go home to media that nitpicks upon our makes
Yet some form of freedom?
Have we all gone insane?
Ridiculed by peers, assasination by our teens
Go home and cut yourself, find pleasure in the bleed
Inbred in the schools, and reinforced in the malls
It's no wonder there's so much blood in the halls
Army dogs, pigs in suits
Ass in office, the rat race pursues
If we weren't so miserable to each other
I really might complain
Equal protection if we eliminate the social breeding
Blame the nature of the being
So much for understanding when the bias is in place
Call the violators "terr'ists," win the next presidential race
Effective remedy is to store the violators in cages
Make them work for ridiculously low wages
Let their bitterness and hatred grow
Then let them lie until they get out, where they exercise what they know
A little pot gets you far too long in prison
Abusing corruption means you pay for your wisdom
Paid the debts and still get banished to social outcast island
The flames grow taller, and forced to live on my land
Fair and public puts on a freak show, and we tune in
Rack up the dollars by advertising who will win
A formal bet starts a trend as we all laugh
Another man is cast upon and thrown in the trash
First line of authority beats the innocent to a pulp
As his family watches video with only a dying hope
Some public defender assumes the worst in his actions day to day
Another innocent alienated by the ones he pays
Property rights are given away under current law
We are accused by what a third party thinks they saw
A closed door means nothing if it offends another
Does another's business really leave you in wonder?
Allowed to leave, but not allowed to go
An open door leads to another foe
No choice or permission that gets you very far
Forced to be contented in exactly where you are
