Saw it on the news today. She did look awfully good there and I wasn't even looking at the screen-- just barely glanced over. It was more what she was saying and doing. I like her as a spokesperson for shit that matters. Nice play, Lady Gah. I approve.

I don't see it holding very long with this type of assault. It's amazing it's even been implemented.
It's like. All negroes would have to wear hijab if they are to enter the force.
Sometimes the US really disgusts me.

She seemed to be more articulate then in past statements I've heard her make. A Larry King interview where she seemed intentionally to be "mysterious". It's a sad thing that Lady Gaga is a voice of reason but to her credit she is trying to be that.

The Pentagon review will come back in December and will mention that a sizable percentage of US military personnel would not be comfortable serving alongside openly gay servicemen and women and the GOP will use that as justification to keep DADT enforced for years to come.

Every time something almost gets done, and it IS what the people do want, then the gestapo machine gets activated again. It never fucking fails. She most definitely IS the voice of reason and has had many heads of state and the military tell the same tale. The amerikan gestapo laffs at our blatant attempts at democracy over and over. Freedom fail. No one is uncomfortable except for that machine full of middle aged old men whose sexuality was never very solid to begin with. Fuckers.

I'm sorry but if you have moral connundrums about where some guy you work with puts his dick in his spare time, what the fuck are you going to do when ordered to start shooting missiles into a village?
It's the military, people. If you order them to shut the fuck up, THEY DO. If you order them to kill somebody, THEY DO. If you order them to stop worrying about fags...THEY WILL!!!
"I don't wanna hear nothing else about faggots or butt pirates getting a hard time from you grunts or I will have you cleaning latrines for a month, is that CLEAR?!?"

I'm just curious about the logistics of it all if and when it goes through. When women were admitted to combat and combat support units, there was a division of living areas, communal areas, rest rooms, showers, etc. It was a significant effort to duplicate everything for both genders. Will this have to be done for gays as well? Will we need 4 different showers? ... male, female, gay and lesbian? How about living arrangements? I've not heard this considered anywhere yet.

What does anyone expect from such a reactionary and inherently conservative organisation as the military?
The military's first purpose is always the enforcement of the social organisation of the status quo, tacitly and overtly against internal and external threats to such orders. In capitalist systems this simply means, at heart, the military is the enforcer of property rights and the power of the political and economic elites, the legitimised source of violence in a society. Such an institution requires members who are fully committed, either before joining or after indoctrination, to such a society.

On driver licences, passports, bathrooms etc you now only have two legal separations. female/male and age. You can't separate outside of this if one is not to come off as a hypocrite if one think the law makes sense in this regard. And these arrangment is already in place. Gaga have proposed a new law that effectively deals with what you bring up.
"Our new law is called - If you don't like it, go home"
Or else they should change their laws so that the passport reflects if one is male, female, lesbian or gay.

I think its reasonable to expect people to behave with their cloths on or off and there is no need for duplicate living arrangements.

You are not a soldier if you can't take an order. All you need do is give the order. "THIS INSTITUTION IS NOW PRO-GAY - REPEAT AFTER ME..".
So this whole thing rest on a few bigots up in the system who decides what orders to give.

It isn't that simple. The US armed forces are just like any other organisation in that there is a layer of informal power structures that complement and subvert the official structure. Also armed forces are more democratic than those outside them believe them to be.
Anyway the US armed forces have tolerated homosexuals since 1947 when the USAF came into being.......

Why would you need extra showers? The male/female divide works fine, even in areas with plenty of openly gay people. Shit, in the dorms at Cal, we only had one bathroom. Guys, girls, gays, whatever.
Being naked in front of someone is being naked in front of someone. There is no guarantee that they aren't attracted to you no matter what anyway. Plus, it's not like gay people are attracted to every single member of the same sex.

The nationalists in the Spanish Civil War specifically would broadcast by radio the fearsome raping capacity of their Moorish mercenaries - such amplification of fear could be more than effective in countries with strict moral prohibitions against homosexuality.

Yes, that is my experience as well. While a heirarchy of command exists, there are a lot of informal power structures that require consensus building. Soldiers will not necessarily follow orders if they don't trust and believe in those above them. Try ordering someone to attack a machine gun nest if they don't trust you enough to believe that you'll do your best to keep them alive. Also, the armed forces are a cross section of people all across the country. Some of them don't believe in gay rights and that will cause a problem that the military will have to deal with in some way other than just issuing orders that won't be followed.
I had a gay mortar section sergeant in my troop during the first gulf war. He was a first class soldier who did his job impeccably. He also earned the respect of most of the soldiers in the unit. He did suffer some jibes and comments both behind his back and to his face however ... despite orders to cease and desist. Some could not see past the orientation.

Agreed. In my experience in the military a lot of people have some quality (or lack thereof) they get mocked for on a daily basis. If you can't take being ripped on day in and day out get the fuck out of the military. Unfortunately, the military has this way of arbitrarily enforcing rules with extreme prejudice. There are already rules in the UCMJ about calling people a faggot or a dyke, (as well as rules against having sex at work) and it will be the typical cycle of everyone doing something and then one person who is a shitbag (or at least perceived as one by the SJs in charge) getting sent to NJP and being made an example of. Whenever they institute this, there will be a clusterfuck, but it is necessary.
