Basically I have an art and photography website that I need to promote. A lot of people here seem very web savvy to say the least. So any good ideas for driving traffic to an art portfolio site are appreciated. Good directories to try and get links from, etc.

I've done a few websites for different things, one of them fairly popular in its day. But for some reason my portfolio site is stuck in the mud in terms of getting hits.... sigh

So anyway, I'm getting ready to make the transformation from caterpillar to butterfly (or moth). Sort of spread my wings and ditch the whole starving unknown artist routine for one of... well--for now just something else.

Any general publicity ideas are welcome too. Right now I'm doing postcard mailings to galleries to try and get a show... Wish me luck!

(It's probably a bit ironic to be asking INTPs for promotion ideas...but.)

what market are you after?
irc is a good place to get a following if you know who you want to show
is there a place you want coverage in?
are you mostly after money?
do you have any specific genre?

you could always have an art show yourself, and sell some of it off. i am more than welcome to help you plan it all.

some of your art looks nice

coffee houses always have room for art space

You know I can't seem to hop on to this irc thing actually... I've tried a couple times and it didn't work. I think it's because I use a Mac with OS9. Until I update my computer I think it's not going to work.

I think what I'm after right now is attention and recognition. And maybe a little money. Which sucks because I'm terrible at attention (don't care for it), and money (don't really care for it either ;-)

Hmm. Coffee houses. I'm not the type to walk in and talk to the manager. I suppose I could add some coffee/restaurant spaces to my mailings with a little note about hanging my art.... not a bad idea.

Also not the type to have a party and invite my friends (friends?) and acquaintances over to say nice things about my work and get them to part with their cash.... No, not me at all.

Now, a group of artists could probably pull that off quite nicely.

Start a controversial literary magazine and do the illustrations yourself. Anonymously, but so everyone knows it.

i was thinking more, hire out a hall, get some excellent wines, get a few friends to make some nob type fingerfoods and invite many people down to it(high class invitations)
