View Full Version : So how'd you do this semester?

I haven't gotten my grades back yet .. not sure what to expect. I dropped two of my classes so I only had two left. I missed a TON of classes, but then again, I still did pretty good on tests. And hey, after all, it is just community college -- I would still go to class and think "oh man that person is a moron" -- and they study! Hah! Suckers!

I could have gotten anywhere from 2 Fs to 2 Bs. Who knows. I'd be happy to pass both classes.

How about you?

I'm upset over my grades just a bit. I hate that my GPA this semester is the exact same one as last semester's. I was hoping for improvement. (Yes, my perfectionism is showing here)

I loved all of my classes except Spanish. I killed myself twice over studying, memorizing (I hate rote memorization), and practicing conversations for hours a day. That was one class I didn't mind skipping as much as possible (couldn't get away with more than two; she counted attendance. bah).

I was into the whole gradual improvement thing myself, until I lost all interest in school.

I had spanish too, but thankfully it came pretty easy because I took 3 years of it in junior high and high school. I missed more than two days per WEEK pretty reliably there at the end of the semester, and that was the latest class in the day. World issues was the earliest and man, I probably made it to 4 classes in the last month or so. Thankfully that was also fairly easy because I watch cable news constantly. :P

World issues sounds fun. I'm going into political science (perhaps international), so I'll eventually cover a lot of that stuff in my future classes.

I took Spanish in high school for only two years. I had a terrible time in high school because I just wasn't interested in the whole SJ-environment, and so I took only the minimum requirement. Had I taken one more year, I wouldn't have had to take any foreign language in university (beat myself up about that this entire year).

And you're very lucky. Twice a WEEK? Jeesh... I suppose it doesn't really matter as long as you know the material. The cool thing about my professor was that she'd give us major hints for what material to study for the tests (very blatant hints) --saved my ass.

Did you go to college for one year, or have you been going for some time, and just now decided it wasn't for you?

Hm well, I took spanish I once, did crappy, took it again, got a C or something, took spanish II, did crappy, and then just stopped. I've pretty much always been a bad student in general. (but predictably for an intp, done well on tests and stuff)

Hah, yeah, actually missing 3 or 4 days (out of 4) per week was getting pretty normal in the last few weeks.

Yeah I started last summer. drama described in-depth here: http://www.intpcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4310

I have no faith in the GPA system, especially when in my case it only measures scores on standardized multiple choice exams and group projects. Although my own grades are alright, it scares me to think how the most incompetent people end up being in the top 5% of the class just by memorizing a few details.

I got Cs in a few classes in high school as well. Spanish being one of them. I was a terrible student majority of my HS years. I never studied, never got along with most of the teachers (I had some major conflicts with them!), did poorly on assignments (busy work sucks), and strangely enough, I did well on enough tests to let me get by with semi-decent grades.

Whoa. I read it all, and I gotta hand it to you for having the guts to go back to school. I don't know if I were in your situation, that I would go back. At least you gave it a go and didn't balk at trying it again.

Had to drop a class... came out with a 2.5 for semester. Retaking a class that I bombed first semester over the summer.

I have nearly a 4.0 GPA. This is very much a 180 from 6 years back, the first time I attempted college... I dropped out with a 0.2 GPA (No that is not a typo and I didnt mean 2.0... I really did have a ZERO POINT TWO...) That's the same grade Flounder got in Animal House...

A's in both classes, first 4.0 semester in a few years but also my first semester back after a few years. I think I'm more motivated this time around since I've finally realized the value of a college degree. Only took 5-years of being stuck in a job with no chance of advancement unless I got some form of higher education.

And he only got that because we had Poli Sci together and I got him a C by making him study.

He showed up for one final and the teacher asked who he was...

No grades ... I got out of school about 22 years ago the first time ... 10 years ago the 2nd time. I often wish I was back in school. Those were some of my happiest times. Unfortunately, the pay sucks.

Despite the fact that I bombed out I had quite the social experience. I learned alot about people in general (and partying which up until college I had never drank so much as a beer), so I suppose it wasn't a complete waste...

I got an A-. I only had one class. It was Art History. I know that sounds easy but the currve was brutal and the test were fairly difficult.

I got an A in Art History this semester. That was tough, what with all of that memorization of dates. Definitely not a blow off class.

3.25-3.5 this semester (four classes). Putting more effort into it would have been a sin (it's impossible to be fully engaged in something I'm forced to learn, and I have no desire to change in that respect), I'm satisfied with the results.

I've long since finished my coursework, so I didn't get any grades this semester. However, I did adjunct a State and Local government class this semester. I gave 4 As, 3 A-s, a B+. 4 Bs. a C and a D+. As to "how I did," the evaluations won't come back for a while.

This was actually the best term since my 6th grade year when I got straight A's. I'm a 26 year old junior in college, at U of FL studying business administration. I basically did nothing but work and study this term and managed to pull off a 3.8 taking 12 credit hours. this is partially due to the fact that I was unemployed for about 1/3 of the semester and really got ahead of the game for a while. As it got to the end of the semester I felt like a race car approaching the finish line out of gas with everyone else about to run me over. But hey I puled it off. Now i'm taking finance, and I'm dreading it. It's been years since I've had an accounting class!!

So far...

Psychology:
- 12/15 for online multiple choice test
- 18.5/30 for lab report (done the morning it was due)

Sociology:
- 9.5/15 for an essay (done the night before it was due)

Crime & Criminal Justice:
- 19/40 (done the morning it was due, it received an extension of a few days, and I didn't touch it other than one or two shitty sentences)

My aims aren't much higher than just reaching 2nd semester. I've already realised that I don't like University for anything more than Psych lectures and the library. Meh.

I also didn't go for my Sociology tutorial presentation because I don't want to have to present and run the discussion. I didn't go the week after either. I was at the tute today and the tutor is letting me do the presentation next week. Meh. I really don't want to. I'd be fine with having to do an essay instead.

Just finished my bachelors too... well i will... on Monday 7pm i'll be done.
That is, if I can finish writing this one last paper... ARGH.

Cumulative GPA 3.17... maybe 3.18 depending on how well I do this semester.
Major: business admin.

I think its the only major that, combined with my slacker tendencies, I would able to pull more than 3.0 in. But i do regret not studying chemistry/physics... maybe I would have done something I might have actually enjoyed.

Another 4.0 semester for me. Surprising since one of the classes was horrible and I half-assed my way through it (Legislative Process). Ah well, this is good for me. So far I've maintained a 3.9 GPA. Got one B last semester that fucked everything up :(

I am about to bomb out. But I may reach into the below 2.0 range somewhere. Did you transfer? Was finding a school that understood difficult? Change would be great. I hope you have good news. 0.2 is very impressive.

My major has been English, Psychology, International Relations, Biology, English again, Psychology again w/ a minor in English. Its an up and down schizophrenic mess.

So far in c00lege I've found that learning 90% (A-style) of what's taught in the "know things" classes is almost automatic. Of course I have to do some work in math, since it's practice-oriented. And I'm looking at a B in English because the teacher's an SJ. Once I get into the art-zone, It's smooth sailing.

Unbelievable. Still have my 4.0 GPA.

God, what a terrible semester!!

If anyone recalls, I had the 52-yo ESTJ crazy team mate (she's prob an average E8 as well). I was team lead, and the other 2 team mates were very quiet Introverts of some kind or other. What a mess. Anyway, we survived. (One project lasted the whole semester, but we made it!)

We all had to write an eval of each member on our team. I was as objective as I could be. I found I couldn't communicate with this ESTJ after a few weeks and I think she had a number of barriers as well--very ESJ, very Boomer-centric, very Manager-Employee (vs team, there is a difference), and very reliant on her ability to bully her way thru things.

One of the Introvert team mates pointed out that the ESTJ had probably never been on a team of 30+ yo working-adults. She probably had no problems bullying & snowing the 18-22 yos with limited work experience. Not that the "kids" didn't catch on: mention her name, and all the undergrads would roll their eyes.

Professor wrote to tell me my evalution was very good and she had learned a lot about managing students. I guess so. Wonder if I should tell her to go read up on personality type theory?
