Okay, i've recently taken up origami and I really like it so far :)

It's my most recent attempt to cure my boredom....and has so far overtaken learning Esperanto, juggling and trying to play the guitar.
So, as I have yet to find a suitable musical instrument for me (as I would love to play something...) I looked to this for some enjoyment.

Does anyone else do origami?

It's loads of fun.... but it's since been overtaken by other activities :)

what type of things are you folding? (the usual swans? or something a bit more exciting?)

this is a strange site, but they have some pretty neat ones if you can find them : http://www.oriland.com

Just a few cranes, a rabbit and a pureland t-rex

Basicly all the easy things ^_^

I learned how to and did a few, but that was when I was around 10 and I haven't done it since. Unless you count randomly folding pieces of paper that I found lying around into wierd shapes.

I tried finding instructions for making a crane on the net, but none of them make sense to me.

I only know how to make cranes... :( .... I had a friend in high school who was making a thousand, which I thought was a neat idea... I only have a couple hundred so far, though....

There are a couple sites that have a pretty good description... I think I have them bookmarked somewhere, but I'm not at home right now... maybe I could help you out with some instructions... PM if you're interested, or I'll check back here....

Ever looked into dollar folding? It's a bit silly across the pond, and I don't know if they have a corollary... but I like it. There's a lot of things you can do with different sizes/shapes of paper... some of the origami flowers, if they have radial symmetry, can also be folded from equilateral triangles or regular hexagons, to change the number and length of the petals. I'm... kinda what you might call "into" paperfolding in general. My favorite is still the (in)famous Origami Boulder.

This is the best one I have come across so far :
http://monkey.org/~aidan/origami/crane/crane1.html

Although I did spend a while just saying "fold the flap...what flap!...there are dozens of them" but it worked in the end :D.

Dollar folding sounds interesting, but i'm rather unwilling to fold up a £5 note 0_o

I've made cranes. Pretty easy to do. There's a Japanese myth that says if you fold a thousand cranes you'll be granted a wish.

A site about paper cranes and Hiroshima:

Wow, I never knew that...

Also a reminder that war is good for nothing :-(
